Tsuyu woke up to the creak of her door opening. She covered her ears as the rusted steel scraped against the cold concrete floor.
Her eyes refocused and narrowed when she stared at the masked man in front of her. She growled. "You."
The man in front of her simply waved his hand. "No need for such pleasantries, Ms. Asui. Or should I just call you Tsuyu?"
Tsuyu's eyes widened. Then, just as fast as they opened, they narrowed. Head forward, she spat at the man, expecting him to flinch or at least move. He did tell them he knows their quirks, right?
Right?
She didn't expect the man to just take the hit. To her surprise, the spit was just that: saliva. There were no acidic components to the moisture. It was just like everyone else.
The man chuckled, and she flinched. "I see the confusion. You didn't know this, but connected to your wrists and ankles are quirk restraints. Considering you're a mutant type, your physical mutation hasn't changed, but anything like your ability to spit acid or to remove your stomach has been nullified. Made by me." He boasted proudly.
So he wasn't bluffing. Great.
If Tsuyu wasn't scared about her chances of escape, now she was terrified. With a simple explanation, her chances of escape were close to zero. She was taken from her musings by the masked man.
"So, Tsuyu-"
"Don't call me that!" She snapped. "Only Izuku-" realizing her mistake, she clammed her mouth shut. Her eyes displayed her panic.
The man nodded. She really wasn't sure what his expression was, but it was nothing good, she was sure. She didn't even know where Eri is, and Tsuyu was positive the girl was terrified without a familiar face around.
"Izuku? Surely you wouldn't be talking about Midoriya Izuku, hm? He is our resident vigilante, after all." He chuckled darkly. "Quite the talk of the town." The man quickly veered his eyes to the silent girl. "Rumour has it you have feelings for him, and he's actually feeling something for you too." He scoffed, ignoring the slack-jawed look she gave him. "Such feelings are preposterous. Tell me, do you think he's actually coming for a freak like you?" The man internally smiled as he saw tears forming in her eyes.
Ignoring the tears, the villain started circling around her. "You must be wondering exactly why I asked for you to come with me, hm?" He didn't even try to see if she was looking at him. He already knew he had her attention.
"Throughout the years I've been in the underworld, I developed a fascination for people with quirks and people without. Why is it that most have quirks and only a few don't? Now," he turned to the frog girl. "I also remember my great grandmother's teachings and stories of the days without quirks. The way people would step up for others by sheer bravery and strength alone, without the assistance of powers. Truly incredible, no?" He smirked at the shocked girl. "Anyways, story time aside, my point is that we as a society must flourish in the time without superhumans. We must be cured of the toxicity of our genetic impurities so we could show who really is fit to receive strength."
He faced towards the door. "My mission today is to see how we could really cure creatures like you and turn you into normal, quirkless people that our ancestors once were. In fact-"
A voice popped from the speaker nearby. "Overhaul, sir!"
The man scowled. "What?!"
"Heroes approaching! We've initiated all security measures but they're still coming!"
Overhaul shook his head, nonplussed. "Leave them to me and my new employee."
Tsuyu glared at the man. For the first time in what felt like hours, she spoke. Her voice laced with rage. "What do you mean, your new- GACK!"
She never had a chance to finish before a dart stuck into her shoulder. Her eyes blanked instantly, and her breathing slowed. She flopped to the bed in a deadened heap, unconscious.
Overhaul chuckled. "Tsuyu, my dear. I would apologize, but I'm actually looking forward to this." He plucked her from the bed she was perched on. He walked away from the room, the girl in his arms. "Let's see how your boyfriend fares with you as my assassin."
His footsteps became fainter, until they disappeared altogether. No one should have heard about the new change of plans, but one figure eavesdropped.
"Asui, fuck." Spinner was in panic mode. Thinking quickly, he drove his tail into the lock on his door. "I've got to warn them. Who knows what might happen." Grimacing in pain, he succeeded in dropping the rusted lock to the ground. Wrapping his bloodied tail in a strip of his shirt, he ran off, unsure of what would occur."
{Before the raid}
Izuku was seated at the end of a long, ovular table. His eyes scanned the heroes seated around. He smiled gratefully at them.
At the table sat All Might, Eraserhead, Gran Torino, Fatgum, Present Mic, Cementoss, Sir Nighteye, Mirko, Hawks, and begrudgingly, Midnight. Despite his disdain for the hero, he had to admit that she could be useful. Who knows, maybe he'd see her in a better light after they rescued the aspiring hero and his child.
He cleared his throat, catching all of their attention. "Thank you all for coming and volunteering in the rescue effort. I believe my students have informed you of what transpired, so i don't need to brief you over anything else but what to do now." He nodded to Aizawa, who had a hand raised.
"Quirkless," the stoic man spoke. "Who exactly is our opponent?"
Izuku's mood dropped drastically, at which everyone stared in surprise. Usually the vigilante was a literal sunshine around people he trusted. Aizawa narrowed his eyes. This change in attitude could only mean the villain was nothing to scoff at. The villain hit a nerve; if he didn't believe that Midoriya was attacked before, well this changed that belief altogether.
"The villain's name is Overhaul. He has a history of kidnapping teenagers, most of whom have the ability to alter people at a genetic level. Eri, my daughter, was kidnapped likely because of her ability to rewind objects to their original state. I believe I rescued her from Overhaul, actually."
"But why was Ms. Asui captured? Certainly her quirk cannot modify anything at a genetic level." The question was asked by Present Mic, who's tone was surprisingly soft.
Izuku nodded, fighting the tears that threatened to appear. "I don't exactly know, but based on the students' memories, Overhaul wanted to study her on her "Normalness". Whatever that means." He cleared his throat. "Anyways, I called on you all because personally, your quirks would be best to substitute an army. You're all powerful, and I believe that we can save the two girls."
"Uh, Quirkless?" Midnight asked. "Shouldn't we have more numbers? I mean, since Overhaul will most likely have an army, shouldn't we?"
"I agree with Midnight, no offense." Nighteye said. "We're going to need all the help we can get."
Izuku nodded. "Who would you suggest?"
"Midoriya." This time, it was All Might who stood. "I have faith that some of our students can help. They have quirks that may help us in the long run. Especially the ones that witnessed young Asui and Eri. Thanks to your help, they have trained well, and-" he was cut off by a slam to the table. He cocked a brow. "Young Midoriya?"
Izuku shook with anger. How could he not? His daughter was just kidnapped, and who knew what was happening to Tsuyu? It boiled him that the instructors would endanger his students just because they needed numbers on their side.
What good were numbers if they dropped like flies?
"How dare you." His voice was quiet at first.
"Young Midoriya?"
Izuku shot to his feet, a knife in hand. "How. Dare. You?" His mask covered his mouth, but the instructors didn't need a mask to know that he was livid. "One of my students was just kidnapped and you want to send MORE? Why? Just because you want some sort of feeling that we will win just by numbers alone? Really?"
He chuckled darkly. "You could have recommended some other pro heroes, like Mount Lady, or The Wild, Wild Pussycats, but you just have to want what's easier, huh?"
His eyes stared into the number one heros'. "I'm not risking any inexperienced lives."
"Izuku?"
He looked behind him and standing there was Momo, Jirou, and Todoroki, with Momo at the front. "A word please."
Izuku nodded and turned to the group of pros. "Please excuse my outburst just now." He bowed. "It was unprofessional. Now, excuse me for a moment." He walked off, leaving the room with the three students.
The heroes in the room were speechless. As everyone thought about what the vigilante said, Midnight turned to Present Mic and Eraserhead. She smirked. "Izuku, huh? Someone's been getting a little close to the others. Makes me wonder how close they are."
Present Mic sighed. "Nemuri, you know that's their business. Even if they are dating, we have to focus on the rescue. Right, Shouta?"
"Actually, I've been wondering if Midoriya finally landed someone."
Mic's eyes widened behind his glasses. "Huh?"
Aizawa gave a smirk of his own. "He might be a faculty member and our associate, but he's still a teenager. We all forget that. Love is just a natural part of growing up, we've all been there."
Hizashi and Nemuri nodded. "So wise." The heroine commented.
Aizawa rolled his eyes. "Shut up."
Nemuri's smile grew wide. "So you care about him."
Aizawa rolled his eyes once more. "He's still a problem child. I do care about his growth just as much as I care about my students."
"Awww." The two instructors cooed.
"Everyone, what's going on?" Izuku was curious. Weren't they to be in their homerooms?
Surprisingly, Yui was the first one to step up. The usually timid girl held an aura of determination. "Let us help rescue Tsuyu."
Shinso stepped next to her. "Before you say no right off the bat, let us explain."
Izuku sighed softly. "Alright, make your case."
Shinso nodded. "We need to help because our quirks can be useful for rescue. Jirou can detect where the enemies will be and where our allies are." The girl nodded.
"Todoroki is a powerhouse that can be used for offensive measure. He has two quirks and can use them." The dual haired boy nodded.
"Momo can create anything, as you already know. So she can create medical supplies." The girl nodded.
"Kodai can alter the size of anything she touches, so she's a great asset to any rescue." She agreed.
"Kirishima is not only experienced by your side, but his hardening can be good for taking the brunt of the hits. And I can control anyone who answers me. We can all be used for rescuing Eri and Asui." The students waited nervously while Izuku thought about the statement.
He breathed out. "My answer is no. I'm sorry. I just can't risk any lives."
"But Izuku! We-"
"No, Jirou. No. If you all come, you'll most likely perish. I...I just can't."
Todoroki shook his head. "No."
The counselor glared at him. "And why do you say that?"
Todoroki stared him in the eye. "Because we have to be there. We're at fault for the two's kidnapping. We have to be there for the rescue."
"I appreciate the effort you all are going for this, but how would they feel knowing any one of you died in the rescue effort?"
The group looked down. They thought of that. They all discussed the risks. They knew what would happen. Yet…
"We already know." Momo answered.
Izuku wanted to pull his hair out. Why couldn't they see that just this once, their connection with each other wouldn't help?
Jirou placed a cautious hand on his shoulder. "Izuku," her voice was soft, he realized. It was probably the softest he heard her. "What's the real reason why you won't let us help?"
Izuku couldn't bear to meet her eyes. "I just can't."
"You can't what?" Her voice wanted to calm him down, he was sure. But he knew prodding when he heard it. It was infuriatingly sweet.
"I can't lose anyone anymore." He wanted to sound angry. He wanted to make them feel like he was cross with them. But for some reason he couldn't muster the anger.
It wasn't like he wasn't telling the truth either. He thought of his mom, of Tsuyu, of Eri. He lost his mom, and now two girls he cares for deeply might be gone too.
"Izuku." Yui piped up. "We'll be okay. We have you, we won't even be fighting. We're just going to rescue and assist." The others nodded.
"I'd bring them, if I were you."
All turned to Aizawa, all but one mouth dropped. Jirou turned to the others. "Holy shit. Did Aizawa just come to bat for us?"
"Any more of that language and I'll find a way to do the opposite."
Jirou quickly moved away, shifting her focus back onto the vigilante.
Speaking of, Izuku glared daggers into the teacher. "And just why are you suddenly so supportive of inexperience going on this. You know fully well this isn't some kind of field trip."
Aizawa nodded. "Usually, I'd say no to the students attending this, but here's the thing. We're short on heroes and time. Unfortunately, their argument is solid. On top of that, UA is planning on all years to attend internships, so after a discussion, UA has allowed these specific students to act like this is their internship. They'd just be interning early."
His eyes shifted to the group of students, his gaze piercing through them. "They will be assigned to a hero. They are not to leave that hero unless an external force demands they part. I won't guarantee their safety a hundred percent," his eyes softened as he placed a hand on Izuku's shoulder. "But they will be safer than if they decided to sneak into the raid regardless."
It took a while for Izuku to even respond. His mind was abuzz with emotion, scenarios, responses, and argument. While he looked calm and collected, briefly moving his eyes from the pro in front of him to the students behind, his mind was the complete opposite. Finally, he came to a conclusion.
Izuku shook his head. "I may not like it, but you're right, as always." He freely gave a light chuckle. "If I know them well, they would have snuck into the raid." He missed the guilty looks the students gave each other. "And...I trust you, Eraserhead. If they're being watched over, then I suppose that's the best we can give." He rolled his eyes at the not so subtle victory whispers.
He turned to the group, which comically reverted back to their original poses. "If you are to join the raid, you all are to do exactly what the heroes say. If they tell you to retreat, you will retreat. If they give you permission to fight, you fight. Am I clear?"
The students nodded.
Izuku gave a soft smile. "Let's go save Eri and Tsuyu."
The students cheered and filed out of the room. Izuku moved to do the same when a calloused hand was placed on his shoulder. He looked up to see the soft eyes of the professor.
"Midoriya."
"Yes, Aizawa?"
Aizawa sighed. "Asui means a lot to you, doesn't she?"
Izuku blinked. He wasn't expecting this.
"Well, yeah." He nodded. "I care for her, she is my student after all."
Aizawa shook his head. "That's not what I was asking, and you know it."
Izuku paused, thinking about his co-worker's words.
Who knew Aizawa was this capable of caring?
Izuku sighed. "She means the world to me, and the fact that she was taken at all burns me up."
"But she isn't the only one you care for romantically."
"How did you-? You know what, I'm just going to go with it." Aizawa chuckled at Izuku's words.
Izuku cracked a genuine smile, which promptly disappeared. "All those girls: Yui, Kyoka, Momo, Tsuyu. I care for them so much, and this raid scares me. I'm not worried about me. I'm worried about them. I'd never forgive myself if they were hurt, or worse."
"Midoriya, They'll be with a pro, it'll be alright. We'll discuss the plan again when we get to the room. Come on." Aizawa led the vigilante back.
"You know," Aizawa started. Izuku looked at the walking teacher as they walked. "I might let Asui have a day off and you two can have a little date."
Izuku froze. What?
He heard the fading chuckle of the usually stoic teacher. "Just a thought. I'm very observant."
Izuku shook his head and rushed to the meeting room.
