When I got home I walked into the living room to see Nik working on an abstract painting on an easel.
"I'm home." I told him. "Where's Nikolas?" I asked looking around.
"Welcome home, love." he said stopping his painting and moving to me giving me a quick peck before going back to his painting. "Nikolas is sleeping upstairs." he motioned to the baby monitor with video so I could see him. "Did you have an eventful trip?"
"Yes. We saw Kol before and after Mary Porter was staked to the wall of her home." I said sitting on the couch close to him.
"Yes, I meant to thank you for that bit of information on her whereabouts." he said smirking at me.
"Your welcome." I turned as Bekah walked in towards us. "Welcome home Bekah."
"What took you so long?" Nik asked her.
"Alaric didn't want to hand over the stake." she told us before showing us the stake. "Luckily I'm quite the charmer."
"That's it?" I asked her.
"The last of the white oak stakes that can kill us. Do you want to do the honors or shall I?" she asked him. Nik put his paintbrush down and took the stake from her and threw it into the flames burning in the fireplace. The flames flared up around the stake and I smiled. "Well that's that then."
"Pack your bags, we're leaving." Nik told us.
"Today?" I asked him.
"Why not? There's nothing keeping us here. We'll grab the doppelgänger and be off by sunset." he told us.
"But tonight is the decade dance." Bekah reminded him.
"So?" Nik asked her.
"So, I'm head of the committee, we have to go." she complained to him.
"I'm not going to any dance." Nik told him.
"I want to go." I told him, helping Bekah.
"That means nothing to me." he told us.
"Please, I have big plans for tonight. Just go for us." Bekah asked him. He looked at the two of us and sighed.
"Okay, fine. One last hoorah." he agreed.
"One last hoorah, Nik." she said smiling.
"I'm going to need to raid your wardrobes. I wasn't exactly around back then." I said getting up.
"Hop to it then." he told me. I walked to him and gave him a kiss before smiling at them before leaving. I went through Nik and Bekah's closets until I found a white flapper dress, a small black sheer jacket and a pair of heels. I grabbed some long white pearls and looped them around my neck. (Think Katherine's outfit from the 20s.)
When Nik and I got to the gym the party is in full swing with a lot of students were dancing to the music. I parted from Nik and walked to a familiar face.
"What are you doing here?" I asked him.
"I never could resist a party. Want to dance?" Tyler asked me and I nodded.
"Why not?" I asked, taking his offered hand. We danced to the song.
"did you do it?" I asked him.
"Yep. Turned over and over and over until I felt like myself again. All thanks to you." he told me and I smiled.
"No, not thanks to me. You chose this so you wouldn't hurt Caroline." I reminded him.
"Not just Caroline." he told me and I gave him a confused look.
"What do you mean?" I asked him but he wasn't able to answer because of Caroline joining us.
"Are you crazy? If Klaus sees you?" she asked her boyfriend.
"What's he gonna do?" Tyler asked her.
"Tyler, this isn't a joke!" she told him.
"I can pretend I'm sired if I have to." he said.
"Tyler, this is dangerous." she said.
"I'm about to sweep you off your feet." he told her before sweeping Caroline off her feet and spinning her around making her laugh at him. I turned and saw Nik looking murderously at Tyler. I rolled my eyes and walked to him.
"That's enough." I told him.
"What do you mean?" he asked me.
"There's no need to be jealous of Tyler. I'm with you and I always will be. Until the day I die." I said smiling at him.
"Would you like to dance?" he asked me and my smile grew.
"Yes, I would." I said and he pulled me to him and danced like he would dance with a girl back then.
"You would've loved the 1920s, Nikky. The girls were reckless, sexy, fun. They literally used to dance until they dropped." he told me and I laughed.
"I don't suppose that had anything to do with their dance partners." I said and he smiled at me.
"Are you ready to leave with me tomorrow?" he asked me.
"Yes. We just have to get Nikolas ready. He has so many things for a baby." I said and he smiled at me.
"Of course he does. You spoil him." he told me and I smiled.
"I'm not the only one." I told him.
"Let's go." he told me before pulling me off the dance floor and walking outside. He pulled out his phone and called someone. "Rebekah, call me back immediately! I only came to this ridiculous dance because you begged me to and now you're nowhere to be found." He hung up and stopped and looked down. I followed his gaze and looked down to see salt. "What is this?" he asked.
"Why is there salt all over the ground?" I asked.
"Your mother is back." I turned to see Stefan.
"You've got to be kidding me."
We all stood in a classroom with several candles lit and Bonnie chanting.
"She does this all the time, right?" her boyfriend, Jamie, asked.
"Yes." I told him.
"What's taking so long?! All boundary spells have a loop hole." Nik said.
"Give her time, Nik." I told him as Matt entered.
"People are walking right out of the dance, past the barrier." Matt told us.
"Matt, Nikky and I can leave, we can stop Esther ourselves. We just gotta find out where she is." Jer suggested.
"Nicole's not going anywhere." Nik said.
"It's suicide, Jeremy." Stefan told him. Nik suddenly grabbed Jamie by the throat and started to strangle him.
"Nik, put him down!" I ordered.
"Suicide would be disappointing me! Now work your magic, witch or I'll start killing people you fancy." Nik warned her.
"Let him go!" Bonnie ordered.
"Not until you get us out of here." Nik told her.
"Ah, don't be stupid, Klaus. Bonnie doesn't give a damn about us. The only reason she's helping us right now is to save Caroline and Tyler. You start killing the people she cares about, she'll tell us all to go to hell." Nik looked from Stefan to Bonnie to me and let go of Jamie. Bonnie and I left the classroom for another one where she quickly grabbed a map from the wall and put it on the desk and turned on the table lamp. I looked at the doorway as Nik and Damon entered.
"Ready?" Damon asked and I nodded my head.
"I have to do this with you two lurking over me?" Bonnie asked them.
"You're still mad at me for what happened to Abby. Let me apologize; I'm sorry Elijah forced us to turn your mother into a vampire to save Elena's life. Didn't exactly have a choice." Damon told her.
"There's always a choice. Whenever you make one someone else suffers." Bonnie told him.
"Let's cut the dramatics and begin, shall we?" Nik asked her. Bonnie took a knife and I gave her my hand. She cut into my palm and I let the blood fall onto the map when Bonnie started chanting. I pulled my hand back as the blood formed a circular pool the didn't move.
"Esther is fighting me." Bonnie told us.
"Esther couldn't possibly have this much power. Unless she's channelling something." Nik told us.
"A hotspot?" Bonnie asked.
"Get the humans ready, I know where she is." Nik said before pulling me out with him. He gave me a little blood so my hand could heal and we moved on. so he could tell us where to go. "You are not going." he told me.
"I am." I said.
"I'm not letting the mother of my child go where Esther is powerful." he said.
"And I'm not letting you stop me. I'm going to Jeremy and Matt. End of discussion." I said.
"Let them die first." he told me and I rolled my eyes before kissing him.
"Always the hero." I said sarcastically before leaving. We quickly and quietly made our way to the cemetery. as we walked I heard someone step on a twig and cringed. I watched as Esther stepped out of the tomb and rose holding a gun at her as the boys did the same with their weapons.
"Don't move!" Matt shouted.
"Hello Esther." I greeted her.
"Where's Elena?" Jer demanded and Elena walked out of the tomb.
"Jeremy! Nicole!" she called looking at us shocked.
"Let her go." Jer demanded.
"How foolish of you, to risk your lives in defense of those who will kill you. But if that is your choice." Ester told us before she did something making us all point our weapons at each other.
"Matt! Nicole! Drop your guns!" Jer said in a panic. I was holding my gun at Jer who held his crossbow at Matt who held his gun at me.
"I can't! I'm not controlling it!" Matt told him.
"Ester! Don't do this!" I called to her.
"Esther stop it!" Elena begged. Suddenly Esther screamed in pain and fell to the floor, dead, showing Ric behind her.
"Oh my god. Where's my ring? Tell me what happened." he told us. Nik soon came and wrapped his arm around my waist, picked up his mothers body and we left. Nik and I walked into the coffin room and put his mothers body in a coffin. He opened a closed coffin to reveal Bekah with a dagger in her heart. He pulled out the dagger and put it on a table before going to speak to Esther's body.
"Your trap failed, mother. I live and I will go on living. Let your beloved spirits try to preserve you again, I dare you to come after me! I will build an army so big, no one will ever touch me. My survival will haunt you through eternity. You will never destroy me!" Nik shouted at her.
"Come Nik. Let's get some sleep." I said, holding his hand and going to bed.
