The morning after our wedding I woke up, opening my eyes to see Nik staring at me.

"Morning." I said smiling at him.

"Morning." He said before kissing me deeply. Things were getting heated once more when someone knocked on our bedroom door. We groaned and he glared at the door. "Whoever it is. I'm going to kill them." He told me before pulling on some pants and giving me a robe. I put it on before he opened the door revealing Tyler on the other side.

"Morning, sunshine. You two look pathetic." He said.

"What are you doing here Tyler?" I asked him annoyed. Nik went to grab him when he was stopped by some sort of barrier.

"What is this?" he asked getting angry.

"Bonnie made sure you couldn't follow them when they went to get the cure." He told us. "Just a little spell to keep you in one place."

"Once Bonnie's spell locking us in here wears off, we'll look different. Angrier, perhaps. Or I won't look like anything because I'll have gouged your eyeballs from their sockets." Nik said.

"My friends will be back with the cure by then. So, I could shove it down your throat and make you mortal." Tyler taunted.

"I'm an Original. What makes you think my entire vampire bloodline won't be cured along with me? I.e., you." Nik questioned.

"You know what I think? I think that's impossible. I think the moment you stop being a vampire, our whole blood connection to you is broken, and your sire-line ceases to exist. So, whatever happens to you, happens only to you, which means I can kill your ass and no one else has to die. Although I am still debating just how to do it." Tyler said. Nik clenched his fist wanting to attack Tyler but unable to because of the barrier.

"I recommend drowning. There's nothing quite like the feeling of someone fighting for something as basic as human breath. And let me tell you, your mother was a fighter." Tyler glared at him and Nik turned to me pleased with his taunting.

"Don't worry about your son, I'll keep him safe.

"What have you done with Nikolas? Where is he?" I asked angrily.

"Care still has him, but with you two and your creepy family gone Elena and Jeremy will be much better parents than the two of you could ever be." He threatened and I stared him dead in the eye.

"You do anything to harm him or take him away from us and you won't have to worry about Nik killing you." I warned him.

"And why's that?" he asked me smirking.

"Cause I will hunt you down and kill you myself." I threatened him before Nik closed the door on him.

Later that afternoon the door was being opened and closed by Tyler and Nik after we'd gotten dressed in something more comfortable than a robe or sleeping pants.

"You're still here? What are you doing?" I saw Caroline walk to Tyler with Nikolas on her hip. I moved to the doorway and watched him play with her hair.

"Gloating." Tyler said as he poured himself a drink from the tumbler he'd moved into the hallway.

"Hello, Caroline." Nik said behind me.

"Give me Nikolas, please Care." I almost begged her. She looked at me guilty before looking back at her boyfriend.

"Come home. Don't stoop to their level." She told him and I was seething inside.

"They destroyed my life. I plan on being present for every second of their misery until I can kill them myself." Tyler said and Nik moved me away from the doorway and away from Tyler.

"Fine. You can gloat and multitask." Caroline said giving Nikolas to him.

"Give us our son back. Caroline." I ordered as Tyler showed him off in front of us.

"Tyler's mother is dead. My brother is daggered. We're even. Call Bonnie. Get her to let us out of here." Nik said.

"I will never, ever, help you." Caroline told him.

"How quickly you forget the part where I saved Tyler from the misery of being a werewolf. Or the night your mother invited me into her home to save the life of her precious daughter." Nik said.

"How delusional are you? You killed his mother. Or did you think that your charm would make us forget how you killed her? You know what? No. I am not going to engage in this. You are not even worth the calories I burn talking to you." Caroline ranted.

"Care, at least give me our son. Please." I asked her. She looked at me before going to Tyler and taking Nikolas back from him and handing him to me.

"Hey my little prince." I said moving further into the room with him in my arms. I heard a lamp snap in half and turned to watch Nik impale Caroline.

"No!" Tyler called out. Nik swung Caroline to our side of the magical barrier and bit into her neck letting her fall into the floor after he did so.

"Now, that was definitely worth the calories." Nik said smirking at Tyler.

"Oh my god, oh my god." She continued to repeat as Tyler settled her on a chair in the hallway.

"Hey, hey. Look at me. Look at me. I can fix this." He told her.

"How? The only thing that can heal me is his blood! Oh my god..." she said again.

"I know. I'll fix it." He repeated and she nodded at him. He stood and moved just out of Nik's reach. "She'll die if you don't heal her."

"Okay." Nik said before biting into his wrists and extended his arms, palms up. "Beg me to save her life."

"Is this what you want? To remind me that I'm powerless against you? Fine. You win. I'm nothing. Now save her. Please." Tyler asked.

"I'm sorry, mate. I didn't quite catch that." Nik taunted.

"Please." Tyler begged him again.

"Please..." Nik egged on.

"Please save her life." Tyler begged him.

"See, now I think you're just telling me what I want to hear. I mean, you did call me pathetic earlier. And wouldn't it be more pathetic of me to help now, knowing that hours ago, you announced your plan to kill me in a manner in which you're debating because you want it to have a certain amount of flair? I'm just asking." Nik said.

"I'll be your slave again. I'll do whatever you want. Just help her." Tyler said.

"No." Both Nik and I said to him.

"Get me out of here. I can't even look at them." She said to us.

"Come on." Tyler said helping her up and leaving.

"Should we have helped her?" I asked him once they were gone.

"No." he said before moving towards me and Nikolas and joining us in a small family hug.

A short time later, Tyler carried Caroline back to us and laid her down on the floor.

"You want to be in control, Klaus? Here. Now you get to be in control of her life. If you want her to die, fine. But then you can sit here and watch her die yourself." Tyler said before leaving us alone again. Caroline looked up at us as Nik approached her.

"Nothing personal, love. If I cure you, that means victory for him. Don't worry. It won't be long now." He told her as she breathed heavily and closed her eyes. We moved her into our room and laid her down on the bed.

"If you don't feed me your blood, I'll die." Caroline told him.

"Then you'll die, and Tyler will have learned his lesson the hard way." Nik told her.

"How could you do this to him? To his mom? To me?" she asked the two of us.

"I'm a thousand years old. Call it boredom." He told her and she looked at me with sadness in her eyes.

"He threatened to take away Nikolas from us. That he'd kill us and our family before letting Elena and Jeremy take care of him." I told her.

"I don't believe you." She told us.

"Fine. Then maybe it's because we're pure evil, and we can't help ourselves." He said to her.

"It's because you were hurt. Which means that there is a part of you that is human." She told him.

"How could you possibly think that?" he asked her smirking.

"Because I've seen it. Because... I've caught myself wishing that I could forget all the horrible things that you've done so I can be happy for the two of you." She told us.

"But you can't. Can you?" I asked her.

"I know that you two are in love. And anybody capable of love is capable of being saved." She said.

"You're hallucinating." I said trying to not let some of her words get to me.

"I guess we'll never know." He said before her breath caught.

"Caroline?" I called to her. Her breathing labored then was weak and fading. "Nik, give her your blood." I told him. He lifted her into a sitting position and bit into his wrist and put it to her mouth and she finally started drinking. "Thank you."

"Why did you want to save her?" he asked me and I sighed looking down at the baby sitting up and playing with his toys on the floor.

"She was a friend once, and I still care about her. Part of me wants to leave town and never come back, but another part of me doesn't want to leave home again." I told him. "I wish we could find a place where we could still be us and still have it feel like home."

"And we will, one day. We will find a home for the three of us where we can be who we were meant to be. Together." Nik said comforting me. I smiled at him as he stopped feeding Caroline his blood and pushed her to the other side of the barrier before closing the door and joining Nikolas and I on the floor to play with him with Caroline or Tyler checking in on us every so often.
