I was in my room reading in my bed on night when my phone started going off. I picked it up and rolled my eyes at the name on the screen.

"Well, well, well. If it isn't my favorite Salvatore brother." I said smirking. "What do you want?"

"It's Katherine." He said and I sat up a little.

"What about her?" I asked. "Is she dead for killing my brother finally?"

"Well, she's in the hospital." He told me and my smirk vanished. "She's dying of old age."

"Vampires don't age." I reminded him.

"She's human." He told me and I took a deep breath.

"Tell me everything."

By the next morning I was getting ready to leave when Nik walked into my room.

"Move. I'm going home for a funeral." I told him.

"Ah. And who in Mystic Falls is dead." He asked me with a smirk of his own on his face.

"Katherine is dying and I'm her friend." I reminded him. "I'm going to say goodbye to the woman who introduced us."

"She's a vampire." He said confused.

"She's human. Elena crammed the cure down her throat and Silas took the cure from her now she's dying of old age like she should have five hundred years ago." I explained to him. "Let me go."

"I'll go with you. We'll even bring Rebekah along for her dear Quarterback." Nik said with a smirk on his face.

"Oh! Elena and Damon broke up so I'm going to rub my sister's face in that too." I said walking out of my room.

When we reached Mystic Falls the three of us left straight for the Salvatore Boarding House and walked inside to see Damon, Matt, Caroline, Bonnie and Jeremy, who I'd thought I'd never see again.

"She impersonated me... repeatedly." Elena said taking a shot. "Made Aunt Jenna stab herself in the stomach and she cut off Uncle John's fingers."

"He might have deserved that." Jeremy said as I stared at him confused.

"My Grams died trying to close a tomb she wasn't in." Bonnie said.

"Tyler's werewolf curse got triggered because of her." Caroline said.

"Klaus followed her to Mystic Falls and because of that, we lost Jenna." Elena added and I crossed my arms over my chest.

"And Alaric." Damon said as various groups stood around and took shots.

"We're going to need more booze." Matt said looking at the bottle before leaving to get more.

"She tried to kill me at least twice." Elena said.

"She did kill me... Although I'm weirdly better off." Caroline said.

"Then why bother adding it to your list of "Katherine is a bitch"?" I asked her and they all turned to us surprised.

"Nicole?" Elena asked surprised and I gave her a look.

"You know, looking at you I'm glad I didn't get that haircut." I told her. I moved my gaze from her to my younger brother. "I watched you burn. I saw you dead."

"Bonnie brought me back to life." He told me and I looked to her.

"When?" I asked.

"Graduation." He said and I nodded before laughing lightly.

"All summer." I said. "You've been alive all summer and I didn't know."

"And you're pregnant, again." Elena said looking at my extended abdomen.

"I did call and tell you. Which is more than what you did." I said angrily.

"What are you doing here?" Elena asked standing a little straighter trying to act like she was in charge and I smirked at her.

"Stefan called me." I told her and she looked at me confused. "My friend is dying, I'm allowed to be here."

"He invited all three of you?" Damon asked looking behind me to my husband and sister.

"I'm not about to leave the protection of my home without my family." I told him.

"Do you really think I'm going to leave my wife and Katarina alone while she carries my child?" Nik asked him.

"Yes you will." I told him.

"After this we won't disturb your little drama club anymore." Bekah told them smirking.

"No we have one of our own now." I reminded her.

"Your family is here. This is your home." Elena said motioning to herself and Jeremy.

"A family that doesn't tell me one of them is back from the dead?" I asked her looking between the two of them. "I mourned Jeremy! For weeks, months!"

"I saw." Jeremy said drawing my gaze to him. "I saw you fall asleep crying when I died. I watched Klaus comfort you when Elena turned off her emotions just to get past the pain."

"You watched me? Did you watch as the witches in New Orleans held me captive and linked me a psycho witch?" I asked him and he looked at me confused. "No then." I said before looking upstairs.

"Rumor has it, your dear friend burnt down the entire city of Atlanta once." Damon said.

"She did." I confirmed.

"That might win." Jeremy said.

"Alright. Knock it off or take it somewhere else. You guys are being insensitive." Stefan said revealing himself behind us.

"Stefan." I said smiling at him. We gave each other a hug and he nodded to the other two.

"Glad you could make it. She's upstairs in my room." He told me and I nodded to him my thanks.

"Thank you." I told him before making my way up to his room. I saw Katherine laying in the bed and sighed before climbing in bed next to her.

"Nicole?" she said confused. Her voice was scratchy as though she hadn't used it in years and I smiled at her.

"Hey stranger." I said softly.

"Why are you here?" she asked me confused.

"Stefan called me. Told me you were dying." I told her. "Nik and Bekah are here too."

"Is he here to gloat that I'm dying of old age?" she asked and I laughed lightly.

"No. He's here to protect me." I told her and she looked at me confused. "I'm pregnant. A girl, this time. She's been targeted by witches, but now that Nik's in charge of the city we are protected."

"I'm happy for you." She told me with a small smile.

"I don't think Nik will let me do this, but I want to name her Katherine. After the only person I could depend on for three very important years in my life." I told her and she looked at me shocked.

"Why?" she asked me.

"Before you killed my brother you were my friend. My family." I told her with a smile. "That's the you I will chose to remember after you die."

"Does this mean you forgive me?" she asked me.

"Not quite. This means I am being the bigger person between the two of us." I told her with a smile.

"Thank you." She said and I smiled at her.

"Your welcome." I said before getting comfortable next to her. "Now get some sleep grandma. One good thing about being pregnant is I get to sleep a lot." She laughed lightly before we both fell into a peaceful sleep.

"Put the pillow down, Damon." I heard through my sleep. I opened my eyes to see Damon with a pillow in his hands standing above Katherine.

"Liz..." Damon sighed.

"If you kill her, it's murder. I'd have to bring you in, lock you up.. there's all that paperwork.." Liz listed off.

"Every awful thing I've ever done is linked to her. She taught me how to kill. I don't enjoy it.. She ruined me and I can't take any of that back." Damon told her.

"Look at how much control she still has over you, Damon. Prove her wrong." Liz told him while taking the pillow from his hands.

"Wow. You blaming a dying woman for wanting said woman dead?" I asked him with a smirk on my face. "How pathetic."

"Shut up." He told me with a look on his face as Liz walked back to us.

"Here are the sedatives from the hospital. It should help with the pain." Liz said laying them on the nightstand next to Katherine.

"I don't want them. They make me weak and when I'm weak, he can get inside my head." Katherine said pointing at Damon.

"Stay out of my grandmother's head." I told him and she gave me a small look.

"Okay. Suit yourself. They're right here if you want them." Liz told her. "Still looking for Matt? Any word from Elena?" She asked Damon.

"Looking for Matt?" I asked. "What happened?"

"Devil-spawn hid him buried in a safe?" he told me.

"Devil-spawn?" I asked.

"Nadia, my daughter." Katherine told me and my eyebrows met my hairline.

"Looks like you get to tell me a story one day." I said to her. "But how are you and my dear twin?" I asked with a knowing smirk.

"We're not on a speaking basis." Damon said glaring at me.

"Didn't you hear sherrif? He was so afraid to dirty her white dove feathers that he let her little wings fly free. And it was all MY fault. Oops." Katherine said with false sadness in her voice. Damon used his vampire speed to grab one of the syringes Liz hand lain out and roughly jabbed it into Katherine's arm.

"Hey!" I shouted at him.

"That'll make her shut up for a while." Damon said as Katherine drifted off into sleep.

"Don't be such a dick, Damon. Leave. I want to sleep." I told him tiredly. I didn't get to sleep much at home with dead evil witches hurting my family. During the day anyway, now was when all that sleep seemed it hit me.

"What the hell was that?" Damon asked Katherine suddenly once she was awake enough to actually answer him.

"You never heard the real story of how I came to meet your brother. I want to think that this prophecy of the universe bringing the doppelgängers together is absurd, but the moment that I saw Stefan, I can't describe it.. the out-of-the-way road, the downed tree, the broken down carriage.. it just... sounded like fate to me." Katherine told him. "Just go away. Don't you think that you've made your point?" she asked him. "Jenna?" she asked obviously confused.

"Katherine, Jenna's dead. She's not here." I tried telling her.

"No! No!" Katherine said before grabbing her stomach.

"Poor Aunt Jenna. I had to compel her to think she walked into that knife. She was so confused!" Damon said before going for another syringe.

"No! No more drugs!" she said before looking up in shock. She screamed in pain looking down at her fingers.

"DAMON ENOUGH!" I ordered him. The one day I didn't think I'd need my damn gun is when I needed it on my sister's ex-boyfriend.

"Elijah..." Katherine said softly before taking her hand and holding it up to Damon's face. "You're here." She then quickly dropped her hand and backed away from him.

"I'm sorry, did you actually think that that was real? Nope. No one's coming to say goodbye, Katherine. Because no one cares." Damon told her and I slapped him when his neck was suddenly broken from behind making him fall to the ground.

"I do." A beautiful woman said.

"You must be Nadia." I said looking her over.

"I am. You must be Nicole Gilbert." She said.

"Mikaelson now." She turned and beckoned to a woman to her side before sitting on the bed where Damon had been.

"Come on. Let's get on with this."

"With what?" I asked.

"Mia is going to teach Katherine the traveler passenger spell and she'll passenger in my body." Nadia told me.

"Then what about you?" I asked her.

"That doesn't matter about me." She said and Mia started teaching Katherine the spell to passenger inside Nadia's body.

"Repeat this spell so I know you understand how the passenger works." Mia told Katherine.

"I can't." Katherine told her.

"Just say it." Nadia said before reciting the spell for Katherine. "" Say it and it's done. Your spirit goes inside my body and Mia will activate it by calling you forth and you get to live."

"Can I have a moment with my daughter and friend please?" Katherine asked Mia and I knew exactly what she was going to tell Nadia. It'd probably be the same thing I'd tell my children in this situation. Mia nodded to Katherine and left the room.

"I know what you're going to say." Nadia told her.

"We don't have time for this. Nadia, letting my father rip you out of my arms.. it was the biggest regret of my life. I should've fought harder to keep you, but I didn't; So I spent the next 500 years making sure I didn't make that mistake again. I fought for everything - and in the process, I had a long, full life. And I got to know my beautiful daughter. You spent the last centuries searching for me." Katherine said before picking up a syringe from the table. "Don't waste another minute on me. It's your turn to live."

"You can't do this." Nadia said heartbroken.

"Let me.. I made selfish decisions all my life. Let me do the right thing for once." Katherine told her daughter.

"Fine. Then go.. Leave me.. drift off into oblivion, but I will not sit by your side and watch you die." Nadia said before storming out. Katherine started to injected herself when I took the syringe from her.

"Let me." I said before injected her with the medication to help her sleep.

"Ouch." Damon said and I turned to see Stefan enter the room as Damon stood up.

"What the hell happened to you?" Stefan asked his brother.

"In a shocking twist, Katherine's daughter is a psycopath. Whew. She's all yours. I've had fun messing with her mind all day." Damon told his brother.

"Damon.." Stefan began to warn him.

"I know, Stefan. I know. It's been a rough couple of days.. I needed an outlet, OK?" Damon asked him before leaving the room.

"Hey." Stefan said to her softly once she started waking up again.

"These drugs are hardcore." She said groggily.

"Close your eyes. I came to say 'bye.'" He told her.

"I want to see you." She said.

"You will." He told her. He brought her hand up to Katherine's face and entered her mind.

"What is she seeing?" I asked him.

"The end result of getting on Klaus' bad side after the failed sacrifice. I'm going to show her a better life." He told me and I smiled at him.

"Thank you. For being her friend." I said and he smiled at me.

"She helped me when I was in a bad place. This is the least I can do for her." He told me and I returned his smile.

"Goodbye, Katherine." He said planting a kiss on her forehead.

"Is she..." Elena asked entering the room.

"Not yet. These drugs...She won't wake up again." Stefan said. "Want to go downstairs?" he asked me and I nodded before crawling out of the bed. I held Katherine's hand for a moment before leaving her and Elena alone.

We all sat in the living room together just sitting and talking. Nik had his arms wrapped around my waist as we had a brief truce until we left.

"Hey." Caroline called to us walking in the boarding house.

"Hey. Where have you been?" Matt asked her.

"In the woods...I got lost." She told us and we all looked at her weirdly. "So.. what are we doing?"

"We are waiting for Katherine to bite the bullet." Jeremy told her.

"Be nice. For once." I told him throwing something soft at him.

"So...this anchor thing...Does that mean you'll be able.. to, like.. feel Katherine's death... or whatever." Matt asked her.

"I think so.. I mean, she's human, but she's also a doppelgänger.. and a traveler, apparently." Bonnie told us.

"So you're not a witch anymore?" I asked for clarification.

"No, not anymore. I'm still dead just now I have a foothold on both sides of the veil." She told me and I nodded.

"So, who else do you see over there? Anybody I know?" Matt asked her.

"I see lots of people.. my grams, the other witches, Vicki...I just don't talk about it you know...because it's just..." Bonnie stopped talking and looked behind her before smiling.

"What's happening?" Matt asked her for all of us.

"She's here. She said she loves you." Bonnie said. She listened for a minute before laughing.

"Wait...What's happening? What am I missing?" Matt asked her.

"We are all missing something." I told him.

"Me." We looked to see Tyler and I burrowed into Nik's chest more.

"Tyler?" Caroline asked looking up at him as though she was dreaming.

"Our parting gift to you." Nik said. "So long as he stays away from New Orleans and my family. I will not hunt him down." Matt broke into a big grin at Nik's words.

"Hey, Care." Tyler said looking at the blonde.

"Hi..." she said still staring at him. Matt got up from his seat and gave Tyler a big hug.

"Have we really gone through four bottles of bourbon today?" Stefan asked looking at the mess.

"It wasn't me." I said raising my hand making Nik chuckle at me.

"Alaric!" Jeremy suddenly said turning to look behind him.

"Rick's here?" Damon asked.

"Where the hell have you been? I thought you bailed on us to go find peace, or something." Jeremy said. He waited for a moment before smiling.

"He's talking about me, isn't he?" Damon asked.

"He says you're a dick." Jeremy told him.

"Here here!" I agreed.

"Cheers, buddy." Damon said softly.

"Katherine.." Bonnie said. We followed her gaze and saw nothing.

"Ding dong.. Does that mean the witch is dead?" Damon asked.

"She's gone. Guess she's not dead yet." Bonnie said and I exhaled a breath I didn't know I was holding.

"We better go." Bekah said to us. "We have a long drive." We said our goodbyes before packing into the car and leaving for home. Never to look back at Mystic Falls again.
