When I woke the day after Nik was back in his body, Nik was laying next to me on Ric's bed.
"Morning Nikky." he said smiling at me.
"Hi Nik." I said smiling. He pulled me the short distance to him and kissed me deeply. I kissed him back just as deeply and he held me to him.
"You've been sleeping for a while now, love." he said.
"I'm human and pregnant. Both of those means lots of sleep." I told him getting comfortable. "So, which of my friends do you plan on using in the sacrifice?" I asked him.
"Don't worry about it. You'll know when the time is right." he told me and I sighed.
"No matter who you use these people are my friends and family. I have a right to know." I told him.
"It's no use worrying about who I'll use tonight. They'll still die." he told me. I tried removing myself from his arms but he wouldn't let me up.
"Nik, I need to eat something." I told him.
"Alright. I'll get you something just lay here with me for a while." he told me and I nodded my head and we laid there.
"How will the sacrifice go?" I asked him.
"Why do you want to know?" he asked me.
"Just curious about it." I told him.
"Maddox will channel the moon to destroy the spell with the moonstone. Then I'll kill the werewolf, then the vampire, then I'll drain Elena of her blood." he told me.
"Is there no way to save her? To break the curse but keep her alive?" I asked him.
"Elijah once had a way of saving Katarina, I'm sure he'll use it to save your sister." he told me and my hope rose.
"Do you believe that?" I asked him.
"If not him then one of the Salvatore boys will." he said.
"Thank you." I told him, smiling.
"For what?" he asked me.
"Trying to give me hope where there is none." I told him and he held me tighter.
"I'll go prepare you some food. You should get up and get dressed, I had Greta bring some clothes for you." he said getting up and leaving the room. I got up and dressed then left the room and ate the eggs Nik had made me. "Hurry, I want to give a warning to the Salvatore boys." he told me. I finished my food and we left.
When we got to the grill I saw Damon and Ric at the bar. Nik held his hand out for me and I took it as we walked their way.
"I'll have the same." Ric told the bartender.
"I screwed up." Damon told him.
"Yeah. Yeah, you did." Ric told him.
"Gentlemen? Why so glum?" Nik asked them, smirking. Ric and Damon looked at us, both sets of eyes glancing at me.
"Ugh. Klaus, I presume." Damon said.
"In the flesh." Nik told him before looking at Ric. "Thanks for the loaner, mate." Damon got up and stood between them.
"Any reason you stopped by to say hi?" Damon asked him.
"I'm told you and your brother fancy my doppelgängers. Just thought I'd remind you to not do anything you'll regret." Nik told him holdig my hand slightly tighter.
"Ha. Thanks for the advice. I don't suppose I could talk you into a postponement, by any chance, huh?" Damon asked him.
"You are kidding?" Nik asked him. "He is kidding, right?"
"No, not really." I told him.
"I mean, come on, what's one month in the whole grand scheme of things?" Damon asked him.
"Let me be clear... I have my vampire. I have my werewolf. I have everything I need. The ritual will happen tonight. So if you want to live to see tomorrow, don't screw it up." Nik told him before he left pulling me behind him.
"Where are we going?" I asked him.
"You'll see." he told me, smiling.
"That's descriptive." I told him.
"I want to take you far away from here. So you'll be safe from heartbreak." he told me and I smiled lightly.
"No matter where I go, I'll always have my heart broken. My sister is going to die tonight so my boyfriend can be a hybrid. Not exactly the happiest of sentences." I told him.
"So I'm still your boyfriend then?" he asked me and I smiled.
"I suppose you are. I either call you my boyfriend or my babys daddy which takes too long to say." I told him and he laughed lightly.
"Where do you want to go? Rome? London?" he asked me.
"How about we do all that after the baby is born hmmm?" I asked him.
"Sure, if that's what you want then that's what we'll do." he told me. He pulled me to him and we got into his car before we drove back to Ric's apartment.
When we walked in the apartment we saw Katherine making coffee.
"Everything ok?" she asked us.
"What have you been doing?" Nik asked her.
"Making coffee. Do you want some?" she asked him. He rushed over to her and strangled her.
"Tell me what you've been doing." he compeled.
"Making coffee." she told him. He released her and she held her neck. She began walking away from him but he stopped her.
"Wait. Take off your bracelet." he ordered her. She turned and took it off, giving it to him. "Now, I want you... to walk over to the window and stand in the sunlight."
"But she'll burn." I said walking up to him.
"She doesn't have a choice." he told me. She turned and walked into the sunlight. I watched as her skin began to burn.
"Please Nik, don't kill her." I begged him as she screamed. Nik smiled at her pain and let her burn for a moment.
"That's enough." he told her and she ran over to the corner of the room, in the shadows. I grabbed her bracelet from him and put it back on her wrist as he walked over to us. "Guess I was wrong. All right, then. I need you to do something for me."
Nik and I watched as Stefan parked his car. When he had Katherine do whatever he needed her to go he had me go to another room so I wouldn't know what was happening. I watched Stefan get out of his car and open the door for Elena.
"Thanks for today." I heard her say. I saw him put himself in front of Elena and they both turned their heads to us.
"You got me all nervous. I thought maybe you'd done something stupid. You ready, my dear?" Nik asked her.
"I'm ready." Elena said after a moment. She walked towards us but Stefan stopped her with tears in his eyes.
"No." Stefan told her.
"I wouldn't. No reason for you to die, too." Nik told him. she turned around and looked at Stefan but he couldn't stop looking at us.
"No. Stefan, hey, hey, it's fine, it's fine. I'll go. No one needs to get hurt. There's no reason for you to get hurt." I looked away from them to give them some privacy.
"I love you." she told him.
"I love you." Nik held my hand tightly. and he held me to him.
"Close your eyes. Close your eyes." I turned and saw him close his eyes as she pulled away from him slowly. She walked to us and took Nik's hand then we were gone.
Nik took us to a point I couldn't recognize in the dark.
"Greta." Greta walked forward to us and smiled, trying to flirt with Nik... again. "Take them and prepare. I'll be there shortly."
"Of course." Greta told him. She began to walk off with Elena behind her but I stayed with Nik.
"Nik, please. Isn't there a way to save her?" I asked him. He just rushed away from me and I turned to follow Greta and Elena.
"Where are we going?" I asked her.
"This way." Greta told us.
"You're Luka's sister, aren't you? We heard about you. He and your father were looking for you." Elena told her.
"Well, they were wasting their time. I wasn't lost." Greta told Elena as I tripped on a rock. Elena managed to catch me before I fell down and the two of us continued walking.
"God, I can't see anything." Elena told her. Greta lit a fire all around us and we saw someone on the ground. Elena and I ran to her and turned her over. Jenna.
"Jenna? Jenna, Jenna! Jenna? Hey, hey, Jenna! Jenna!" Elena and I called out to her. Elena felt for a pulse and began crying.
"Oh, my God. No. Jenna! No!" Elena begged for her to wake up and turned to Greta.
"He killed her? Why?" I asked her.
"I did everything that he asked." Elena told her then Jenna jumped up, gasping for breath.
"She's not dead. She's in transition."
