I sat on the couch watching as Mason had tortured Damon. Well, I say torture all he did was put a fireplace stoker in his chest and he tossed his ring to the ground.
"Oh, you got to be kidding me." Damon said once he came to.
"Hurts, doesn't it?" I heard Mason ask him. For some reason Damon couldn't hear him and I could. Why, I have no idea but here we are.
"About time your awake." I told him and he gave me a confused look.
"Did you do this?" he asked me.
"Yes, I knocked you out then drug your unconsious form to a chair, tied you up and shoved a stoker in you, all this while carrying my unborn son." I told him sarcastically.
"Oh, Stefan." Damon called his brother. I say Stefan lean against the wall and laugh quietly at him. "Low blow, Stefan. Low blow."
"Stefan didn't do this." I told him and he gave me a look.
"What the hell happened to you?" Stefan asked him.
"Whatever twisted ripper game this is, leave me out of it." Damon told his baby brother.
"I didn't do this." Stefan told him, walking into the room and looking at what held his brother to the chair.
"Quit screwing around!" Damon told him.
"I didn't." Stefan said while checking out the chains. "It's pretty messed up though, isn't it?"
"Yep." Damon agreed. Stefan removed the iron stick and Damon screamed. Stefan then began to remove the chains but stopped and left after patting his shoulder.
"Talk about brotherly love." I said, watching Stefan leave.
"Shut up." Damon told me before calling after his brother. "Yeah, not to worry. I'll just untangle myself." I then watched Mason open the curtains so the sunlight could enter the room. While I enjoyed the warmth Damon, without his daylight ring, screamed in pain.
"Give me a minute to get up and I'll help you." I told him, wiggling myself off the couch.
"Don't you dare." Mason told me. I ignored him and picked up the ring and put it on his finger. His skin healed and I untied the chains off him the best I could and he did the rest.
"Come on. We have a witch to find." he told me. I jumped into the car with Damon and we went off to find Bonnie.
"Greetings, blondie. Witchy." he said when he cut them off from walking across the street. They were helping with the illumination ceremony.
"Hey guys." I said to them.
"Nikky? What are you doing with Damon?" Caroline asked me.
"I think you got your voodoo wires all crossed when you got rid of Vicki Donovan." Damon said ignoring us.
"What do you mean, why?" Bonnie asked him.
"Because I'm pretty sure I just got spit-roasted by Mason Lockwood's ghost." Damon told her.
"Oh, I know you did." I told him and he gave me an annoyed look.
"What?" Bonnie asked us.
"And why would you think that?" Caroline asked us.
"Maybe because he chained me to a chair and shoved a hot poker in my chest. Let's just say I'm having déjà vu." Damon told them and Caroline looked at Bonnie.
"I saw him." I told them.
"How could you see him if he's a ghost?" Bonnie asked me.
"I have no idea." I told her.
"I thought you said that ghosts couldn't physically interact with people." Caroline said to Bonnie.
"They can't." Bonnie said.
"Yeah, well, I don't have time for a vengeful Lockwood. When I kill someone, they're supposed to stay dead. Whatever you screwed up, fix it." Damon told her before driving away from them.
"Where are we going?" I asked him.
"I need a drink." he told me and I rolled my eyes.
"You always do." I mumbled, knowing he would hear me.
"Be nice, Mom." he told me and I glared at him.
"I am not your mother." I said.
"No, but you will be a mother soon. Maybe you should start acting like one." he told me.
"Can't be a mother to you, Damon. You're a bit too old to be my kid." I joked with him and he smirked. When we arrived at the Grill we saw Ric going inside. Damon parked and we got out and went inside before going to Alaric.
"You know, I've had enough vampires today, thanks." He told us.
"Hey." I said to him.
"You're carrying a baby who father is a vampire. Get over it." he told me.
"Ouch." I said.
"Oh, come on. Have a drink with us. We've got trouble." Damon told him.
"No, you've got trouble." Alaric told him. "See, we're not a team. You tried to kill me. All right? We're not friends. I don't like you anymore."
"Ah! But remember back when you liked me and we conspired to kill Uncle werewolf Mason Lockwood?" Damon asked him.
"Yeah, and?" Ric asked.
"I think he's still a little pissed." Damon told him and we walked to the bar. They boys both ordered drinks and I got a water. When our drinks arrived Damon's was taken and we all turned to see who it was.
"Mason." Ric said.
"God, I miss whisky." Mason said, drinking the whisky in one go before crashing the glass on Damon's forehead. Damon looked to Ric with an annoyed face.
"Told ya." My phone suddenly went off at the same time as Damon's and I looked down at it. I'd received a text from Bonnie about how to send the ghosts away she only needed one thing: Elena's necklace.
"I am never going to hear the end of that damn necklace." Damon said as Mason ordered another drink.
"One of you will pay for this, right?" he asked the boys. "Cheers."
"Let's get to it. I killed you. You want revenge. Get in line." Damon told him.
"Trust me, it's a long one." I said and Damon gave me a look.
"Actually, I want an apology." Mason said and Ric and I burst out laughing.
"Good luck with that." Ric told him.
"That's an even longer line." I chimed in.
"Don't you have a family to haunt? You know your nephew has turned into a mindless hybrid Minion." Damon said to him.
"That's why I'm here. To help Tyler." Mason told us.
"Well, sorry to break it to you, buddy, but Tyler can't be helped. At least not while Klaus is alive. Which is, like, always." Damon said giving me a look. I glared at him before Mason started talking again.
"Not necessarily. Not if you found a weapon that could kill him." Mason told him.
"There is no weapon that..." Damon said before we saw Mason's face. "What do you know?"
"I know you need to apologize." Mason told him.
"You got to be kidding me." Damon said.
"Are you incapable of remorse?" Ric asked him. "Just apologize!"
"You're right. I didn't have to kill you. I do a lot of things I don't have to do." Damon said and Mason laughed at him.
"That's good enough." Mason said getting up. "Meet me at the old Lockwood cellar. Bring a shovel. Bring the girl."
"Why me?" I asked him.
"You're going to need to see this." he told me before he started walking away.
"Are you going to bury us alive?" Damon asked him.
"Don't tempt me." Mason joked before he left.
A short time later we did as we were told and showed up at the old Lockwood Cellar with a shovel.
"All this walking is going to make me go into premature labor." I told them as we arrived. We saw Mason lighting a lantern in front of us.
"I'm surprised you two showed." Mason said to us.
"You put a snag in my only other Klaus lead. So I'd say I'm highly motivated." Damon told him.
"Mikael?" Mason asked us. "Yeah. That didn't turn out so great, did it?"
"How do you know so much about what's going on?" I asked him.
"There's not much to do on the other side but sit around and watch other people screw things up." he told us.
"What are we looking for?" Damon asked.
"There's an old Lockwood family legend about a weapon that can kill an original vampire. Like the rest of their secrets, they kept it buried." Mason said as he grabbed the shovel from Damon. He tried to break the wall but it wasn't working.
"Oh, come on, give me the thing. Move." Damon told him. He took the shovel and used his vampire strength to break the wall quickly. We all looked into the hole to see darkness.
"Go for it." Mason told us.
"Protective men first." I told them.
"Dead werewolves first." Damon said.
"What, you think I'm leading you guys into a trap?" Mason asked him.
"The thought crossed my mind." Damon told him. Mason entered the hole and Damon helped me through before following me. "I'm still waiting for the other shoe to drop. Your motives are deceptively pure." Damon said as we walked down the corridor.
"You talk the talk, but I know you'll do anything for your brother. You won't screw me over as long as we have the same agenda." Mason told him.
"But we don't all have the same agenda." I reminded them. "I want to protect what family I have left. That includes Nik."
"So why did you come? To find out what we know then tell him?" Damon asked me.
"I protect my family. That includes Elena, Jeremy, Ric and Jenna. If Nik finds out what we know here then that might put them at risk." I told him.
"Family first, huh?" Damon asked me.
"Always. That family also includes Nik and Rebekah now." I reminded him again. He just looked at me before walking ahead of me.
"So, I'm supposed to believe you two aren't going to screw me over?" Damon asked us. We stopped at a crossroads and looked down both directions. "All right. Which way?"
"I don't know. Flip a coin." Mason guessed.
"Aren't you supposed to be all-knowing?" Damon asked him.
"I'm a ghost. I'm not God. Go left." Mason suggested. Damon looked down the left passageway and went right. "Or not... You have trust issues. Anyone ever tell you that?" Damon ignored him and continued walking until suddenly stakes go through his body.
"Damon!" I quickly went to him and tried to help him out. He tried to pull them out of him but they were covered in vervain.
"Yo. Help a brother out? Mason?" Damon called to him. I turned to see him gone.
"Damn it." I continued trying to pull the stakes out of Damon.
"Oh, I'm having a bad day." Damon said.
"You think?" I asked him sarcastically.
"Not helping." he told me.
"Sorry. Thought you might need this." Mason said, showing up with the shovel. He started to break the stakes with the shovel and helped remove them. "You're welcome."
"What's your game, man? I killed you. I jammed my fist into your chest. I ripped your heart out. There's no way this whole buddy-trust act is real." Damon told him.
"You know what the other side is like? We're all alone. We watch the people we left behind and we regret our decisions. That's it. Look, I can't change what happened to me. But maybe I can change what happens to Tyler. I don't need revenge, Damon. I need redemption." Mason told him. He turned and lead us through the caverns.
"God! This is not happening." Damon said. I turned to see him behind us.
"What now?" Mason asked him.
"I can't get through. It's like I'm not invited in. Wait!" Damon said as we continued walking.
"We're not stopping just 'cause you're stuck. I'll let you know what we find. And don't worry, I'll take care of Nikky." Mason told him.
"I'll take care of myself." I told him.
"Yeah, but..." Damon tried stopping.
"Look, Damon. you're just going to have to trust us." I told him. "Both of us." Mason lifted the lantern and we took a good look at the walls. "Oh, my god."
"What? What'd you find?" Damon asked.
"It's in..." Suddenly the lantern fell and shattered, ruining my light. I turned to look for Mason, but I couldn't find him.
"Mason?" I called for him. "Damon, he's gone."
"No, no, no, no. No, where'd you go? Mason, Mason!" Damon called for him. "Damn it. Come on. Let's get Ric down here." he told me. I returned to him and we made our way back to the beginning of the cavern.
We waited in silence until Ric showed up.
"You're here. It's about time." Damon told Ric.
"Didn't have anyone else to call?" Ric asked him.
"No, actually, I don't. 'Cause I need a non-vampire to get in the cave, and other than Elena and Nikky, you're pretty much the only one I trust." Damon told him.
"Well, you have a crappy way of showing that." Ric told him. "You had Nikky with you, why didn't you just get her to tell you what she saw."
"Because she didn't bring a flashlight and can't see in the pitch black. Also, right here." I told him.
"Look, if Mason Lockwood can get over the fact that I killed him, can't you cut me a little slack, Ric?" Damon asked him.
"I shouldn't have to get over it. I was your friend, Damon. You shouldn't have done it in the first place." Ric told him.
"He's right." I told him.
"Stay out of it. Sometimes... I do things I don't have to do." Damon said.
"You're going to recycle that same crap ass apology you gave Mason Lockwood?" Ric asked him.
"Yeah. Well... I didn't mean it with him." Damon said smirking at him. Ric gave him a look before following me into the hole.
"So what's in there?" Damon asked when we got back to where we'd seen the pictures on the walls. "Ric. Ric?"
"We found something." Ric told him.
"What is it?" Damon asked again.
"No idea."
