I have no structure to these stories and no i didnt check thr grammar just fyi
Tonight was the night. Melody gathered her belongings to stay the night over at Margaret but was nervous for the show. How would people be like there? Would she recognize anybody? It made her head swim but melody had to act fast on what she was going to wear under her disguise of pajamas. Rummaging through her closet she didnt realize until now on how much clothes Ofdenson actually got her. Pushing hanging clothes side to side became an exercise until she found what she needed: a demin jacket, a cotton black button up skirt, and a plain white t-shirt. Putting everything on, she collected her bag and made it down to the foyer where her older cousin Ofdenson was to meet her, making sure the ring was on her finger.
"I uh, hope you know this is for your own good. Please be safe tonight and-"
"And if anything were to happen to call you. I know, I know!" Melody finished with a small laugh. She wondered for a split second how far would Ofdenson go to protect her? Not that she was too interested in the details.
Ofdenson blinked back and continued in an unsure tone as Melody walked towards the black car waiting, "Aaaalright well take care!" He had to find better ways to try and communicate with his only family. Otherwise, she'd become like the band and get ahead of themselves.
"Margie, these eyelashes you gave me are poking the inner corner of my eye. Is that normal?"
"It's because you keep touching them. They'll come off if you keep doing that. Stop touching your eyes!"
Athena snickered, helping her friend keep still and reapplying the glue on the lashline. "I think its because of the glitter you put on her lids."
Margaret rolled her eyes adjusting her black leather belt, "Whatever it's just for tonight. And for many other nights to come, you'll get used to having makeup on."
Looking in the tall mirror against a wall, Melody took one final look at her glitter cut crease her friends tiredlessly worked on. "I'm sorry, I guess I'm also nervous about how I look-"
"Sandia!" Margaret yelled, "Can you please help me calm down Miss anxiety over here?"
Sitting on a beanbag chair across the room sat a skinny tall woman, dressed in tights and a tight charmuse mini dress which blue color contrasted her dark skin. Batting her eyes from the screen of her phone and towards Melody her almond eyes looked her up and down.
"She looks set, but what are you gonna do about her hair?" Sandia answered, "Also, we gonna be late, ya'll better step on it otherwise im gonna miss Mi Vato playing the 2nd set."
"Well," Margaret sang, "Athena here was gonna do it buuuut?"
The red-head snapped quickly, "I was going to curl her hair but I forgot to turn on the iron okay! I think she looks fine, I'm sure nobody is gonna really care!"
Melody stroked a few strands of her light brown hair and took a moment to think when the thought hit her, "Hey Margaret? do you remember when for that one halloween I went as Blondie? The platinumn one you and your cousin helped teased up?"
Margaret eyes widened with recollection and excitement, "Oh my god I think I do! That could totally work! Let me go find it I think its in my closet shelf!" Running off and diving into the shelves, it gave Athena the time to talk to Melody about something that was on her mind for the longest.
"Hey Mellow?" she said
"Oh wow, I haven't heard "Mellow" in a while. Haha, whats up?" Melody answered.
"I'm...sorry we couldn't help you. You know my family would've took you in...it's just-"
"Dont apologize anymore 'theia," Melody voiced turned soft as she hugged her friend, "It was all Vincent and you know that please don't feel guilty."
"I know I shouldn't, but, where ever Vincent is now I hope he suffers for all that he has put you through."
Melody wished for the same. Vincent had been the one to plague her life on purpose over and over again. So long ago she could've legally lived with Athena and her family, but he went out of his way so much to make sure that would never happen. Melody stopped questioning why, and accepted people like Vincent have no reason, that they are just plain evil.
"Foooound it! Okay c'mere Mel lemme see your head!" Margaret grinned.
The venue was through a narrow black gate into a dark alley, on the left side of the building was the open door inside where people of all piercings, tattoos and hair styles were. Looking around the minimalist warehouse of white walls held in a crowd waiting to hear the next artist/band come up and perform. During this intermission Margaret walked towards a couch saying hi's and hello's person to person. It seemed like Margaret knew everybody there, everybody with names like "Hey Mel, this is Christina, Tabitha, Peter, Robert, Leslie..." the list went on as Melody kept introducing herself. The compliments she got on her wig made it sound like people were convinced it was her real hair. She stopped correcting them after the 20th person and the 3rd drink Margaret handed to her in a red solo cup. Looking around the place had blue lights flickering every so often with the beat of a instrumental playlist, and seeing her friends be in this element and having fun in this place with all kinds of people made her... sad.
Sad she couldn't grow with them. Sad she had to be on her own and not know the band's or the people they talked to or the things they were talking about. But she kept this sadness to herself and focused on smiling more, drinking more, trying to have a good time pushing these thoughts to the side. As time past the next band was going up in 10 minutes Margaret took this opportunity - on her own accord- to make sure Melody would have a good time.
"Hey Mel, come outside to the patio with Athena and I." Holding her hand Margaret trailed her drunken friend outside to the back where an enclosed patio had a single table with a dab rig set out and people sitting on folding chairs in a corner. Confused, Melody went along and saw Margaret inhale and cough out of the glass rig. Looking over to Athena, Melody gave her a worried look, acknowledging this Athena gave her a soft smile "It's ok dude, we've done it many times before just take a small hit and you'll be good."
Seeing as it was her turn Melody did as she was told to: just inhale. After coughing up her lungs and getting teary eyed her and her friends rushed back inside as the next artist was being announced up. It was crowded more than usually as everyone from hanging out outside went and crammed inside.
"Hey Margaret do you know whose up right now?" Margaret looked over to her friend in a haze as the three girls were in the middle of the crowd waiting.
"His name is Sonny. Just shhhh" Margaret slurred putting a finger to her friends lips giggling, "He's good. You'll like him." The crowd roared with applaused as the frontman came out.
"Alright alright everybody here's 'No Coming Back'!" And with a low strum of his guitar Melody saw just who Sonny was.
Wearing dirty black jeans, a rolled up short sleeved rolled up dark blue and red stripped shirt, Sonny stood tall with a grey trucker hat tucking in a mess of short loose waves of light brown hair. But his face is where Melody's eyes fluttered: Grey eyes that looked slightly tired, a slender pronounced nose helped shaped an angular face and defined lips. Even in a haze, his drowsy but dreamy voice sang her into a tunnel vision focusing on him. As the song went on the intensity of the music played higher which matched Melody's sudden relaization.
She was deeply attracted to him
After eight songs, Sonny and his two other bandmates said their goodnights a sweat to an uproarous crowd and went to retire backstage. Margaret and Athena noticed their friend staring at Sonny the whole time and both gave each other a smirk.
"Hey Margie," Athena laughed, "You think we can get her back stage to meet him? We haven't seen him in a while either they might get along.
"Ha!" Margaret laughed, "Yeah we can get back there, it's pretty crazy that after a year break from his band and shows, Melody happens to come along. I knew she would be into dirty looking indie boys. I'll be right back." Shuffling through the crowd Margaret took a peak backstage and then signaled Athena to follow.
"Hey starshine!" Athena waved in front of Melody face whose high was reaching its peak, "Come on let's go backstage!" She grinned.
Everything felt fuzzy and parts of Melody were feeling tingly and numb. She wondered why people smoked weed in the first place if this is all they feel. To her, it felt like a terrible, out of control, and mild discomfort. Yet, she didn't know if it was the environment that affected her high or her mindset that made her feel her high less enjoyable.
And to add onto this, she was about to meet the first boy ever to make her knees weak.
"Holy shit this is an ordeal now." She thought to herself.
Making their way to the door backstage, Athena pushed Melody in first with a slight scooch and a giggle.
"It's funny how alcohol feels after a while"
"What do you mean?" Sonny replied after downing another can of beer. Both were sitting on the couch watching Margaret singing a part into a recorder while the guitarist strummed a tune song with her.
"Like you don't even notice the harshness after a few drinks. It's pretty cool haha." Melody said rubbing her hands on her lap.
"I bet being crossfaded you don't even notice how drunk you are either. Feeling hot and dizzy can get to you." Sonny replied handing her a watter bottle.
"Yeah" She shrugged, "My high is coming down."
Sonny glanced towards the backdoor and smiled, "You wanna come outside with me and smoke? There's a nice view."
Sitting up from slouching into the couch Melody got wnough courage to say yes.
"And that's how my birthday parties went!"
"You're kidding! That's crazy!"
Laying on the roof of a broken down car both laughed in the late night sky as they reminisced about their childhoods.
"So how were your birthdays?" She asked Sonny.
"Eh, didn't celebrate them never had 5 Tinker Bell themed birthday parties in a row." He teased as he took another drag from a blunt.
"Things weren't the same after my mom and I got kicked out. Everyday went by like everyday. Not even holidays. Took a while to find the right people in my life that should stay. Leaned some hard lessons. It's good your friends stuck around for as long as they did. You're lucky."
Passing the blunt to Melody, he started going through his phone. Her high felt no longer scary, whatever Sonny gave to her made her feel more comfortable.
"Hey what kind of music do you like?" He asked.
She thought about it.
"Well I listen to anything really but I love timeless oldies they remind me of my mom." She said in a short sigh.
"Most of the time people don't dig it." She finished.
Sonny smiled.
"It's cool, I honestly never listened to any oldies got any suggestions?"
Melody heart skipped a beat and thought fast.
"Uhhh search up..."
She thought about it for a minute and remembered the last song she listened to.
Sonny searched it in his phone and began to play as with the sound of harmonizing voices blended in the lonely air around the two. Melody smiled, sitting up eyes locked in the sky, she felt if looked over to Sonny she would fall deeper in than the stars. He put his arms under his head as both star-gazers spaced out.
Everything else that happened that night didn't matter to Melody afterwards they swapped numbers, and went their seperate ways. Melody wanted to keep what happened to herself, and went to lay fown and fall asleep as soon as she was in Margaret's room.
In a faded conciousness Melody saw herself going though a warm breezy garden following Athena, she grabbed her by the hands and started waking through a maze hedge with her friend. As they ended up in the middle of the labyrinth Athena was kneeling down with longer hair reaching padt her knees as a pair of hands placed a crown on her head.
Waking up shaking she was back in Margaret's room. Sandia had long went home as both Athena and Margaret were fast asleep. The thing Melody immeditely thought of how the dream reminded her of her mothers face.
