Preparations

Phoenix – Ready Room

Maxwell was sitting behind his desk, happy with the update that he had just received from Picard. He was looking forward to seeing the look on Martinez's face when he told him the news.

"Open a channel to the E.A.S. Pollux."

Maxwell saw the anxious look on Martinez's face. It was apparent that he was not confident that Picard would authorize Starfleet support to save Proxima III. "Captain Martinez, Admiral Picard has agreed to my request. We'll get underway within the hour."

"Thank you, Captain." Martinez was relieved but fought to maintain his professionalism on the bridge of his ship. "Captain, I would like permission for Commander O'Dell and me to join you. We need to see this through."

Maxwell wasn't particularly surprised. He made the same promise to them before he met with Picard. "Permission granted. Also, assemble a couple of security teams as well, if possible. We may need them. Contact me when you are ready for transport. Maxwell out."

Babylon 5 – Sheridan's Quarters

Sheridan had just returned to his quarters, having just met with Garibaldi and his security teams. Sheridan, Garibaldi, and the security teams would be transported to the Phoenix in less than 30 minutes, giving them just enough time to collect their gear and brief their replacements.

Unlike the last time, Sheridan was looking forward to speaking with his father.

"Hi, John. Were you able to get help?"

Sheridan noticed that his father looked stressed. His father was a career diplomat and had become an expert in controlling his body language. However, Sheridan could always read his father and now was no exception. "Yeah. We'll be there in less than five days. Do you have the names and locations for Clark and his people?"

Relieved, David Sheridan answered. "Yes. I'm transmitting now. Have you figured out a way to get here without fighting? I don't know how large the fleet is guarding Earth, but there have been rumors of a buildup. You'll need to be careful."

"Don't worry. Earthforce won't see us coming," Sheridan answered without concern.

"Son now is not the time for arrogance. There are far too many lives at stake."

"It's not arrogance, Dad. Trust me. They won't see us coming."

"You'll have to explain to me how you can pull that off."

"I will. In the meantime, I'll need you to contact your supporters to make sure that they're ready to assume control of the government once Clark has been arrested."

"Will do."

"I will meet you at your place in four-to-five days."

David Sheridan wondered what had gotten into his son. It was unlike him to be so reckless. "John, I would strongly advise against that. Your shuttle will probably be shot down before you even enter the atmosphere."

"Don't worry, Dad. I won't be taking a shuttle. I'll explain when we arrive. I'll see you soon."

"Ok, John. Stay safe."

"You too."
