I drove to a bar where Nik told me he was. When I walked in the bar I saw Jeremy, Matt, Damon and Nik surrounded by the dead.
"Looks like a party." I said walking to the men.
"Nicole? What are you doing here?" Jeremy asked me.
"Seeing how things were coming along. I see you turned everyone already." I said smiling up at Nik.
"You're later than I expected." He told me.
"Bekah needed my help with something today." I told him.
"Ah, yes. Dear Rebekah. But as I was telling your little brother they're in transition." Nik said before turning to Jeremy. "Killing them is your job." The two human boys looked to Damon for answers.
"You said you were going to convince Klaus to do this another way!" Jeremy reminded Damon.
"Well, I thought about it, and then I realized his idea was better." Damon told him. Nik smiled at the three as Jeremy stared at Damon in disbelief.
"No way. I'm not doing this." Jeremy refused.
"What makes you think you have a choice?" Nik asked him.
"You have to kill vampires to complete the hunter's mark. Mark equals cure. You're in a bar full of almost vampires, so get your hunt on." Damon told him.
"Screw you. You said I wouldn't have to kill any innocent people." Jeremy told him.
"Jeremy, they're not people." Damon reminded him.
"Enough! Have at it, or else." Nik threatened him.
"I don't take orders from you, dick." Jeremy told him before throwing the stake to the ground. "Hunters can't be compelled." Nik laughed at Jeremy's words.
"You're right. I can't compel you. But if your conscience is getting in the way, then allow me to make this easy for you. Because, I can compel them." Nik clarified as some of the new vampires stood behind him. "I'm gonna give you a two-minute head start. Then I'm gonna send every vampire in here after you. You kill them, or they kill your friend...Matt."
"Wait a second!" Matt told him.
"No, no. You turn them, he kills them. That was the deal, Klaus." Damon reminded him.
"I'm taking artistic license." Nik told Damon joining me by my side again.
"You know he can't take them all on at the same time." Damon told him.
"Nonsense." I said. "He's a Hunter and a Gilbert."
"And with you as his coach, he'll be fine. It's Matt I'm worried about." Nik told him.
"Ah...Jeremy, go get the weapons out of the car. I'll be right behind you." Jeremy turned and ran out of the bar at Damon's orders. "Both of you." Damon told Matt who soon followed the younger man.
"If I hear an engine start, I'll kill Matt myself!" Nik called after them.
"How can you be okay with this?" Damon asked me.
"Should I not be?" I asked him.
"He's throwing your brother out to drown!" Damon said and I smiled at him.
"Then you better hurry before he drowns and you have to explain to Elena why you couldn't protect him." I told him. Damon gave me a look before leaving the bar and going for the two human boys. Once the new vampires were up and ready to hunt Nik compelled them all to attack Matt and they were off.
"How was your day love?" he asked me as we made our way back out to my car.
"Well I helped Bekah get caught up with what was going on while watching Stefan find out Elena slept with Damon." I told him and he nodded with a smile on his face.
"You woke my dear sister, I imagine?" he asked me and I nodded.
"Yes, I thought she'd want her try at the race for the cure." I told him.
"I didn't want her awake." He told me and I gave him a look.
"One: You owe me for compelling me to forget about the cure. Two: Why not let her take the cure and have a normal human life?" I asked him. "This is what she wants; to live and die as a human. Why should we hold her back?" He thought about my words for a moment before opening my car door for me.
"Get in so we can go home." He said and I sighed before getting in my car and leaving for home.
When I got back to the manor an unknown car was waiting for us. I stepped out as Nik pulled up and pulled out my gun. He sped over into the house while I was stuck using human speed. When I reached the family room I saw Kol holding a sleeping Nikolas and the compelled babysitter dead on the floor. I sighed and put away my gun.
"Really?" I asked him going to the vampire and my son. "You couldn't clean up your mess before touching my son?" I took him from Kol and unwrapped the bloody blanket from him gently.
"He started crying while I was eating." He said with his usual smirk on his face.
"Clean up before touching him again. Thank you." I said putting him back inside the play pen the dead woman had set up in the room.
"What are you doing here?" Nik asked him.
"Didn't your beloved tell you I was in town?" Kol asked him and Nik glanced at me.
"He was helping Bekah, until he killed the only person who'd been to where the cure was." I said giving Kol a look.
"What?" Nik asked us.
"Professor Shane had been to where the cure is. Kol killed him because of this Silas guy." I explained.
"Silas?" Nik asked him.
"Yes, I told you about him once before in New Orleans." Kol reminded him.
"The bed time story about the big bad." Nik said smirking.
"So he's not real then?" I asked.
"He's real." Kol insisted. "And if he wakes he will kill us all."
"Just make sure to stay away from Jeremy until after his mark is complete." Nik told him.
"The mark that will lead you to the cure?" Kol asked him.
"Yes, and don't worry we will avoid Silas at all costs." I told him before picking Nikolas back up and walking upstairs with him for the night.
The next morning I got up, put on a robe and checked on Nikolas only to see he was gone from his crib. I immediately ran downstairs and sighed at the sight of Nik and Nikolas playing on the ground. I leaned on the entryway and smiled at the sight of Nikolas throwing something just out of his reach and Nik getting it for him with a gentle and happy smile.
"Are you going to watch us all day or join us?" Nik asked me finally turning to me.
"And ruin the perfect moment?" I asked him before sitting on the floor next to them. "Did you turn off my alarm?"
"I felt like you could use the sleep." He told me. "It seems as though you've been angry about something. Want to talk?"
"I just don't want to lose you. I nearly did when Alaric staked you and Bonnie desiccated you." I said putting my hand over his heart. He had healed as he always had but I could still see his body before he jumped from Tyler's body back to his own. "They tried to take you from me again, and I won't let that happen. I won't let that fear ever enter my mind again."
"It won't happen." He told me and I smiled at him before we shared a small kiss. Nikolas laughed and we parted before smiling down at him. "None of us will ever be separated from each other again."
"Then we have to make sure we keep our promise to Kol as well. We can't wake this Silas guy and we can destroy the cure except what little we need for Bekah." I told him.
"Why are you so determined to make my sister human?" he asked me.
"Nik, all she wants is to be human. To fall in love and have a family of her own. Why are you trying to stop her?" I asked him. He never gave me an answer when I got a call from Elena. "What does she want?" I questioned before answering the phone. "Hello?"
"I need you to do something for me." She told me.
"I'm not your slave and I'm not in love with you. Why should I help you?" I asked her.
"Because you're my sister." She said and I scoffed at her.
"Because I'm your sister I should do whatever you want me to do?" I asked her.
"You know that's not what I meant." She told me.
"Then what did you mean?" I asked her.
"Kol has Damon." She stated and I raised my eyebrow at Nik.
"Kol has Damon. Good for him. Damon needs a good kick up his backside." I said before putting a blanket over Nikolas' head. He pulled it off and I made a face at him making him laugh before repeating the cycle.
"Please. I need you talk to Klaus and get him to call Kol off Damon." She told me.
"First off you never answered my question as to why I should help you. Second, Damon isn't my problem. He's yours." I told her.
"Kol wants to kill Jeremy." She said.
"That I doubt. He'd suffer under the Hunter's curse torturing him until another Hunter awoke." I reminded her.
"That won't stop him from ripping off Jeremy's arms so the mark can't be completed." She said and I looked at Nik. He looked thoughtful for a moment before nodding.
"Come over. I'll arrange it so you can talk to him this afternoon." I told her
"No. It has to be now." She told me.
"This afternoon. I'll call before you can come over." I told her before hanging up. "Why did I just help her?"
"Kol is starting to be a problem for us if he keeps going after Jeremy." He told me before picking up Nikolas. I followed him to the kitchen where he placed Nikolas in his high chair and proceeded to give him his bottle. "I want her to beg us to help her retrieve her lover from my brother. Not as fun if she's over the phone." I thought about it for a moment and nodded.
"Ok, I see your point." I said. He took food from the fridge and proceeded to cook something for us.
"What are you making?" I asked him.
"Breakfast before we plan our attack on your sister and my brother." He said smirking. We enjoyed our cheese covered omelets before I dressed and we planned everything out a T. I called Elena telling her to come over and placed Nikolas' play pen in the room with us. I put some toys in the crib and we waited for Elena to arrive.
"Nicole?" I turned to see Elena entering the room behind a compelled woman. Nik sat in his armchair cross from the sofa where Elena was to sit. I sat on the arm of his chair as Elena sit down and Nikolas played next to us.
"A bit ironic, you coming to me for help. Weren't your friends just trying to bury me in a cement tomb leaving your sister and my son alone forever?" Nik asked her.
"This is your fault. You started this when you forced Jeremy to kill those vampires." Elena told him.
"And now my little brat of a brother has gone and made things worse. Well, he never did like Damon. I suppose I should do something, shouldn't I?" Nik asked her.
"Call him off, Klaus." Elena demanded.
"You are in no position to make demands, love. Whilst I'd like to cure you to make more hybrids, I do have other reasons for finding the cure, not the least of which is destroying it so you lot can't use it against me." Nik informed her.
"Whatever our differences, we want the same thing. Please, Klaus, I'm begging you." Elena begged.
"You do that a lot don't you?" I asked her.
"What do you mean?" she asked me.
"You do a lot of begging and batting your eyelashes to get whatever it is you want." I told her. "Perhaps you are more like Katherine than I am."
"You sided with him! How am I more like her when this is the side you chose?" she asked me appalled I would compare her to our ancestral mother.
"She did whatever she could do to get what she wants. You're not too far away from her on that front." I said. Nik smiled at the two of us before pulling out his phone and calling Kol.
"Little brother. Just two days home, and I'm told you've already gone and made a mess." Nik said to Kol when he answered the phone. Nikolas and I were the only ones who couldn't hear Kol's reply. "Those vampires were for my hunter." Nik listened to his response. "Where's Damon Salvatore?" Nik finally asked. "Yes. Well, you've had your fun. Now let him go and come home. Avoid any more trouble, or you'll find yourself back in a box." Nik threatened him. "On the contrary, I find nastiness to be essential whenever my siblings try to sabotage me. Listen closely, Kol. Stay away from the Gilbert boy. You understand?" Nik asked him before hanging up the phone.
"It's done. Now get out of my house." I told her.
"This isn't your house." She sniped at me. "This place belongs to him. Are you really stupid enough to believe he'll marry you and keep any promises he ever makes you?" she asked me.
"You're calling me stupid?" I asked her. "Who was the one who led on two men who both loved her and would do anything for her? Who led on Matt when you were in school? I have always been honest with my feelings towards Nik and he has with me. Now get your ass out of my house before I force you out." She quickly turned and left. Nik wrapped his arms around my waist trying to calm me down before taking my hand off my gun.
"Killing her won't help us in the end, love." He told me.
"I know. But I want her to suffer." I said.
"And she will. Once she is human we'll leave this town for good and never look back." He said and I turned in his arms and hugged him tightly.
Later in the day Bekah visited us bringing us bad news.
"Kol compelled Damon to kill Jeremy." She told us.
"What?" Nik asked furiously.
"He thinks we will bring Silas back to life if we find the cure." She told us.
"Then we need to put him down." I said knowing they knew what I meant. Nik went for his daggers when Bekah looked upstairs. She walked upstairs with me behind her to see Kol leaving a room.
"Going somewhere?" she asked him blocking his way out. "I would if I were you. If Damon kills the hunter, Nik will not be pleased."
"I told Nik I wouldn't touch the kid. I didn't." Kol told her smiling.
"Oh. Well, that was clever. I'm sure he'll really appreciate it." She said sarcastically. Kol pushed past her to leave but Bekah pulled out a dagger and pointed it at his back.
"You'd really dagger me?" he asked her fearfully.
"If I do, Damon's compulsion ends and this is all over." Bekah reminded him.
"And then you're no better than Niklaus. Daggering siblings when you disagree with them- Look at what this family has become. I mean, Elijah won't even show his face, he's so disgusted by our bickering. This cure has ruined us, and it hasn't even been found yet. Just imagine what would happen if it is." Kol said trying to get her on his side.
"This family was ruined long before we knew about the cure." She reminded him. He sped around to face Bekah and pointed the white oak stake at her heart. "Kol!" she said shocked.
"Kol put the stake down, please." I asked him.
"I won't let you raise Silas." Kol told me.
"We don't want to wake Silas." I reminded him. "We just want the cure for your sister." Nik rushed into the room and broke the two of them up.
"Enough of this foolishness. Put it down, Kol." Nik told him. Kol turned and ran out of the house using his vamp speed.
"He was going to kill me!" Bekah said freaking out.
"Well, then, I think you need a lesson in how to properly dagger a sibling." Nik said smirking at her.
"Burn in hell." She told him before leaving the house as well.
"Pack a bag for you and Nikolas." Nik told me.
"What? Why?" I asked him.
"We are taking our Hunter and leaving Mystic Falls now." He answered before leaving for our room.
"Shouldn't we grab him first?" I asked him. He thought about it for a moment before nodding and rushing out the door leaving me to pack.
