Tanshipping (Ryouta x Marik x Yami no Marik)
(This is one that I missed, and I'm sticking it in to fill in the hole. Please enjoy!)
It was funny, but even though he had lost – really early in the tournament, too – Ryouta Kajiki was in a fantastic mood. He hummed a little tuneless song to himself as he bounced along down the sidewalk. His hair was still hanging in wet clumps down his back, making dark spots down the back of his unbuttoned shirt, but it was warm today, so the feeling was quite nice. He fished the little piece of paper out of his pocket that had a telephone number from the orca trainer. He grinned foolishly as he pulled out his cell phone with the other hand and started putting in her contact information. Well, maybe he would end up staying in Domino for a little while longer. He'd like to play with the orca again...
So focused was he on his cell phone, he didn't notice the boy in front of him until their shoulders had collided. Ryouta's cell phone flew from his hand. He lunged for it, but it clattered across the sidewalk anyway.
"Gah!"
He raced over and picked up the phone, mashing at buttons. Well, it appeared to be working. Although, he had put that girl's name in as Asdfajkljf. He sighed with relief.
Then he realized the person he had collided with had dropped to one knee.
"Gah!" he said, running over. "I'm sorry! I wasn't looking – you okay?"
The other boy sprung upwards a little too quickly.
"Fine, fine," he said, dusting off his shoulders. "My apologies for worrying you – it wasn't you, I just had a bit of a migraine for a moment."
"Oh, uh...do you need me to call someone?"
"No, no, I'm fine."
Ryouta nodded slowly, but he couldn't help but not be convinced.
The boy had skin an even deeper tan than his own, which made Ryouta think he was foreign rather than just often in the sun like himself. His violet eyes were a round shape, not almond, so he definitely wasn't Asian, and his platinum blond hair looked a bit out of place against his darker skin. Ryota was sure the boy was foreign, but from where he would never be able to guess.
And there was a flicker of pain jumping across his face every few seconds, so Ryouta was guessing that the migraine was still going on.
"Are you sure you don't want me to call someone?" Ryouta asked. "You don't look very good."
There were dark circles under the boy's eyes and there appeared to be a slight tremble in his knees.
"I'm fine," the boy said, a little too harshly. "Just – carry on, with whatever you were doing."
Ryouta frowned. Well, the boy definitely wasn't fine...but Ryouta really couldn't keep pushing himself onto him.
"All right," he said, backing off. "Hope you feel better."
The boy forced a half smile that told Ryouta that wasn't even an option. Ryouta nodded slowly, and started to turn away.
And then something happened that chilled Ryouta right to the bones.
For a moment, the boy's face completely changed. His veins seemed to push outwards from his cheeks, his eyes went flat, and a manic smile spread just a little too widely over his face. Ryouta practically leapt backwards. That smile fixed onto him, and the boy took a step towards him –
Then the face changed back, the lines smoothing, the pupils dilating again. The boy blinked, looking at Ryouta with some confusion. Was the terror showing on Ryouta's face? Because it was certainly pulsing through him like quicksilver.
"Is something wrong?" he asked.
"Uh...no," Ryouta said. "Do you, uh, still have a migraine?"
"What? A migraine?" the boy said, brows coming together. "What are you talking about?"
"Never mind," Ryouta said.
He swallowed, nodded, and decided to leave as quickly as possible.
The boy had been wearing a duel disk. Maybe it was doubly lucky that Ryouta was out of the tournament already.
