Author's Note:

So guess what I've been working on for the last six-ish months.

Welcome to my sequel story of the Aura Guardian Pokemon Fanfiction Series (name for the franchise to be determined)! To those of you who are here from my previous AG Story welcome back and strap yourselves in for another adventure! And to anybody joining us for the first time, Welcome! I'm doing a sequel! If you wanna check out the previous Aura Guardian story (which features an older Ash Ketchum who becomes an Aura Guardian,) check out my bio!

But anywho... It's feels so good to be back. Once the Aura Guardian had concluded, I knew the future path that I wanted to take some of these characters in a spin-off story. While I do not own the Pokemon property, here we are again with another Pokemon Story that I wanted to tell. So here we are.

I hope you enjoy...

Alexa, The Aura Guardian

The Battle for the Boulder Badge

-Pewter City-

The town of rugged mountains. Located in the northern Kanto Region, but just south of the legendary Tree of Beginning, this town is famous for attracting new trainers on their journey across this vast Pokemon World. Home to the famous Pewter City Museum, tourists from far and wide will pay a visit to marvel at Pokemon Fossils from the ancient past. However, what really draws trainers in is the famed Pewter City Gym, and the Leader's arsenal of Rock Type Pokemon.

While this Gym is perfect for youngsters seeking to attain their first badge, not all are successful on their first go-about. Seated on the front steps outside of the rocky-style building was a 10 year old boy sporting jeans and a white sweatshirt with a thick red stripe down the center, holding a single Pokeball in his hands. After suffering a loss, tears were running down his face.

'All that training in Viridian Forest… and we still weren't strong enough to beat him…' The youngster thought to himself. 'I'm sorry Bulbasaur…'

'However, our tale is not about this youngster. But one who has come to collect her badge as a trainer of the Kanto League.'

Suddenly, the teary-eyed child looked up, as he heard the taps of footsteps walking down the stone pathway leading to the Gym. Seeing a pair of brown hiking boots, the boy scanned upwards, seeing the owner of said shoes: a girl no older than 15, sporting tan cargo pants, and a red jacket with a black undershirt. Atop her head was a red bandana with a white Pokeball pattern, with medium length black hair with a golden streak running through it on the right side. Marveling up at the towering building before her, the teenager had an excited expression on her face, along with a full team of six pokeballs on her belt.

"OHHH YEAHHHHH!" The female trainer exclaimed in excitement, throwing her arms up into the air. "Alright! Pewter City Gym, here I come!" She exclaimed, before taking notice of the youngster staring up at her. "Oh- hey kiddo." She said, before quickly dropping down into a crouch in front of the boy. "Why are you crying?"

"Oh- It's nothing," The boy said, wiping away his eyes out of embarrassment. "It's just… my Pokemon and I got beat pretty bad. That Gym Leader is super tough."

Maintaining a crouching down in front of the boy, the female trainer spoke in a calming voice. "I'm sorry to hear that... But you can't win 'em all." She then took a seat on the steps, next to the defeated trainer.

"Yeah, but everything I learned at the Trainer School didn't help me," The boy said. "I thought the Bulbasaur I just got from Professor Oak would really help me out… but it didn't stand a chance against his Onix…"

"Well, upsets can always happen out on the battlefield. Sometimes you have to think on your feet to get you out of a scenario. If you play everything by the books, you can miscalculate and it'll cost ya," The teen said in a friendly tone.

"Huh… you sure know a lot about battling."

"Well, I have been a trainer for about a year now, and believe me, I've seen a thing or two in that time. I'm actually here to win my first ever Gym Badge."

"Your first one!" The boy said, somewhat in shock. 'She's been a trainer for a whole year and is now taking on the Kanto Gym Challenge?!' He thought to himself. 'I know the world has been crazy lately, but that's just... nuts!'

"That's right," The teen said, pulling out a black badge case, opening it to show off a blue, teardrop shaped badge inside, with seven other empty slots. "Well, technically my second one. My rival and I spent some time training in the Cerulean Cave and then we went on to challenge the Gym, but the three Leaders there were just handing out badges. I'm here to actually earn my first one."

"Cerulean Cave! How'd you manage to get in there?! That place is full of uber strong Pokemon!"

"Well, my mom's husband was granted special permission for us to go in and train there," The teen said, scratching her chin. "Now it's my goal to collect all the Gym Badges and challenge the Champion!"

"That's what I want to do!" The boy said, before taking a long pause. "But then again… Bulbasaur and I got beat pretty badly in there… I don't see us having much luck challenging all the other strong Gym Leaders out there…"

"Well hey, keep your chin up, uh- I'm sorry, I never asked for your name," The female trainer said, placing a hand on the back of her head.

"It's Bryce."

"Well keep your chin up, Bryce," The teen said, rising up out of her seat, turning towards the Gym. "As long as you trust in your Pokemon, they'll put in the work for you. Now it's time for me to get in there and get my Boulder Badge!" Waving goodbye to the youngster, the teen held her head high as she began her walk towards the sliding glass doors to the Gym.

"Hey!" The boy said, springing up from his seat and turning to her. "Thank you for the advice! But I never caught your name!"

Taking a pause at the door, the black-haired trainer spun around towards her new friend. "The name's Alexa. Alexa Ketchum!"

As Alexa entered the large interior of the Pewter Gym, she marveled at the rock-garden-like field before her eyes. With a sandy terrain across the floor and the stadium lights casting a bright glow on the field, Alexa entered the center of the battlefield and spun around in awe at the arena around her. 'Now this is a Gym!' She thought to herself.

"Alexa! So glad you made it," A shirtless trainer said, seated atop a rocky pedestal across the field. Sporting a pair of brown trunks and a spiky brown hairdo, the friendly 27 year old Gym Leader rose up from his seat and crossed over to the trainer in the center of the field. "I don't think I've seen you since Ash's wedding! How have you been?"

"It's great to see you again, Brock!" The trainer exclaimed, looking up at the tall, dark skinned trainer before her. "My team and I have been training hard, and are ready to take on your Gym!"

Entering through the sliding glass doors, and moving over to the back wall was Bryce, the child whom Alexa had met just outside the Gym. Taking notice, Brock's focus shifted over to the boy for a brief moment. "Well hello there, Bryce! Care to watch me have my match against Alexa?" Timidly, the boy nodded his head 'yes' as he darted over to a set of silver bleachers located to the left of the Gym. "How about you and I put on a show for him? He's got a lot to learn." Brock whispered to the Ketchum girl.

"I was planning on it," Alexa said with a determined grin.

"The battle between challenger Alexa Ketchum and Pewter City Gym Leader Brock will soon commence!" A young man on the sidelines (who bore a very similar appearance to Brock) stated, raising his arm. "This will be a three on three battle with substitutions! The first trainer to knock out their opponent's team will be declared winner! You may start on my whistle!" Brock's brother Forrest blew his whistle, signifying that the battle could start. Each trainer enlarged their respective Pokeballs, winding up, and then pitched them out onto the field.

"Go, Geodude!" Brock shouted, throwing out the Rock Pokemon with two large fists on either side of its body.

"Go, Grovyle!" Alexa exclaimed, tossing out the Grass-type starter of the Hoenn Region. Throwing back the long leaf atop its head, Grovyle stared down at the Pokemon before it, unintimidated. Keeping its shoulders loose, it awaited for its trainer's command.

'Wow! A Grovyle all the way in Kanto!' Bryce thought to himself. 'A Grass Type! She really came prepared for this fight!'

"Alright Grovyle, let's go for a Bullet Seed!"

"Protect yourself with a Rock Throw!" Brock responded.

Crossing its arms, before throwing them back and dropping its jaw, Grovyle fired off a stream of glowing yellow seeds at the Rock/Ground Pokemon. Digging its hands into the sandy field, the Geodude raised its arms revealing two large boulders clenched in its stony hands. Smashing the two objects together, the Kantonian Geodude formed a protective barrier in front of itself to deflect the quad-effective Grass Type attack. Once Grovyle had ceased its attack, the Geodude pitched forth the left rock, followed by the right one.

"Dodge it!" Grovyle's trainer exclaimed, as the starter broke into a sprint across the field. Sliding on its knees to evade both projectiles, Grovyle popped back up to its feet now in close range of its target. "Now use Leaf Blade!" Crossing its arms, the blades of grass from its forearms elongated into two bright green Leaf Blades. Slashing across the face of its opponent in the form of an 'X', the Geodude was blown backwards into the stadium wall to Brock's left.

Spinning around with his jaw wide open, the Pewter City Gym Leader saw that his Pokemon had swirls in its eyes, signifying that it was out cold. "Geodude is unable to battle!" Forrest, the referee, announced. "Will my big bro Brock please select his next Pokemon."

"That was some maneuver, Alexa," Brock said with a grin, recalling his fainted Pokemon, before drawing out a new ball. "But let's see how you fare against my Forretress!" Sending out his next Pokemon, the Steel/Bug type of Johto spun across the field encased within its hard, exterior coating. Coming to a halt several feet from Grovyle, the Pokemon opened itself up revealing its large eyes and four spike-like protrusions, awaiting for its trainer's command.

'A Forretress! Brock never used that in our battle!' Bryce thought, now hanging on the edge of his seat. 'That's gonna make for quite the defensive wall, so there's not gonna be any one-shotting that thing!'

"Alright Grovyle, use Leaf Blade!"

"Forretress, use Protect!"

As Grovyle made its dash across the field, the blades on its arms grew out in length once more. However, before it could strike the Pokemon's fleshy interior, the Johto Pokemon sealed itself off, as a metal sheen glowed off the steely plates that made up its shell. Striking its hardened exterior, Grovyle was unable to break through.

"Gyro Ball!" Brock exclaimed, seeing that the Hoenn Starter had been drawn in close. Entering a rapid rotation, a silver glow overtook the Pokemon's body as it barreled into Grovyle's midsection, sending the Pokemon flying back towards its trainer. Smashing into a boulder in front of Alexa, Grovyle slowly rose back up onto two wobbly legs.

"Alright Grovyle, time to take a nice rest," The female trainer said, withdrawing her Pokemon. Pulling out her substitution, Alexa readied to throw it out onto the field.

'I can't wait to see who she'll have next!' Bryce thought, as he was impressed with her Grovyle's strength. 'I bet a Fire type would be super helpful right about now!'

"Go Abra!" She exclaimed, catching the trainer on the sidelines and Brock by surprise. The small Psychic Pokemon hovered in the air with its legs crossed, scratching at its left ear with a single finger.

"An Abra!" Bryce exclaimed, popping out of his seat, seeing the tiny Pokemon before Alexa. 'But Psychic is weak to Bug and resisted by Steel… how can she pull this off?'

"Don't judge my little buddy by his size!" Alexa said, glancing over to the new trainer with a grin. "Cause Abra sure knows a few tricks! He's uncanny and I love him!"

"Abra!" The Pokemon gleefully cheered.

"I know I won't be!" Brock exclaimed. "Forretress, use Gyro Ball!"

"Abra, use Teleport!"

As the Bagworm Pokemon rocketed across the field in the direction of its hovering opponent, its target would soon be gone in the blink of an eye. Rematerializing high above the battlefield, the Pokemon witnessed Forretress shoot onwards, hitting nothing in the process.

"Let's get up there with a Magnet Rise!" Brock exclaimed, pointing up at the hovering Pokemon. Shifting its momentum, Forretress revealed its eyes and caught sight of its airborne target. Lunging off the ground, the rotund Pokemon went airborne itself, using magnetic waves from below to carry it high above the battlefield.

'Bingo,' Alexa thought to herself, seeing the exposed Forretress shooting up to her Pokemon. "Use Fire Punch!" Drawing back its right hand, igniting it in flame, Abra hovered down and socked the Forretress right between its eyes. As fire burst from the punch, the Johto Pokemon was sent rocketing down to the field below, smashing a large boulder that lay on the field. Rolling backwards, Forretress was shown to have been significantly battered by the move.

"A Fire Punch on an Abra!" Bryce exclaimed. "But I thought that Abra was a better Special Attacker!"

"Like I said, sometimes you just have to go for the uncanny," Alexa said with a shrug. "Now let's finish him off Abra!"

"I wouldn't get your hopes up!" Brock exclaimed. "Use Gyro Ball!"

As Abra teleported out of the air and back onto the battlefield, it witnessed Forretress rapidly spinning towards it, encased in its shield with a silver glow over its body. Teleporting out of the way, Abra reappeared down the field just to the left of Brock. Ricocheting off a boulder, Forretress (still mid-Gyro Ball) flew in the direction of the small Psychic type. This prompted Abra to Teleport once again, appearing right before its trainer. Ducking at his oncoming Pokemon, Forretress hit the back wall of the Gym, before soaring over Brock's head once again. Still maintaining its Gyro Ball, Forretress was intent on hitting its target.

"Now Abra!" Alexa exclaimed, as the Pokemon before her stuck out its two hands. A purple glow covered Forretress's exterior as it froze in mid-air, earning a shocked expression from Brock. Throwing its arms upwards, Forretress was thrown up into the ceiling of the Gym, before taking a free fall onto the floor below. Releasing its clamped shell, Forretress was shown to have been eliminated from the battle.

"Forretress is unable to battle!" The referee of the match exclaimed. "Brock is now down to his final Pokemon!"

'This is it! Brock's big bad Onix is next!' Bryce said in his inner monologue. 'Alexa sure knows her stuff, but I doubt that tiny thing could take on that monster of a Pokemon.'

"Return Forretress," Brock said, recalling it in a red beam of light. "You did terrific." Alexa, from her side of the field, recalled her Abra, making another switch once again. "That little guy sure packs a punch, Alexa. I hope you don't mind, but I brought a Pokemon from my personal roster to help me out in this battle!"

"Bring it on Brock!" Alexa said with a determined look. "Because my final teammate sure is a doozy!"

With a grin and a nod, Brock pitched his final Pokemon out onto the field. "Steelix! Give 'em everything you've got!" The Pokeball burst open as the mighty Iron Snake Pokemon hit the field, raising its head high into the air, casting a massive shadow over the field.

The 10 year old on the sidelines to fall backwards out of his seat, as he had never seen such a large Pokemon before. 'A Steelix from his personal team! I don't see how she'll be able to beat that… Maybe a Fighting type, or a Ground type of her own can pull it off...'

"Alright Electivire! Stand by for battle!" The teen exclaimed, pitching her third Pokemon out onto the field. Emerging from its ball was a hulking behemoth of a Pokemon, with bulging muscles beneath its black and yellow fur. Throwing its massive hands over its head, Electivire let out a mighty roar as Brock's Steelix stared down at it.

"An Electric type!" Bryce exclaimed, catching the attention of Brock, Alexa and their Pokemon. "But Steelix is part Ground Type! You won't be able to touch him!"

"Electi-vire!" The Pokemon angrily roared, pointing a finger at the boy in the crowd.

"Hey, it's alright Electivire! He's not trying to offend you!" Alexa said, trying to calm it, as her Pokemon turned away from the boy on the bleachers, locking back onto the Steelix.

"Don't forget, Bryce," Brock called over to the new trainer. "Alexa's team is full of surprises. However, since your older brother bested me with my own sprinkler system years ago, I don't see how its Electric typing will help you out in this scenario."

'Brock is right! Electivire won't be able to touch that thing with its Electric attacks… That Electivire does look massive though. It's gotta be a couple feet taller than the standard one… but still, that doesn't mean much when your opponent is that large…'

Steelix let out a mighty roar from its metal jaws, however its opponent threw its head back letting out a battlecry of its own. "IRON HEAD!" Brock called out, making the first move.

As the bulky head of Steelix took on a hardened state, it propelled its massive frame forwards in an attempt to headbutt its opponent. As its large face grew ever closer, a smile grew on the face of Alexa as a glint came into her eyes. "Now, Electivire!" The teenager exclaimed, throwing out her hand.

Letting out a roar, Electivire stuck out its massive hands, catching the Steelix by the face as it came down. While it was pushed backwards several feet by the Iron Snake's momentum, Electivire gained its traction, completely halting the mighty Pokemon, while still holding it in place.

"What?!" Brock and Bryce both exclaimed at the sight of the Electivire's strength.

Next, the two black probes located on the back of the Pokemon rose up, as the red tips were pointed in the eyes of its opponent. Emitting a bright Flash from its probes, Steelix was forced to shut its eyes, slightly easing up from its attack.

"Use Crunch!" Brock exclaimed, changing his strategy to accommodate for its close-range opponent. Obeying its trainer, Steelix snapped its massive jaws in an attempt to latch onto its opponent. However, with its vision blurred and spots in its eyesight, Steelix could not make out a clear image of its foe, who was still maintaining a pushing force against its face.

"Alright Electivire, use Superpower!" Alexa roared, as her Pokemon pushed up on the Steelix with a single hand. Cocking its right arm back, an orange, swirling energy came over its right fist, just before it delivered an uppercut to the bottom of Steelix's jaw. An explosion of energy erupted from Electivire's fist as the Iron Snake Pokemon's head was whipped backwards. Toppling over, one body segment at a time, Brock's Steelix crashed down to the battlefield, sending up a cloud of dust.

Alexa and her Electivire stood in anticipation awaiting for the dust to settle. When it did, Forrest on the sideline blew the high pitched sound of its whistle, making a look of joy spread across both their faces. "Steelix is unable to battle! That means the challenger is today's victor!"

"Yeahhh! We did it Electivire!" Alexa cheered, rushing out onto the field and leaping into her massive Pokemon's arms, embracing it in a hug. Throwing the trainer up so she was seated on its shoulders, Electivire dropped down to one knee and flexed its bulging muscles.

'WHAT?!' Bryce thought, as shock overtook his body. 'They beat that thing in one punch!'

As Alexa cheerfully laughed from atop her Pokemon, the defeated Gym Leader entered the battlefield and rubbed his downed Pokemon's head. "You did your best out there, Steelix. Now have a nice, long rest!" Brock said, returning his Ace Pokemon to its ball.

Hopping down from her Pokemon, Alexa walked across the field with her eight-foot tall Electivire in tow, meeting Brock in the center of the field. Bowing her head to the Leader, Alexa showed her gratitude for the battle. "Thank you so much for the battle Brock. I'm always looking for opportunities to help strengthen the bond with my team members and you sure gave that to me today!"

"The pleasure was all mine, Alexa," Brock said with a bow of his own, returning the gesture. "You are sure raising some powerful Pokemon." Electivire threw a hand behind its head, loving it when its ego was inflated. "And as a sign of your victory, I would like you to have this." Extending his left hand, Brock showed off an grey, octagonal badge: The Boulder Badge.

Beaming with joy, Alexa took the symbol of her victory and raised it high into the air. "WOOO! I just earned my very first badge!"

"Electi-vire!" The Sinnoh Pokemon roared, taking her side, cheering for its trainer.

"That was amazing!" Bryce said, running onto the field from the bleachers. "You pulled off so many techniques that I would never have thought of!"

"What did I tell you Bryce," Brock said with a grin. "You can never underestimate your opponent in a battle. If you and your Bulbasaur take some notes from Alexa here, I'm sure you'll learn a whole lot."

"Oh, please Brock," Alexa said, fanning her hand. "You're flattering me." Suddenly, a rumbling sound came from her stomach. "Mannn, did I sure catch an appetite from that battle! Do you know if there's anywhere I can grab a bite to eat in this town *wink* *wink*?" She said, emphasizing her winking as Alexa was well aware that Brock was an amazing cook.

"Elec!" Her Pokemon roared, placing a hand on its own stomach.

"How about you guys take a load off here," Brock said, looking at the two trainers before him. "I'd be more than happy to whip up something for you all to eat. I'll even tend to your Pokemon for you."

"Your the best Brock!" Both trainers exclaimed, as Alexa's massive Electivire embraced the man into a hug, before carrying off towards the kitchen. Alexa and Bryce quickly followed in their footsteps.
