Wooden steps of the beach staircase cut uncomfortably in his lower back when Levi relaxed and leaned over it. Nifa was kneeling on the sand in between his widespread legs; she unbuttoned his fly and pulled his jeans down,

Once he was done, he pulled out of Nifa's mouth, and before collapsing on the stairs, he reached for a tissue to wrap his sad, spent condom in.

She settled next to him, and he ran his palm over her cheek before kissing her impulsively. It had to take her by a surprise, as she cooed softly when he slid his tongue in between her latex-tasting lips.

Holding a glass of whiskey, Erwin flopped into the comfy cushions of the outdoor sofa on his wooden deck. The night was warm; the ocean growled gently in the dark. He closed his eyes before taking a sip, letting the gentle breeze ruffle his hair. Corners of his lips creased with a sudden smile, when his mind wandered, reminiscing his afternoon horse riding date with Historia. Everything was going perfectly; he couldn't complain.

There was a sudden noise down below the bluff that got Erwin's attention, snapping him out of his daydreaming. He was able to distinguish faint voices at the bottom of his stairwell. It was a private access beach, but it connected to the public one, and people had been passing by before. Never at this hour, though. The voices hadn't moved, and Erwin felt both slightly annoyed and curious. Was somebody going to assault his house? With all the security of the gated community? No, it was probably just some tourists making a resting stop during an evening walk on the beach.

He leaned back into the cushions again, trying to ignore the voices. They would go away soon. Even after a while, the sounds were still there, though, and they became, how to call it best, indicatively obscene. Were his private beach crushers having sex on 'his' staircase?

Erwin sighed, and he took another sip of his whiskey. The noise didn't stop, and curiosity took over him. He rose to his feet and moved, on his tiptoes, to the railing at the edge of the deck, from where he got the best view of the entrance to the stairs at the beach. He leaned over, his eyes adjusting to see in the darkness. Blurry silhouettes of people down the stairs became clearer.

Indeed… there was a couple in a compromising position at the lowest steps of the staircase. Were they…? No way. Erwin stuck his head even further out. It definitely seemed like an ideal position for giving head. He swallowed hard and took a step back, but a nudge of nosiness pushed him back to the railing.

He craned his neck to get a better sight… and he froze. He'd regretted his curiosity almost immediately.

Was that… It definitely was.

The man that was getting his dick blown was no one else but Levi. Erwin's heart pounded loud and his throat closed, flooded with strange emotions.

When Erwin opened his eyes, steading his breath, the voices from the beach had been gone, and the only sounds were the murmur of the waves and the wild pounding of his heart. He let out a deep breath, backing out from the deck to the comfort of his house.

Erwin crawled into his bed and snuggled into expensive silky sheets, totally wasted. He closed his eyes and delicate visions of Historia, and more primal of Levi flashed in front of his mind. He sighed. When he finally drifted off to sleep, it was with a nagging feeling that things were getting more complicated than he had ever wanted them to be.

On the garden deck Historia, curled up comfortably in a wicker chair, was reading under the dim outdoor lighting. Levi stepped through the glass sliding door into the cool of the evening.

"Was out on a walk," he said and hesitated when she raised her head from over her book. "With Nifa. Everything all right here?"

"Yeah," she said.

"I should really do some improvements to the lights here," he murmured under his nose. "But you, take better care of your eyes. Anyway, good night."

She giggled.

"Good night."

He was already halfway back to the house when he heard her voice again.

"Have you really called today over a 2-hour drive to Rockaway a quick trip to the beach?"

Levi turned, and their eyes met in the darkness

"Walk with me," Levi said, lowering his voice. They made it in silence to the narrow stone pathway leading to the wooden beach stairwell. The routine they had kept whenever they'd wanted to talk without the possibility of the children overhearing them.

"You've wanted to take the two of them, well, initially only Jean, for the half-day trip down to New York. Isn't it a bit much as a grief processing bonding time?" she asked when they were already halfway down the pathway, her flip-flops making a clacking sound on the solid stones.

"Taking Jean to the beach has never been the main reason. I am going to New York anyway, to meet Hange's friend, a lawyer. About Mikasa."

"A lawyer?! Does it mean she wants to emancipate?" Despite the darkness, Levi heard an excited smile reflected in her tone.

"Hold your horses. It's just testing the grounds, and I can't exactly do it openly here. But I am optimistic," he said and paused as they reached the end of the pathway, and were standing now on the wooden top of the stairwell overlooking the ocean. Levi took a deep breath of the salty air. "It's the same lawyer that has handled Onyankopon's issues with the DACA. Successfully. I thought we could make a detour to the beach on the way back. I haven't been to the Rockaways in ages."

The incoming swell crashed against the shore with a muffled roar, and they watched white crests of small waves rolling ahead of them.

"Or we could take a van, and make it a day-long family trip, too," he said after a while, "it sounds like fun. Or I could take Armin and Connie… like men only expedition or something."

Historia's palm tightened at his arm, her fingers kneaded his muscles.

"You know what… let us think about the family trip thing, it's not a bad idea… but I don't think taking just Armin and Connie is."

"You don't?"

"I think Eren wanted to tag along as he needs to talk to you about something… or someone." There was a hint of caring amusement hidden in Historia's voice, and Levi's eyes widened.

"You don't think…"

"That's exactly what I think," she said with a soft chuckle, "I think Eren's crushing on Armin and wants to talk to you about it."

Levi let out the air through his teeth and shook his head. Right, kids were in 'that' age already. Good luck to us with that.
