Here's chapter two of my Danganronpa fanfic 'We Will Live For Them'. I'm on a roll with this, but sooner or later I'll be struck by the dreaded writers block for this story too😂ðŸ˜.
Now this chapter is after they've arrived at the Future Foundation Headquarters and Kokichi's getting his injury looked at. Kyoko decides to tell the three waiting on Kokichi a little information on the Killing Games, but obviously she's not teling them everything.
Also, I mentioned this last chapter but I'll do it again anyway, since I haven't finished the game anything I write in this fic that doesn't match up with the last two chapters I could care less about. I don't want spoilers as I haven't yet finished the game and want to experience it for myself. This is an alternate universe where Kokichi lives hense why there would be differences between the game's last two trials and this fanfic.
I just wanted to make something clear because I have a feeling I'll probably be asked this in the future. I don't know about there being couples in this yet. I've never been into shipping characters a lot, so I usually like focusing on friendships and the story more. If I do any it'll be the ones I like, but that won't happen until WAY later. I'll give some examples; Naegiri, Oumeno and Saimaki would probably be the main ones. As I said they won't be the focus, but I feel like Makoto and Kyoko might already have a thing going on right now while the other two pairings the characters have to get over the deaths from their Game, forgive one another and learn to get along. The DR1 characters have pretty much done this while DRV3 I have said I haven't yet finished and with Kokichi mixed in it'll create more tension amongst the survivors, especially between Kokichi and Maki.
Also this chapter contains a few F-bombs from our favourite purple gremlin. I don't use them that often usually only minor swears, but Kokichi kinda has a little freakout and gets angry. I'm trying to develope his character so that we see him show his true personality instead of hiding behind a mask and I see him as the type of person to swear when he gets angry, but usually doesn't swear. He just did it for his mask/cover thing. I also like to think he's genuinely a nice person, but had to lie because of the situation he was in and I can definitely see the deaths of Gonta, Miu and Kaito eat up at Kokichi's conscious.
Anyways, hope you enjoy!
Chapter II: Thoughts And Feelings
Future Foundation Headquarters - Main Building - 11:50am
All four teenagers were taken into the back of a van, exhaustion catching up with all of them from the final trial while Kokichi it was because of his injury. They didn't wake up until they arrived at a tall, grey building that looked as if it reached into the clouds in the sky; intimidating the four.
Kokichi was immediately taken away to a medical bay while the other three were sat in the dining room to wait for him.
They didn't know how long it'd take for them to be done with the short boy.
He had been injured in the academy's collapse while they were completely fine.
However they had thought he had been dead.
Once he comes back out they hope that he at least tells them what happened between him and Kaito.
It made them feel terrible that Kaito got wrongfully executed without killing anyone...
How could they make a mistake like that?
'I should've checked the Exisals...' Shuichi thought to himself as he looked in the direction of where the little leader had been taken and swallowed. "Do you think he'll be okay?"
The assassin just let out a scoff, folding her arms across her chest. "Of course he will. He obviously doesn't know how to die."
Shuichi let out a small sigh at hearing this from Maki; it will probably take her a while to forgive Kokichi about anything he did.
The magician stared down at the table with saddened eyes. "Did nobody see how bad his leg looked? It looked really bad..."
The detective nodded his head at what Himiko said, biting his bottom lip. "Y...Yea, I did. No wonder he was struggling to walk. His leg was completely crushed. It might not ever heal from that much damage."
There was a sudden silence amongst the three at the realisation of this.
That Kokichi may not even be able to walk again after this.
Or that they will have to amputate his leg and give him a replacement instead.
After seeing Kiibo; prosthetics had to be a thing or pretty advanced at least.
Right?
There was the sound of heels clicking on the floor, approaching them, looking up they saw that it was Kyoko; who they now knew as Kokichi's older sister. "As one of my colleagues told you; due to what you experienced you will be staying here with us for a while and we will be monitoring your behaviour," she began to explain to them. "Afterwards you can either choose to leave or join us to help other victims of other Killing Games."
Shuichi shifted, uncomfortably and raised a hand as if he was in a classroom, learning something new. "There's still Killing Games going on?"
Kyoko nodded her head. "Yes. The Mastermind of the one I was in was the original Mastermind. She started everything. Your Mastermind was just a copycat."
Shuichi blinked.
That hadn't been what they had been told.
Tsumugi had called herself the original Mastermind.
Maybe she saw herself as that because she was the Ulimate Cosplayer and was really into the role.
He didn't know.
He couldn't ask her that now.
A frown creased Maki's face as she glared at Kyoko. "So, what you're saying is that the people who are still putting Killing Games on are just imitators of the original from your Game?"
Kyoko nodded her head at the question.
"Nyeh?! But why would anyone want to imitate someone like that!?" Himiko exclaimed, pulling her hat down and clutching it, tightly.
The former detective just shook her head. "I do not understand their motives for it either. We have yet to find a Killing Game still going on and ask an imitator Mastermind before their demise of why they're doing this."
There was silence in the room at this point.
Shuichi turned to look at the girls sitting beside him as they also shared a look with him.
It was then that they realised it wasn't as easy as leaving and being done with the Killing Game as they thought.
This woman and her coworkers had been in a killing game like them and took it upon themselves to find and help other children trapped in the same situation they were once in.
They didn't need to do this, but they wanted to help put a stop to these killing games.
It tugged at a spot in Shuichi's chest and he winced.
It made him realise that this was something that Kaede would most likely do if she was with them.
She'd want to help others trapped if there were more killing games.
It was just who she was...
She only wanted to help...
Help get everyone out safely...
Kyoko took this time to observe them, a soft smile on her face as she turned her head down the hallway towards where the Medbay was located. She then turned back to them and took a deep breath. "I'll take you to your rooms in the observation ward soon."
The assassin narrowed her eyes at hearing this. "Observation ward? So, we'll be watched?"
The detective next to her sighed. "She did mention we'll be monitored until we leave..."
"As long as they don't have cameras in the bathrooms..." Himiko muttered out.
Kyoko shook head at that statement. "No. The observation is only really when your outside your rooms and interacting with other survivors from your Game along with Future Foundation members. However there will be times we'll need to access the cameras in yours rooms, but that's very rare cases."
The detective and magician nod while the assassin kept a continuous glare on the former detective.
It seemed as if that was all she was going to say.
They really couldn't take anymore today...
Some rest would be lovely...
To just forget about the Killing Game and about today's events too...
It was finally over...
"WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE!?" A scream tore through the building, reaching them and causing them to turn to the hallway. "DID I SAY I WANTED MY FUCKING LEG CUT OFF! FUCK ALL OF YOU!"
A loud crash resonated from down the hall, indicsting something was thrown either on the floor or against the wall.
The screaming and cursing out the workers at the med bay continued, but the three teenagers and adult tried to ignore it.
They had caught a good chunk of it and it wasn't good.
They had never heard Kokichi sound so pissed off before.
The only time he sounded angry was when he had been yelling at Gonta during Miu's trial, but even then that was mild compared to this.
Kokichi sounded absolutely livid.
The detective noticed how Kyoko seemed to freeze up at Kokichi's screaming, gripping her arms tighter.
She stood stock still.
Tense.
Before slowly relaxing as she tried to ignore the yelling of her brother.
Did she do something?
She would technically have legal custody over Kokichi being his older sister, so if she saw it fit she could've told the staff at the med bay to amputate it.
The boy shook his head, wiping these thoughts out of his mind.
Yes, she could do that but it would take a lot of convincing for someone to do that to a family member, right?
Shuichi decided to get his mind off of Kyoko and turned his head back to his two friends, shaking slightly with wide eyes. "Was I hearing wrong or did I hear Kokichi scream that they had amputated his leg?"
Both girls shook their heads; Himiko's eyes just as wide as Shuichi's while Maki's was mildly surprised only blinking slightly.
"No, you heard right..."
Shuichi whirled back around to face Kyoko; who had her head turned to the hallway and seemed to be listening to the angry screaming of her brother. "I told them to do it."
"W...What? Why?" Himiko stuttered out, staring wide-eyed at the woman before her.
"I have legal custody over Kokichi, so they wouldn't go ahead with the surgery until I gave the say so." She turned her head back to face them; regret clear as day written in her violet orbs, but her expression hid it well. "His leg was crushed. It wouldn't have been able to heal from that or even be saved at that point. It needed to go. We have the technology for him to get a prosthetic, but during that time he'll be stuck in a wheelchair." She narrowed her eyes at them. "I did it for his own good. I know he may never forgive me, but it's what I had to do."
Shuichi, Maki and Himiko exchanged a look with each other; surprised.
They didn't think Kyoko was this kind of person.
That she cared this deeply for Kokichi.
She obviously showed signs of being upset that he wasn't with them when they had arrived and went off on her own; she probably wanted to look around on her own.
She was a former detective after all, so she would have had good intuition on where to go and look.
She must've had some kind of emotional moment with Kokichi when she found him, because when they got back her stoic mask was on - the same with Kokichi's playful one.
Funny, siblings that wear a mask to hide their emotions.
At some point they will break.
Kokichi almost did during the Killing Game.
But will Kyoko?
Future Foundation Headquarters - Medical Bay - 2:00pm
After the main surgery was finished the doctors kept Kokichi in the med bay for rest, so that his stump could properly heal before they decided to attachmetal plates for the prosthesis. The purple-haired boy lay on his cot, staring up at the ceiling with a deep scowl on his face.
The doctors had told him they wouldn't have been able to do the surgery due to him being underage and needed a guardian's approval.
So that meant his sister was the one that gave the approval.
But why?
He would've been fine if they'd left the leg.
He'd have a hell of limp, but he's still be fine.
The teen sat up, letting a sigh leave his lips, running a hand over his left leg, feeling where his leg began and then ended.
It was an odd feeling.
Something he wasn't used to.
He would have to, but it was thanks to the Killing Game he was now missing a leg.
It was thanks to Kaito he wasn't crushed under a hydraulic press.
He should count himself lucky he was still alive.
So then, why did he feel so angry.
Angry at everything.
The Mastermind.
Maki.
Shuichi.
Kaito.
The Killing Game.
Kyoko.
And most of all; himself.
He couldn't save everyone.
He was knocked out for the last two trials and missed out on what happened during it.
Yes, four of them were alive, but it still hurt.
Especially when three deaths ... were his fault...
"Why did you let me live, Kaito?" The boy lowered his head as he grit his teeth together. "You bastard..."
How was he meant to live with the guilt of both Gonta and Miu's blood on his hands?
His plan ... was pathetic...
It was his way of getting away from his guilty conscious...
The fact that he led two people to their deaths and now ... there's a third added to the list...
And now he can't ever get away from it...
"I'm such a coward..."
A pinging sound caught his attention, turning his head he noticed his sister and his three classmates; frowning he sat back and turned his head away.
"How are you feeling?" Kyoko asked as she approached her brother's bedside.
He tsked, keeping his head turned away from her. "Like I just got my fucking leg chopped off."
Kyoko narrowed her eyes at Kokichi's vocabulary.
She had heard him before when he had been screaming, but had thought it was because he was panicked, but now ... it didn't sound right.
The last time she saw him he was just starting elementary school and she was in middle school.
Now he was at the age to graduate high school and she was an adult.
This certainly wasn't the same boy she knew back then.
He had grown up and she never got to see him do it.
She was just ... too busy...
"Why?" He turned his head towards her with angry violet eyes yet his expression was that blank mask that the rest of the survivors had only seen a few times. "Why did you do that?" His tone of voice was sad, but on the inside he was raging, trying to contain himself from lashing out at his sister.
A sigh left his sister's lips as she shook her head. "I had to do it, Kokichi."
A short and simple response was all he was given.
It seemed to make the fire festering under his skin boil further.
"I didn't ask for your permission, Kyoko," Kokichi growled out; eyes narrowing at his sister.
Another sigh left Kirigiri's lips. "I know you didn't, but I'm currently responsible for you. Your leg was crushed. If it healed it wouldn't heal properly and you would either have a limp or need a crutch to walk. It was better this way."
Kokichi's face seemed to twist from his usual mask to one of rage.
As if all his emotions were coming out in one after what she said.
As if she had triggered something in him
"Don't you dare talk to me about what's best in my life when you've never been in it." His voice was quiet. Almost like a silent tremble before an oncoming storm. "YOU OR THE OLD MAN! AS SOON AS HE VANISHED YOU FUCKED OFF TOO! SO, TELL ME WHY IT'S BETTER THIS WAY! WHY YOU GET A SAY IN MY LIFE WHEN YOU; MY SISTER, WERE HARDLY IN IT!" He finished yelling, breathing hard and voice hoarse from shouting.
Kyoko stared at her brother with wide eyes, mouth slightly agape.
The three standing near the door also stared, surprised and silent; having never heard Kokichi scream so much a part from in a trial only this time it was a personal reason.
Kokichi's chest rose up and down, glaring defiantly at his sister before she gave him a small smile and bent forward, wrapping her arms around him and hugging him causing Kokichi to freeze.
"I know. I was never really there for you. I wasn't the sister I was supposed to be. I left to search for someone who was never coming back and left someone else behind that needed me. I'm sorry, 'Kichi. I'm so sorry," Kyoko spoke genuinely to her brother.
The movement made Kokichi stiffen, but the speech caused him to tense.
After her words left her mouth he swallowed and then, shakily wrapped his own arms around her, hiding his head in her shoulder, "I know, Kyo-nee. I was just upset. I...I took my anger out on you and I'm sorry for that."
A small smile spread across Kokichi's face as his sister's hand lifted to his head and ran her fingers through his messy, violet locks that always stick up.
They stayed like that for a few minutes; the two siblings embracing each other after many years a part.
Both of them going through a killing game.
Both nearly dying multiple times in said game, but made it out.
Thanks to the people they trust and their sharp wit.
Kyoko let go of her brother and turned her head to the three over by the door with a smile that didn't entirely reach her eyes. "You three wanted to ask Kokichi some questions, correct?"
The three nodded, still dumbstruck by the overly emotional reaction that Kokichi just had moments ago.
They had never seen such a genuine reaction from the liar before.
It was always fake tears or smiles.
Now it was obvious that was just a show; a mask to hide behind and hide away his true feelings.
Kokichi looked past his sister and groaned. "You guys were there the whole time?"
Shuichi rubbed behind his head, nodding. "Umm ... yea, we were..."
The liar rubbed his hands over his face and muttered another curse under his breath. "Someone kill me..."
Maki stepped forward with a glare, aiming it at Kokichi. "That can be arranged."
He turned to face her and held her glare with his own tired one.
A tension had replaced the melancholic feeling in the room.
A very heavy tension between a supreme leader and assassin.
The detective shifted nervously while the magician watched, warily, as Kyoko kept a close eye on the assassin in case she took any unnecessary actions towards her brother.
They didn't need any unnecessary bloodshed to happen right after four survivors were brought back from a killing game.
That would just spell trouble, especially with the higher-ups.
"You still don't like me, do you, Maki?" Her eye seemed to twitch at him calling her by her first name. "But you hate me even more now because I'm the one alive and Kaito isn't, right?"
Her hands clenched at her sides.
Violet on blood red.
He could tell that it was taking everything in her not to attack him, especially with his sister right there; whose been nothing but kind to them since arriving.
However she couldn't tell if he was mocking her or was actually genuine about it.
He didn't have the usual joking lilt he always uses when he talks smack, but that didn't mean she would fall for it if it was.
Who was she to take this woman's brother from her after they had just been reunited after years of separation.
Well, she shouldn't care after being an assassin for so long.
And after all he's done; the misleading lies in trials, causing Gonta and Miu's death, posing as the Mastermind and finally causing Kaito's death.
Why should she care what happens to the little bastard?
One reason - Kyoko...
She's been nothing but kind to them since they arrived and even though it was the company she worked for doing it ... she was the one mainly with them and explaining everything to them.
Because she wanted to be with Kokichi...
She wanted to spend time with the brother she never got to...
So, then why did she feel so against hurting Kyoko?
Was it because Kyoko reminded Maki of herself back at the orphanage?
She couldn't tell anymore.
"I'll tell you this," Kokichi started as his eyes darted from each survivor and then finally landing back on Maki; who seemed a bit surprised he was going to actually talk. "It's Kaito's fault that I'm alive right now."
