I really didn't like the previous A Certain Magical Index story I first created, so I decided to do an epic crossover that had been on my mind for awhile now. Touma is a descendant of Tanjiro, and a badass demon slayer, enjoy!
The world is changing." A tall, elderly man states. Sitting outside on the porch, watching the green leaves sway against the wind.
Sitting next to him was a young boy with ruffled, black hair with burgundy tips and dark red eyes. And sitting next to him, fast asleep, was a girl the same age as him with long black hair. Her head resting on his shoulder, face peaceful as she slumbered away.
"What does that mean, grandpa?" The boy innocently asked.
The response he got was a hand placed on his head, "For every era that ends, another begins. Humans continue to grow and evolve beyond what they ever could have imagined."
Still looking confused, the small boy asked the elderly man a question, "Hey, grandpa?"
"What is it?"
"Are we evolving, too?"
Though the man's eyes were shadowed, his mouth was visible and smiled, "Yes, me, your siblings, parents, even you—all of us have inherited the will of our ancestors. However, unlike the rest of your siblings, you alone carry a heavy burden that could change the world once more."
The small child said nothing. He was thinking carefully about the burden he now carries. Even though he doesn't fully understand right now—he may in the near future.
"Hey, grandpa…"
"Mm?"
Small eyes look into the elderly man's. There was a glint in them, "Can…can I be a strong person like you?"
Such an innocent question coming from a pure soul, so then why must this child bear such a burden when his life hasn't even started yet? Such a cruel fate to befall someone so young, and yet…
…there's a fire in his eyes that burns brightly.
"Strength comes from within," He answered, "In order to become strong, one must have the will to protect the ones they hold dear."
A strong gust of wind was felt in comparison to the gentle breeze from before, "Become strong if that is your goal, never let your power corrupt your very soul and make you a deviant—
—remember these words."
"Time to wake up, nii-sama."
With a groan, the male occupant arouses from his deep slumber. Dark red eyes lock onto gentle, pink-lilac colored ones. Sitting up from the bed, he rubs the sleepiness out of his eyes. This young man was Kamado Tōma—second eldest son of the Kamado House. There are many in the family that compare his facial features with that of his ancestor—Kamado Tanjirō. What with the same ruffled, black hair with burgundy tips, one can see why.
"Did you have a pleasant dream, nii-sama?" The same person asked.
Tōma takes a good look at his sister. She's a young girl with large, gentle eyes of a pink-lilac color that are framed by thick eyelashes. She has thin, long black hair, worn tied into a ponytail on the left side of her head. The ponytail was fastened by a butterfly ornament that was green and purple.
This girl was his younger sister—Kamado Tsubaki.
Funny enough, she also greatly resembles the woman who married their ancestor—Tsuyuri Kanao. Her personality…well…best leave that up to imagination.
"I don't know if it was a good dream or not…" He replied, come to think of it…what was he dreaming about again? It felt nostalgic for some reason, "What time is it?"
"Almost ten. I woke you up because breakfast is ready, and letting it go cold would be bad." Tsubaki emphasized, in other words telling her brother to get up and eat.
Tōma got the message and proceeded to wash up and get dressed for the day. These two siblings do not live in the outside world. Due to receiving a "supposed scholarship" by the Chairman of the Board of Directors himself, they were given special privileges and sent to Academy City.
Fresh graduates from their primary school, it was originally decided that Tōma would be the one living here in Academy City. However, his younger sister, Tsubaki made it very clear that she was going with him.
No one argued with her.
Before their parents could even start to get the paperwork filled out, they received a letter. It came from Academy City, and written by the Chairman of the Board of Directors.
They didn't think much of it when the letter came at first, but then they started reading what was written in the letter.
A scholarship would be given to both Tōma and Tsubaki, but it was no ordinary one. The two would be given special privileges and accommodations to suit their needs.
At the time Tōma didn't understand why the Chairman would go out of his way to set up a scholarship for them out of nowhere.
It was only after arriving here in Academy City that he understood why.
Academy City truly was a different place. A sovereign city-state that was technologically advanced. The person who holds the absolute power over the city is the Chairman of the Board. While the two have never met the man in person, they can probably guess just what kind of person he is, based on what goes on in the city.
He could go into detail about everything, but there was only one important fact that should be known.
Espers live in this city.
That's right—Espers do in fact exist.
Out of the 2.3 million students living here—80% of them have supernatural powers. Though that number isn't entirely accurate, it was close enough. What's strange is that some of the adults here have no powers at all. That's another strange and suspicious thing to note about.
It was still surprising to him that espers really exist, or maybe it wasn't surprising at all. He and his sister aren't espers at all and are just "normal humans," but that doesn't make them any less dangerous.
"Have you finished getting ready for the day, nii-sama?" Tsubaki asked, already sitting at the table in the kitchen.
"Yeah, thanks for waking me up by the way." Tōma replied, sitting in front of her.
Tsubaki smiled, "There's no need to thank me for something I enjoy doing." She takes a bite out of the toast she made.
He takes a sip of his orange juice before eating some rice. The two siblings live in District 7. Most of the area is made up of middle and high schools that have their own dormitories, boarding houses, and hospitals.
Before it was just the two of them living together, they were to live with one of the residents who acted as their guardian. She was a kind person who…well let's just say her appearance and personality would make anyone believe she was a child and not an adult woman.
But she took them in without complaint and treated them like family.
When the two graduated middle school they received another letter from the Chairman of the Board. A new living environment had already been chosen and they were to begin moving in immediately.
Getting special treatment from the Chairman of Academy City was not only suspicious, but creepy. Why was the Chairman showing them so much attention and giving them special treatment one might ask?
Well, it'll be revealed soon enough.
The Chairman placed them in a luxury penthouse apartment—and even he had to admit that it had a good view of the city.
"Gochisōsamadeshita." Tōma said, finishing his meal. He proceeded to wash the dishes before nearly putting them away, "Are you going to check up on the flowers and butterflies before we go?"
"Of course." Tsubaki replied, going to take care of her own personal greenery before leaving.
His sister has a fondness for both flowers and butterflies. She likes to grow her own flowers and breed special butterflies. She's always liked them, ever since they were kids.
As for him?
His hobby was kendō.
The person who first introduced him to it was his grandfather. Come to think of it, he learned many things from his grandfather that still stick with him.
How strange that he was thinking about the man all of a sudden.
"Nii-san, what's wrong?" Tsubaki came back down from the roof, giving him a worried expression.
"Nothing. Just thinking about our Ojīchan." He replied.
"I see, I've been thinking about him a lot more lately myself." Tsubaki admitted.
So it was both of them, huh?
"Time to go, don't forget to grab our equipment." He reminded her.
She gives him an eerie smile, "I'd never forget." She said in a low tone.
He gives her a smile of his own, "Right…"
Just another day for the Kamado siblings.
Date: June 17,
Current Location: A Certain High School
A Certain High School is by all standards—what one would call a normal high school. Most of the students that attend here are Level 0's (with the exception of a certain spiky haired blonde).
Of course there are some faculty from other schools that have nothing positive to say about them, but it's not like their words really mattered to them in the first place.
Once they stepped inside the school someone familiar greeted them, "Ah, there's my favorite brother and sister pairing! Have you two finally done the naughty yet~?"
Rolling his eyes, Tōma gives the person a dry expression, "I don't care if you say something like that to Tsuchimikado, but leave me and my sister out your mouth, Aogami."
Aogami appeared, smiling at them. The boy had short, blue hair and his eyes were always closed. Another distinct feature are the two earrings on each ear. He also a self-proclaimed, "Fetsh King" while also being a self-admitted pervert, lolicon, stalker, and masochist. This guy gets into all kinds of trouble that he just never learns.
Depraved as he is, Aogami was also the very first person to treat them kindly when they started middle school—especially when both were having a hard time with both the faculty and students. Say what you want about him, he was a true and very loyal friend.
"Can't help but say what I see, Kama-yan." Aogami smiled.
"I told you to stop calling me that stupid nickname." Tōma frowned.
"Why? It suits you."
"No, it doesn't."
Aogami's eyes then zeroed in on Tsubaki, "Ah, Tsubaki-chan~! Looking lovely as always~!" He swooned at her.
Tsubaki simply smiled, "Good morning, Aogami. Still a piece of trash that belongs on the side of the road, I see." She said, pleasantly.
"Gah! How can someone with a beautiful face like yours say such things?!" Aogami exclaimed, "But even so…insulting me with your verbal tongue lashing is still very hot and appealing~!"
"Is that so? Then shall I shove a poisonous flower within your rectum to induce a pain you've never felt before?" Tsubaki replied in a cheerful tone.
"Okay, that's enough S&M for one morning, let's go." Tōma said, dryly as he gently moved his sister away from Aogami's excited expression.
"I wouldn't mind being pierced by Tsubaki-chan's graceful flower. To feel her shoving it so far up my—"
"—finish that sentence and I'll shove something up there, but It'll be sharp and cause bodily harm." Tōma threatened, deadly serious.
Aogami wisely kept his mouth shut as they walked to class.
Already sitting in one of the seats by the window was another boy. His hair was dyed blonde, wearing sunglasses and a chain around his neck. His name is Tsuchimikado Motoharu, another friend of Touma and Aogami. Seeing them after the room, he waved at them, "Yo, Kama-yan, Aogami, and Tsubaki-chan!" He greets them.
"Hey, surprised to see you here so early." Tōma commented, taking a seat by the window.
"Nyaa, I'm just full of surprises." Tsiuchimikado pointed out.
The black haired boy snorted, "Fair point."
Aogami decided to add something to the conversation, "So, when's the next competition coming up, Kama?"
"Not for a while, so I've got some time to kill," Tōma replied, "The captain didn't tell us which school we'll be going up against next. So until then, we've got some free time."
Tsiuchimikado smirked, "The last school you guys went up against was Tokiwadai, right?" He remembered there was a big uproar about how a promising and prized Level 4 Esper from Tokiwadai had lost to a Level 0 from an unknown school. As one would expect, there was some outrage about the whole thing, but Kama-yan didn't seem to care all that much.
Personally, he found the whole thing to be hilarious.
"Yeah…that was a headache." Tōma grimaced, recalling how after the match ended his opponents fangirls tried to jump him—only to be scared into submission by his sister who was with him at the time.
"I bet, those fangirls looked ready to kill you, only to willfully submit to Tsubaki-chan's vicious stare." Aogami grinned.
Turning to face him, she smiled, "It's a shame they didn't try to attack me. That would have been the perfect time to let my new friends have some fun with brand new toys."
"No." Tōma rejected.
She shrugged a little, "Such a shame, oh well."
Tsiuchimikado and Aogami could tell she wasn't kidding either, 'Oh, man…she's a total bro-con and yandere. A dangerous combination.' They thought, what do you get when you combine the two categories?
…a sea of bodies.
Her upper lip twitched, whether it was in amusement or annoyance was unknown, "I can tell what the two of you are thinking, and respectfully ask that you keep your thoughts to yourself." And that wasn't a request either.
'She can even read minds! Scary…!' They shuddered.
The classroom door slides open, "Yes, yes! Sit down everyone, class is about to begin!" A cheerful voice announced, coming through the door. A small individual walked in, holding a folder in her arms. Despite her small appearance and looking like a child—she was actually an adult woman and their teacher—Tsukuyomi Komoe.
Tsukuyomi Komoe was 135cm, pink hair and eyes. She was wearing a white shirt and pink dress. No one knows how old she is, and no one is stupid enough to ask. Asking about her age would make the poor woman burst into tears, and that is a big no, no.
"Good morning everyone! Today we'll have another fun lesson plan!" Komoe-sensei announced in a cheerful tone.
"Ahhh! Just being able to see that cute face of yours is more than enough to get me all hot and bothered, sensei~!" Aogami swooned, swaying in his seat. All the other guys, aside from Tōma, agreed with him.
"My, my, try not to be too naughty today boys." She teased, winking.
"OOOOOHHHHHH!" The guys went wild.
Ignoring the chaos in the classroom, Tōma looked out the window and gazed at the clear blue sky. He was debating in his head as to whether the night would be a quiet one or not.
Guess he'll have to wait and see.
Heaven Canceller's Hospital
Tōma and Tsubaki were currently roaming the halls of the hospital. They didn't come as potential patients, but they were here to visit someone. An interesting individual who one night came to assist them, even though it was entirely unexpected. And since they couldn't just leave this person out in the open, bringing them here was the most logical choice.
Upon arriving at the office door they were looking for, they politely knocked before entering. Staring them right in the face was an elderly doctor, who oddly enough bore a striking resemblance to that frog character Gekota. His name isn't known to anyone, so people simply call him Heaven Canceller.
"Ah, good evening you two." He greeted them.
"Hey, doc. Sorry to bother but we came to see how the girl we brought in was doing." Tōma said.
The man smiled, "Of course. Like before you two were last here, she's still sleeping and hasn't shown any signs of waking up at all." He told them.
"I see, and no one has come here to claim her still, then?" Tsubaki inquired. That was the strangest part about all this. The girl they brought in looked to be about in middle school, she's a minor who should not have been out there that night. And yet there was no missing persons report sent out on her from Judgement, nor did any family member call any hospitals to question if a girl matching her description was placed in their care.
And then…there was her "special condition" that prompted them to bring her here in the first place.
"None." He replied, taking them to an isolated room and opening the door for them to enter.
Sleeping soundly in bed was the very same girl they were discussing. She seems to be around middle school age, with black hair buns on both sides. While not visible underneath the blanket, she was also wearing a hospital gown. On her face was a black that covered the lower half of her face.
Poor girl.
There were so many questions regarding and yet they were no closer to getting any answers. Tōma moved some of her bangs out of conscious habit. If no one was looking for this unknown girl, then—
"We can just take her in." Tsubaki suggests, taking him by surprise, "You were thinking the same thing, weren't you?"
Well, yeah he was, but…
"Are you sure?" He asked.
"I am. And besides, she's adorable." Tsubaki emphasized this by poking the unconscious girl's cheek.
'Ah, she acts too much like nee-san sometimes.' He thinks.
"If you two are willing to look after until her family eventually comes to find her, then you're more than welcome." Heaven Canceller tells them.
"Sounds good to me, and Tsubaki's okay with it, so no problems here, doc." Tōma would have to call their parents and let them know about everything. Maybe they could get in contact with an old family friend of theirs and he can figure something out.
That settles that.
Academy City looked much different at night compared to during the day. True there were very few people around, but what made the city so different were the lights.
One would expect the city to be more quiet at night, and yet that doesn't seem to be the case.
The siblings were informed of another "sighting" and were given the location by the messenger crow. Not to sound like a downer and all, but things would really make their jobs a lot easier if some students and other residents would stay in their homes at night and not go out to do who knows what.
Speaking of which…
Sniffing the air, he paused in his tracks. To his right were some delinquents currently hassling a girl from Tokiwadai. Girls from prestigious schools like theirs are always targeted by thugs like these guys. Closing his eyes, he takes another whiff of the air and pauses again.
Wait a minute…are they seriously picking a fight with…
Opening his eyes, he got a better look at the girl and couldn't believe just how crazy these guys are. These guys were actually messing with one of Academy City's prized Level 5 Espers.
And out of all of them, it just so happened to be the "ACE of Tokiwadai."
Misaka Mikoto—Railgun.
This time he didn't bother to give these guys a pitiful look, but didn't try to help them either. The reason for this is because there's been a lot of attempted student assaults on those from Tokiwadai lately. Chances are Misaka Mikoto decided to investigate the culprit responsible and deal with them herself.
Understandable, really.
He doubts she'll end up killing them anyway, so everything will be fine. Helping them wasn't an option, but he will warn them.
"Excuse me." He called out to the ignorant thugs. All at once, their attention was on him, "If you all don't want to spend the rest of your days in the hospital then I suggest you leave."
Warning them would probably be pointless, but he can at least say he tried.
"Huh? Who the fuck are you?!"
What is it with thugs and the crude language? Was it a requirement or something?
"Did you know that Tokiwadai has two Level 5's?" Tōma continued, "One of them is a lot more well known than the other."
"What are you talking about, you little shit?!"
…do they seriously not understand what he's getting at?
Letting out a tired sigh, he decided to be nice and make things more clear, "In other words…" he heard the electricity first before seeing it, "…that girl is none other than Tokiwadai's—
Finally hearing the static noise, the thugs turn around to see the girl they were harassing was surrounded by electricity. It was at that point—the foolish thugs finally realized the error of their mistake.
But unfortunately for them—
—it was far too late.
—Railgun."
CRASH!
As he expected, Misaka Mikoto showed them no mercy. The only reason he wasn't twitching on the ground right along with them was because he used his right hand to protect himself.
Talk about convenience.
Walking over to the unconscious delinquents, he kneels down to feel their pulse. Good, they're still breathing. Of course she wouldn't go that far, but you never know.
Coming to his feet, he was about to walk away but that was halted when Misaka Mikoto addressed him.
"You…how are you still…" Judging by the look on her face she was surprised to see he was still standing in contrast to the thugs at her feet.
Not wanting to linger around here any longer than he already has, he decided to make himself scarce, "Since you have this taken care of I'll just be on my way." He turned and walked away, disappearing from her sight.
Looks like he dodged a bullet with that little encounter.
He hoped.
BUZZ! BUZZ! BUZZ!
His cellphone going off could only mean one thing. Hitting the answering button, he brings it up to his ear, "Target located." His sister said on the other end of the line.
She found it first, good.
"Got it."
Let the hunt begin.
Prey is essential.
That is the thought going through the grotesque creature stalking a quiet street on this night. How strange that no human was out here right now for it to hunt down and feed off of their remains. Surely if it kept walking it would find something—
"—You have that eager look on your face," Tsubaki got behind the demon and said in its ear, "Are you perhaps waiting for something?"
The demon stilled at the sudden appearance of the girl behind him, but Tsubaki wasn't worried at all. She was all smiles, "Good evening, such a lovely night this is."
Unsettled, the demon jumped away from the girl and was about to attack, but saw she was no longer standing there.
'Where?' The demon looked around but saw no signs of her—
—until it was too late.
"Hana no Kokyū: Shi no Kata (Flower Breathing: Fourth Form…
The demon's eyes widened as the girl was right in front of him. Before it could even try to defend itself, a single and yet graceful sword slash curves and twists—slashing its chest deeply.
…Beni Hanagoromo (Crimson Hanagoromo)."
Taking a few steps backwards, the demon places a hand on its chest. One thing it noticed was that the girl didn't aim for its head. Smirking, the demon began to move towards her…only to still once more when it felt pain like nothing ever felt before shooting through its whole body.
Tsubaki smiled, "You've probably noticed by now, but there's an aggressive poison currently flowing through your veins."
She was right. The poison was very strong, so strong in fact it could no longer stand—falling to its knees. Even its veins were practically bulging—showing the severe pain it was currently in.
"Wisteria."
It gave her a confused look.
"Have you forgotten? Unlike us, this particular flower is something your kind avoids like the plague. Do you know why?" She questioned.
In response to her question, she got a grunt.
Lifting her finger, a lone butterfly landed on her finger, "Wisteria acts as a deadly poison to demons. That is the difference between humans and demons," she was eyeing the demon in amusement, "To us, wisteria is but a flower with a unique fragrance—but to your kind—it acts as a repellent and deadly poison when it enters your bloodstream."
The demon glared, 'This woman…when did she manage to poison me?!' It thinks, gritting its teeth in anger.
Tsubaki placed the butterfly on her shoulder, "I'm sure you're curious about how I somehow managed to poison you. It was simple really—" she unsheathed her sword to show the demon, "—I coated my katana with so much wisteria that not even you noticed. Speaking of which, don't you think the color of my sword looks beautiful? This lovely purple color…"
Her words ring true as the blade was indeed the same color as the flower their kind have hated since long ago. It wasn't just the blade that was interesting. The hilt is in the shape of the very same flower she was named after. The words engraved on the sword translates to (壊滅, Kaimetsu) Obliteration.
"Also," she continued to say, "I could have decapitated you easily, but doing that wouldn't be any fun. That's why I opted to poison you instead."
In response to her casual sadistic nature, the demon's glare became much more fierce.
"I'd appreciate it if you didn't glare at my sister like that."
Flinching at the new voice, the demon turned to look behind—
—only to suddenly see the world upside down.
'W—What…? Was I just cut?' The demon thought in total confusion.
While its head was currently flying in the air, Tōma was standing next to its kneeling body—sword out and at his side.
"Mizu no Kokyū—Ichi no kata: Minamo Giri (Water Breathing—First Fo ️rm: Water Surface Slash)." Tōma named the technique he used on the demon.
Because it happened so fast, the demon hadn't noticed. Tōma generated enough momentum to create a powerful single concentrated slash.
Long ago—there was a race that existed and became enemies of the human race.
Tōma sheathed his blade as the demon's body began to disintegrate.
They killed and devoured humans—however—humanity was not powerless.
Once the demon faded from existence, the siblings vanished from the area. Proof of them being there right along with a demon was non-existent.
There are those who fight against these enemies. Wielding their blades and protecting humanity.
That night—Academy City had some uninvited guests dwelling within.
Some day—should this dangerous race appear in the world once more—then another battle between humans and demon—
—will begin again.
