Addison was enjoying a quiet evening cuddling with Derek and watching Friends, one of their favorite shows.

"Look at the styles everyone is wearing!" Addison laughed as she watched the show. "I can't believe it ended so long ago." She sat up and stretched.

"But it is still one of the best shows of all time!" Derek exclaimed. He enjoyed the view of Addison's lower back showing as she was stretching. He ran his hand up her spin, causing her to shiver. "Where are you going?" Derek asked as Addison started to stand up.

"I was going to review the TTTS case some more." she answered.

"Addison. You know that case forward and backward. Hell, even I know that case forward and backward with as much as you've told me about it." Derek laughed. "You need to relax tonight." He pulled on her hand until she lay down again. They had become experts at maneuvering around so they both could lay on the bed without causing Derek more pain.

Derek played with Addison's hair as she laid her head on his chest. "I've missed this." Derek sighed. Addison leaned up on her elbow and looked up at him. In the confines of the hospital room, it was easy for both of them to temporarily forget about the last year. With no one else around, they felt like they were in a bubble.

"I've missed this too." she said quietly looking into his eyes. They just looked at each other for a moment. Addison reached up and cupped Derek's cheek with her hand. He pulled her down and gave her a kiss. At first it was a sweet and tender kiss, but soon they were both consumed with desire. The kiss intensified and Derek's hands began to wander up Addison's shirt. Addison gasped as Derek began to massage her breasts. As Addison's hand began to find it's way down Derek's shorts, the door burst open.

"Dr. Shepherd.I need you to ..uh.." Izzie stammered as she caught the couple in an intimate moment. Addison jumped off the bed and looked a little embarrassed while Derek quickly moved blankets around to hide his very obvious enjoyment of making out with his wife..

"How can I help you, Dr. Stevens? Addison asked quickly as she moved away from the bed to draw Izzie away from Derek..

"I'm sorry, Dr. Shepherd. But I just checked the twins and something looks off in the ultrasound." Izzie exclaimed, still flustered. It was very strange for her to see Derek with anybody but Meredith.

"Ok, Dr. Stevens. I will meet you in the room shortly." Addison replied. Derek busted up laughing as soon as Izzie left the room.

"We always were known for forgetting to lock the door." he said, trying not to laugh at the pointed look Addison was giving him. She quickly checked herself in the mirror to make sure no clothes or hair were out of place and then walked back over to Derek.

"I guess I will see you later.." Addison said. Derek pulled her down for a quick kiss and quietly whispered in her ear, "You are a rock star. Go save some lives." Addison smiled down at him. She had heard him say those words to her thousands of times in the past, but it had been almost a year since he had last said it to her.

Addison caught up with Izzie. The intern informed her what she thought she saw on the ultrasound. As soon as they got to the room, Addison confirmed that there was indeed a problem.

"Are my babies ok?" Katie asked confused by all the activity.

"I'm sorry, Katie. But we have detected beginning heart failure in the twins. We have to operate now." Addison said gently. "Go book an OR now!" Addison said firmly to Izzie.

"How long is the surgery going to take?" Kyle asked from the other side of the bed.

"It will be awhile. I will have someone come out and update you periodically." Addison said, addressing Kyle. "I will see you in the OR." she informed Katie.

Addison quickly made it to the attending's lounge to change into scrubs. She sent Derek a text to inform him of the situation. She was also very thankful that her mother-in-law had the kids.

As Addison entered the OR, she felt her stress, worry, and tiredness leave her. The OR had always been a magical place for her. Everything else disappeared.

"Ok, Katie. I will see you in recovery after the surgery." Addison said sweetly to the terrified teen on her table. She wanted to comfort the girl further, but couldn't risk touching her as she had already scrubbed. Soon Katie was out from the anesthesia.

"Let's begin." Addison said as she began the first incision. For the next few hours, Addison worked meticulously. She answered many questions for various residents and Izzie as she went.

"Ok, all done." Addison said as she closed. She stepped out of the way to go over post-op instructions with one of the nurses as Katie was rolled out of the room.

After scrubbing out, Addison made her way to the lobby to talk to the girl's parents. They had been updated of the progress regularly, but Addison knew they would want to talk to her directly.

"Everything went smoothly." Addison informed them as soon as Kyle and Sahara saw her. "The twins are not completely out of the woods yet, but hopefully, there will not be any permanent damage."

"Thank you, Dr. Shepherd." Kyle said with relief. "When can I see her?"

"Katie needs to rest the remainder of the night. It is already past midnight." Addison said, realizing how tired she actually was. "You can see her in the morning."

"I am sorry, but that doesn't work for us. We want to see Katie now." Kyle said sternly. Addison raised an eyebrow at him. She had dealt with difficult family members before, but this man was really getting on her nerves.

"I understand, Mr. Stanford." Addison said in her best Forbes Montgomery voice. "However, Katie isn't a minor. It is the middle of the night, and she needs her rest. And frankly, so does the rest of the staff who worked to save 3 lives tonight." Addison turned around before Kyle could protest further, but the man grabbed her arm.

"I don't know who you think you are lady, but I demand to see Katie." Kyle growled. Addison immediately pushed Kyle's hand off her arm.

"Sir. If you ever touch me again, I will have you banned from this hospital. You will see Katie in the morning." Addison said icily. She backed away without breaking eye contact.

Once Addison was around the corner, she began to shake. The look in Kyle's eyes had scared her. She knew he was going to be trouble. Addison took a deep breath before going to check on Katie.

"Hey, Katie. How are you feeling?" Addison asked sweetly.

"My name isn't Katie." The young girl said as she looked up at Addison. "I think it is Gracie." Addison froze at this.

"What do you mean?" Addison asked, trying to stay calm. She was still shaken up from the encounter with Kyle, and now this girl was telling her she had a different name. What the hell was going on?!

"Gracie Bartholomew." was the only response Addison got. After that, the girl refused to say anything and was soon asleep.

Addison didn't know what to do. By now, it was 2:00 in the morning. Everyone she needed to talk to about this strange situation was asleep. She knew that by 6 or 7, Kyle would be demanding to see Katie or Gracie or whatever the girl's name was, and he wouldn't take no for an answer this time. So, despite being exhausted, Addison knew she only had a few hours to figure out what to do.

"I want to keep Katie in the ICU for several days." Addison informed the nurse. "I will be in my husband's room if you need me." She handed the chart over and left to go to Derek's room.

When Addison left to go deal with the TTTS case emergency, Derek again was left alone with his thoughts. Was it only a few weeks ago that he was showing Meredith his trailer after he basically lived with her for a while? And now he was feeling up his wife. He ran his hand through his hair and sighed. Had it really been around a week since the fall? It felt a lot longer. It gave him whiplash to think about the past few months of his life. Addison and him still had a long road ahead of them, but nearly dying had really straightened out his priorities.

Yes, it still hurt like hell to think about Addison and Mark together. Yes, they still had major communication issues to work on. But Derek knew he was beginning to feel things again for Addison that he hadn't felt in a long time. He also realized that what she did is nothing compared to what he did. He had a full blown affair and lied to everyone at Seattle Grace. How had he fallen so far from the person he was a few years ago? How was anyone at Seattle Grace going to trust him again after learning about his wife and children? Of course, it would be many months before he recovered enough to work again. Would Richard even want him back? Derek continued to mull over everything until he fell asleep.

Addison collapsed into the chair next to Derek's bed. She was thankful he was asleep and for a quiet place to think. As Addison sat there, the name Gracie Bartholomew kept coming to her mind. Why did it sound so familiar? She began to Google the name on her phone. A picture of a little girl came up in the search followed by news stories of her being kidnapped.

"Oh my gosh!" Addison exclaimed by what she saw on her screen. The dates on the news articles were 12 years old. Tears started streaming down her face. She jumped out of her chair, causing it to fall over, and began to pace the room.

"Addison, what is wrong?" Derek asked confused. The commotion had woken him up. By the look on his wife's face, he was sure the surgery hadn't gone well.

"It's her! I can't believe it is her!" Addison muttered over and over while tears streamed down her face. She didn't notice Derek was awake at first.

"Addison!" Derek yelled to get her attention. He then cried out in pain as he tried to move too much.

"Derek!" Addison jumped. "Are you ok?" she ran over to him and could see the signs of pain etched on his face.

"I am fine." he grunted. "What in the hell is going on?" he asked, gesturing towards the chair.

"Katie isn't Katie. She is Gracie." Addison said, beginning to calm down.

"Huh?" Derek asked, still completely confused. Addison backed up and began to tell Derek the whole story,

"What do you mean he grabbed you?'" Derek interrupted when Addison got to the part in the lobby. Addison, who had been pacing the room, walked back over to Derek.

"I am fine, Derek." Addison informed him. Derek took her hand, and she sat down on the bed.

"You may be fine, Addison, but no one lays a hand on my wife." Derek growled. Addison kissed him on the cheek.

"Let me finish, Derek." she said. She proceeded to tell him about what the girl had said and what she had found on her phone. He was shocked.

"Isn't that the girl who was stolen in the store parking lot while the mother was loading her younger sister into the car?" Derek asked, deep in thought.

"It is. I was pregnant with Apollos at the time, and the story was all over the news. It haunted me for weeks." Addison said, again beginning to tear up.

"And you think this Katie girl is actually Gracie?" Derek asked.

"I do. She looks like an older version of this picture." Addison said, showing Derek her phone. "And, something has been off this whole time." Derek was quiet for a minute and just stared at the screen.

"Addison, you need to call the Chief and the police now. This can't wait until the morning." Derek insisted. He kept imagining what it would be like to be the parents of the little girl in the picture.

"Derek. It is almost 3 in the morning. Don't you think i should wait a few hours?" Addison asked.

"No. If that really is Gracie Bartholomew. Those parents have been in limbo for 12 years." Derek responded. Addison knew he was right. She called both the Chief and the police and explained the situation.

"I need to go get some coffee and a quick shower." Addison told Derek as she got off the phone. "We are all going to meet in the Chief's office in an hour."

"I don't want you anywhere near Kyle without a security guard or police officer." Derek demanded.

"Derek…" Addison began.

"Addison. This isn't up for discussion." Derek interrupted. "He kidnapped a small child and assaulted you. I can't be there to protect you myself." he said in frustration.

"Ok, Derek." Addison said, leaning over to kiss Derek. She really didn't think she was in danger, but she also knew Derek was very traditional when it came to it being his job to protect his wife.

Soon Addison was informing both the Chief of Police and the Chief of Surgery of what had occured in the preceding hours. Richard looked at Addison in disbelief.

"Do you know where this Kyle Standford is at the moment?" Chief Gibson asked Addison.

"I'm sorry, Officer. I didn't even think to ask him and his wife where they were staying." Addison answered. Chief Gibson nodded.

"Well, we first need to establish that this is in fact a kidnapping case. I have spoken with the FBI. They officially have jurisdiction over this case since it originally took place in Ohio and has now crossed state lines. They have DNA samples on file for both of Gracie Bartholomew's parents on file. They need a DNA sample of the girl; however, I don't want to traumatize her any further." he said as he began to pace the room.

"I could draw a vile of blood." Addison suggested. "We have taken so many blood samples from the girl, she wouldn't think anything of it."

"Ok. And we have enough to go on to take both Kyle and Sahara in for questioning. Furthermore, we have surveillance video of him grabbing you. That is enough to hold him on assault charges at least for a few days. I will post undercover officers throughout the hospital. I don't want to alert the couple we are onto them, and I don't want to scare other people in the hospital. Do NOT tell anyone else what is going on." Chief Gibson said sternly.

Addison left the two Chiefs to discuss plans further as she left to go draw the blood. She was very thankful Katie or Gracie was sleeping. Addison checked the vitals of both mother and babies before she set up to retrieve the blood.

"Hey. I just need to get a little blood." Addison said slowly as the girl began to stir. "I also would like to do an ultrasound on the twins if you are up for it." The girl gave a small nod but didn't say anything.

Addison was pleased to see the twins were recovering from the surgery well. After she got the vile of blood, she immediately took it back to Chief Gibson.

"Thank you, Dr. Shepherd." the officer said. "It will take a few days to get this processed. In the meantime, Dr. Webber and I agree that we need to get a therapist trained in this kind of trauma to talk to this girl. We need to see if we can get her to open up and trust some one."

"Addison, thank you for all the work you have done on this case and for calling us immediately." Richard said to his friend. "Now, go get some sleep." he continued as Addison fought off a yawn. Addison said goodbye to both men, and then left the room.

Before getting some sleep, she made her way back to Derek's room. Addison wasn't surprised to see him wide awake.

"Hey" Addison said, giving Derek a small smile as she walked over to the bed. She told him everything that had transpired.

"I agree with the Chief, Addie." Derek said, taking her hand. "You need to go home and get some sleep."

"Derek. I can't leave. I need to be close by incase something happens with this case. Also, the kids will be here before too long." Addison exclaimed. She realized it was almost 6.

"Addison. If you are going to insist on staying in the hospital, at least go sleep in my office. The couch is really comfortable, and no one should bother you in there unless absolutely necessary. My mom will take care of the kids today. She is leaving soon, so she will definitely enjoy the extra time with them." Derek added as he could see the wheels in Addison's head spinning.

"Ok." Addison finally said. She knew it was a good suggestion. She gave Derek a kiss and a hug before going to his office and collapsing on the couch in exhaustion.
