Nik and I walked into Bekah's house and waited for her to wake up when we saw Stefan open the door to her room.
"Leaving so soon?" Nik asked him. We woke up Bekah and she put on a robe before she started getting onto us.
"This is my place, Nik, and I don't appreciate you invading my privacy like some kind of creeping tom." She told him.
"Well, I apologize for breaking up this sordid little tryst, but I do have some urgent business. Or have you forgotten – our paranoid brother Kol is running around with the white oak stake and homicide on the brain?" he asked her.
"He tried to kill me last night. I didn't forget." She reminded him.
"Now he's trying to kill my brother with his brother and I have a problem with that." I said.
"Unfortunately he seems to have absconded with my set of daggers as well." Nik explained.
"Oh, poor Nik. How ever will you get your way without your precious daggers? They were so handy when you wanted to end a conversation with one of us!" Bekah said sarcastically.
"Kol's irrational fear of Silas has pushed him over the edge. We need to put him down before he does any more damage. Now, I know you have the last dagger, and I know you have some white ash, so hand it over." He ordered her.
"Mhm, and leave myself unprotected? You can file that request under 'no chance in hell.' Be gone by the time I have showered. Lurkers aren't welcome here, but their fiancée's are." She said smiling at me before she left for the shower.
"I need that dagger, Stefan. Talk some sense into her." Nik told him.
"Why don't you talk some sense into her? I'm headed home to play prison guard to Damon. He's on lockdown ever since Kol compelled him." Stefan informed us.
"You see? That's my point exactly. If you let Kol roam free, then Jeremy won't live to see his junior prom, and we can kiss our map to the cure goodbye. But if you help me dagger Kol, Damon will be uncompelled, Jeremy will live, and we'll all be on our merry way to a human Elena." Nik said.
"Means there's only one way to fix our problem." I said and they both looked at me before looking at each other.
The three of us walked into the cellar of the Boarding House and Stefan looked inside the window of one of the only doors.
"You coming to snap my neck again? Because I woke up feeling completely un-murderous, and I'm pretty sure that it's safe to set me free." Damon told his brother before he threw a vial of blood towards him. "Oh man, really? You practically bled me dry. At least spring for a bag or something. I'm thirsty." Stefan set a water bottle between the bars of the door. "Not exactly what I had in mind." I heard him get up, groaning, before moving towards to grab the water. When he got to the window he saw us standing next to Stefan.
"Hello, mate." Nik said smirking at him.
"What the hell are you two doing here?" he asked us and Nik smiled at him.
"I'm Babysitting while my dear fiancée is going with your brother." Nik told him.
"Oh." Was all he said.
"Give him a vial of blood every couple of hours, so he doesn't desiccate. If he gets too much strength back, or if he just annoys you, bleed him out again." Stefan explained.
"Silent treatment, huh? Is that your best shot?" Damon asked Stefan before turning to Nik. "He's still pissed at me for sleeping with Elena."
"You sure about that? 'Cause I saw him trying to sneak out of Rebekah's bed this morning, which would suggest to me that he's moved on." Nik told Damon and Stefan sighed.
"Well, well. Looks like my brother ripped out a page of my revenge-sex handbook." Damon said and I made a face.
"Disturbing." I said quietly.
"Well, why don't you two enjoy your little, uh, villain bonding time? We'll let you know when we get the dagger from Rebekah." Stefan said before the two of us left. We were walking down the hallway of his house when his phone started to ring. I looked on the screen to see Elena's name and sighed. He hesitated before answering it like I knew he would
"Damon's fine. I locked him up with all the creature comforts he deserves." Stefan told her as we walked out the door. "What? Is she okay?" he asked her. What happened? Did Kol do something else? "Yeah, Klaus has me trying to convince Rebekah to give up her dagger so he can take care of Kol." He told her. He looked shocked before looking back at the door. He then revved up his motorcycle, creating noise to cover the conversation. "What did you just say?" he asked her shocked at her words. "And then what, huh? Klaus, Nicole and Rebekah will kill every one of us out of spite. They may be dysfunctional bickering lunatics, but they stick together no matter what." He said looking at me. "Yeah, I can't do that." He told her. "All right, fine, but how do you plan to lure Kol in?" Kol? When he got off the phone with Elena he looked at me as though debating to tell me something or not. "Get on." He told me getting on his motorcycle. I got on the motorcycle behind him and held on. He told me what Elena had told him and we made a plan of our own. When we got to Bekah's house I made a quick call to an old friend of mine who owed me a favor. When I went inside after the help promised I saw Stefan leaning against the doorframe and Bakah looking through a rack of clothing.
"The colors, the fabrics... The eighties were just... tragic. You know, I think shoulder pads rival 17th-century puritan smocks for crimes against fashion." She told us.
"Looking for something to wear to the dance?" he asked her.
"Aye. Are you asking me to a date?" she asked him with a small smile on her face.
"Actually, it was canceled." He told her.
"New mayor thinks he can keep us safe from all the vampires in town by putting vervain in the water and giving us kiddos a new curfew." I told her.
"So why are you two here? Back for more dagger talk?" she asked and Stefan laughed at her.
"Not at the moment." I answered honestly.
"Somebody has some trust issues." He said.
"It's called a healthy skepticism. I know you were trying to sneak out this morning. I'm not stupid." She told him.
"Sorry, I'm... I'm still trying to get used to this." He told her.
"Do you regret it?" she asked him.
"No." he answered honestly.
"Do you want it to happen again?" she asked him.
"Maybe." He told her.
"Even if I don't give you the dagger?" she asked him.
"You think that I would sleep with you just to get the dagger?" Stefan asked her.
"Don't give me that innocent look. You've done plenty to me in the name of getting what you want. Well, I guess I should pack up these racks. Just another failed attempt at getting to a high school dance." She told him looking back to the clothes once more.
"Why do you care so much about a high school dance?" Stefan asked her.
"I don't. I was just bored." She told him.
"Right. Well, we can still go, if you want." He told her.
"Not if it's canceled, we can't." she said.
"Since when do you care about the rules?" he asked her.
"Come on where's that rebellious spirit we admire so much?" I asked her. She smiled and we kicked Stefan out of the room to get dressed. We got her into her little black dress and I wore a purple crop top with black tights, purple skirt and black pumps. Stefan picked me up and the three of us went to the high school and wandered to the gymnasium.
"I think I saw a horror movie that started just like this. Did you know they play movies on TV all night long now? Hundreds of them. So much better than those silly black-and-white picture shows we used to go to." Bekah told him as he turned on the lights and music making the two of us smile at each other.
"I dunno. I kinda miss the old ones. You got any requests for the DJ?" Stefan asked messing with his phone.
"I'll let you pick. Nothing cheesy." She warned him.
"Oh, that leaves out about half the decade." He told her.
"Then pick something from the good half of the decade." I told him with a smile. He smiled and plugged in his phone to the speakers.
"Hope you like The Cure." He told us and I gave him a look.
"Funny. So is everything about the eighties so... excessive?" she asked him.
"It had its charm. "Say Anything" – Lloyd Dobler standing outside of a bedroom window with a boombox over his head, desperately trying to get back the girl of his dreams; "Princess Bride" – Wesley slays giant rats for love; "The Breakfast Club" – one detention turns a bunch of outcasts into allies." He listed off.
""Princess Bride" and "The Breakfast Club" are still really popular today." I told her.
"So it was a decade of sentimental drivel, as well?" she asked him.
"Well, I was going to say love, friendship, the possibility of anything happening." He told her.
"From the sounds of it you would've loved it." I told her.
"And why is that?" she asked with a smile on her face.
"Because as much as we both hate to admit it, we care about those things." He told her before glancing at me. "We all do." He then pulled out a small box.
"That better not be a corsage. I loathe corsages." She told him. He smiled and opened the box and showed us a koala corsage.
"These were all the rage in the eighties." He told her and she laughed as he clipped it to her dress.
"Let's dance." He told her. She looked at me and I nodded to her. She deserved to be happy. She took his hand with a smile and they started dancing. I looked at my phone only to see one message on it.
Done. My debt is paid in full.
I smiled before looking back at the two vampires. Stefan looked at me and I nodded slightly to him. Now all we needed was the dagger.
Later on Bekah and I were playing with the balloons and dancing together laughing, just being teenage girls when Stefan walked in with alcohol in his hands.
"It's amazing what you can find stashed away in the teachers' lounge." He told us.
"High school sure did get better." I said taking it from him and taking a drink.
"This song is not as terrible as the other ones." She told him and I gave her the bottle.
"This song is the godfather of rock anthems, okay?" Stefan asked her.
"What's going on with you? You're...fun tonight." She said.
"I can't listen to this music without thinking of my best friend, Lexi. We spent most of the eighties together. I remember this one time she snuck us backstage and compelled half the band to do tequila shots with us before the show. She was fearless, kinda like you." Stefan told us.
"I remember Elena telling me about her." I said.
"So, you slept with her, too?" Bekah asked him and I laughed.
"No, it wasn't like that. I was just a better person when I was with her. I didn't think I'd ever feel that way again." He explained.
"Until Elena." I said, knowing where this conversation was going.
"Until Elena. And now, that's over." He said taking the bottle back and taking a drink.
"That look right there? That is why I don't let myself care." Bekah told him.
"Well, you can say that, but we both know it's not true." He told her when a balloon popped making the Stefan and I flinch.
"Don't worry. I'll protect you if Kol tracks his way to this abandoned dance." She told him pulling down her leg warmer and showing us the dagger. She covered it up and moved to where the speakers were. "I think I'll choose the next song." Stefan was quick to stop her and took a drink.
"No, you know what? I have a better idea." He said before taking the cups he'd provided us with and pointing to the hallway. "That way." Bekah and I left the gym leaving him in the gym.
"Well, are you coming?" Bekah called after him and soon he followed us.
We watched him slide down the hallway like the characters did in "The Breakfast Club."
"Like that." He told us and she laughed at him.
"This is ridiculous." She told him.
"Well, that's the whole point of The Breakfast Club slide. It's supposed to be ridiculous." He told her and she rushed at him with her vampire speed.
"Hey, that's cheating for us humans." I laughed making her turn and stick her tongue out at me.
"What is fun about hurtling down a hallway like a teenage imbecile?" she asked him.
"You're just gonna have to do it to find out." He told her. She smiled and sighed before turning and having another go at it at human speed. Her shoes squeaked against the floor and she didn't slide just stumbled towards me. "All right, it's the shoes. Take off the shoes, you'll be fine, okay?" Bekah looked at him before sighing and bending down to take the dagger out of her leg warmer. She walked to Stefan and held out the dagger.
"This is what you want, right?" she asked giving it to him. "Go ahead, take it. You're right. I do care. I want stupid koala corsages and a prom. I want to have kids with someone who loves me enough to stand outside my window with a stupid boombox. I want to be human. So let Klaus put down my brother. Let's go find the cure." Stefan looked behind me and I saw Matt looking to him for some sort of signal. I moved to the vampires and Stefan handed me the dagger. The spell was set.
"I'm sorry, Bekah. He's after my brother." I said looking to her apologetically.
"I understand. Now go." She told me and I quickly left for my old family home.
When I got to the house the door was kicked in and I could hear Kol talking to someone.
"Now, like I said, I don't fancy the hunter's curse, so I'm just going to chop of your arm. But don't worry, I'll heal you right up with a bit of blood after." He said and I snuck into the house with the dagger in my hand. I looked into the kitchen and saw Kol holding Jeremy's head against the counter. "Sorry about the sting. Now, which arm is it? Is it left or right? I'll just chop of both to be safe." Elena quickly moved past me and grabbed Kol making the cleaver Kol was going to take Jeremy's arms with miss and slice through one of the restraints instead. She slammed the cleaver into his chest and I made my way to Jeremy and helping with the second restraint. He rushed to the sink and grabbed the spray hose and sprayed Kol with the vervain water. Kol cried out in pain as the water hit him and Elena moved away from him. Elena took the white oak stake from Kol's jacket and threw it to Jeremy. I held out the dagger, giving him a choice in what weapon he used.
"Jeremy, now!" Elena caught the stake.
"No Jeremy! Don't use the stake. Use the dagger. I had a witch place a spell on it so it'll destroy his line while keeping him alive. Please!" I begged him putting the dagger into his hand. He used the desired weapon and stabbed Kol through the heart with it. Kol looked down in shock before smirking at him and turning gray.
"Thank you." I said smiling at him. Jeremy was staring at something behind us and we turned to see Nik standing in the open doorway.
"Nik." I said he looked at me and nodded slightly.
"We didn't have a choice. He was trying to cut off Jeremy's arm!" Elena said trying to come up with something to save herself and Jeremy. "You said you were going to put him down too."
"You kill us, you'll never get to the cure. You'll never be able to make any more hybrids." Jeremy said adding to the fire.
"You really think I care for an instant about my bloody hybrids?" he asked them shocking them both. "I'm no fool. Let me in and I'll take him home." He said looking directly at Jeremy.
"Jer." He looked at me. "We only want to take him home." Bonnie then walked in from behind us and took a look around before looking directly at Nik. "Bonnie?"
"Invite him in." I looked at her suspiciously while my siblings looked at her confused. "We can trust them for now."
"Come in." Jer said and Nik walked to me. I looked down before looking at Kol in the kitchen.
"I'm sorry." I said to him. "I went behind your back so Jeremy could dagger Kol. I had a witch place a spell on the dagger. The moment I held it, the spell finalized. Kol's entire vampire line will start dying off as if her were staked with the white oak stake."
"When did you do this?" Elena asked me shocked.
"After you called Stefan to tell him you wanted to kill Kol and dagger Bekah." I told her and she looked shocked for a moment. "Yes, he told me what you wanted to do after we left Nik with Damon all day. I want one thing from you though mister." I said turning to Nik.
"And what would that be?" he asked me.
"A wedding." I told him and he raised an eyebrow at me.
"We are in the middle of finding the cure, love. It can wait a little longer. More time for you to plan it." He said trying to convince me.
"I don't need more time. Money: yes. Time: no." I told him. I heard Jeremy move to the living room with Elena and Bonnie as I spoke to Nik.
"This isn't the time." He insisted.
"When will it be?" I asked him nearly laughing. "This might be the only time we can all do this. How long do you think everyone we care about will be alive? Going to this mystery island could change everything. Some of the people I love most in the world could be dead hunting after that cure. Please, let's speed it up. Just a little." I knew I was begging him, but I didn't care.
"If that's what will make my bride happy, then we will move up the date." He told me and I smiled at him.
"It didn't work." Jeremy said shortly after Nik and I had decided on a new date.
"It took time for Finn's line to die off, remember? It'll work." Bonnie reminded him.
"What if it doesn't?" Jeremy asked.
"It will Jeremy. My witch wouldn't lie to me about this." I told him.
"There's that Gilbert optimism." We turned to see Damon walking towards Elena. "Hi." Smiling, Elena hugged her boyfriend tightly. "Sorry I missed all the excitement."
"I'm just happy to see you." She told him. Stefan was soon behind them with the tombstone and Bakeh beside him.
"Looks like we didn't miss much." Stefan said.
"We're just waiting for Jeremy's mark to grow." Elena explained to him.
"Now all we need is professor Shane, and then we'll have everything we need." I said with a small smile on my face.
"Stefan, why do you and Nicole possibly think that we can trust the original family?" Elena asked us glancing at the two siblings at our sides.
"Let me guess, they pledged their allegiance to you while you were naked in the sack?" Damon asked us. While everyone knew I was with Nik, the news Stefan was sleeping with Bekah made everyone react silently, Elena's shock being the most obvious.
"I bet you were just dying to get that out, weren't you, Damon?" Stefan asked him.
"Oh, was that supposed to be a secret? Maybe you should have made that a little clear while you were bleeding me dry in our cellar." Damon told him.
"Yeah, to keep you from killing Jeremy." Stefan reminded him.
"Stop it, both of you." Elena told ordered them.
"Now, why don't you tell her to calm down, Damon? You've managed to use that sire bond pretty well so far, haven't you?" Stefan asked him. Damon punched Stefan in the face, knocking him down and making Bekah move closer to Nik and I. Stefan got back up and was about to attack Damon when Jeremy started screaming. We all turned to him and watched as he ripped off his shirt and his mark grow.
"It's happening." He told us.
"Oh, my god..." Elena gasped.
"You can see it?" Elena nodded to him and we watched the mark grow up his arm and across his chest.
"Here we go."
So I really hope everyone enjoys this chapter as much as I enjoyed writing it. I kept Kol alive yay! If anyone finds anything that could be made better in this chapter then please please please tell me!
