Edalyn Clawthorne, The Owl Lady of the Boiling Isle's, the most beautiful and bitter witch of them. Oh, powerful! One could not forget powerful!

Truly she had it all, well most of it.

...

Alright fine, her life could be improved upon, her curse for example. It felt like every day she was simply just delaying the inevitable. For when she would transform into the Owl Beast for one last time and become a local legend/monster in forests around her house until someone inevitably hunts her down for sport and ended up stuffing Eda and putting her on a pedestal and become a story the hunter would tell when guest arrive for dinner parties. Around screaming tea and crumpets maybe.

Eda sighed and shook her head free of those thoughts.

"Ugh, that doesn't matter right now! Let's just focus on what..." Owlbert then made his presence known by dropping a bag on her table and giving a loud "hoot". "Good job Owlbert, don't know how I'd pay my mortgage without you." She said, giving the very good bird head pats before putting him back on his staff, twisting him back into the wood of the staff.

"Come one, Come All!" She shouted, getting the attention of anyone in the marketplace, "Come look at these Human Collectibles! Like this horrible rock candy!" She said, holding up an actual diamond ring. "Or perhaps this black shadow box!" A smartphone. "Or perhaps this much bigger black shadow box that reflects only sadness!" She held up a mobile TV.

She then heard a giggle and saw no crowd had formed, as expected. She groaned and turned to the giggling. Some tan-skinned girl with weird ears.

"I- I'm sorry, hearing you call a TV a sad shadow box was funny." Luz giggled again and then walked up to the stand. "Can I see it? I can show you what else it can do." Luz reached out for the portable TV.

Eda narrowed her eyes and slowly handed Luz the TV. "Just don't run off with my loot."

Luz held the TV, inspecting it and finding a battery compartment. Looking around Eda's stand, she saw a pair in the "candy" dish. After replacing the batteries, the TV came to life and buzzed with static before starting to play a workout video from who knows how long ago.

"See? It's called a TV. It plays images, like a human Oracle orb," Luz explained, "Watch." She said as she turned up the volume on the old T.V. The announcer of the workout video shouted instructions, telling the people who were presumably watching the video to get into it and push themselves harder.

A crowd of monsters and people gathered around, screaming how much they wanted to buy the screaming box, one wanted to buy it for 20, another for 100. Some red monster asked if they could eat the dancing man. Eda smiled and began collecting cash. "What did say your name was?" Eda asked, still grabbing random cash.

"Luz. Luz Noceda-B-" She paused. 'wait, don't reveal yourself...' She cleared her throat. "Sorry, just Luz Noceda." She said with a friendly smile. She could almost hear her mother shouting at her in Spanish about lying.

"Well, Luz, that was pretty smart of you, for a human. I mean, look at all this business!"

Luz inspected Eda, she had a covering around her head, probably trying to obscure her appearance.

"Thank you, whoever you are, it was no problem," Luz said with a laugh.

"Who am I?" She scoffed before suddenly standing on top of her stand table. "I am Eda, the Owl Lady! The most powerful witch on the Boiling Isles!"

"Another Witch?" She asked, having only seen her Father and perform magic so far.

"I am respected, feared, loved-"

"Busted" There was a sudden gruff voice shout as a fist suddenly came down onto The TV, shattering it into little pieces. Looking, they saw that it was a Conformatorium guard.

"Eda the Owl Lady! You are wanted for the Crime of being a wild witch and the mixing of magic, against the Emperor's law!" The Guard shouted, pointing a finger at Eda, who didn't look impressed with the guard. "You are commanded to come with me to the Conformatorium for your sentencing!" He shouted, grabbing onto her arm, forcibly, to which Eda forcibly pulled away.

"Leave me be, copper buzzkill," Eda crossed her arms, "I haven't done squat." She looked to the side.

"Oh no, she's a criminal! Gotta get out of here before-" Luz attempted to sneak away but the guard caught her.

"And you! You're coming along for fraternizing with a known criminal!" He added.

"What!? You got it wrong!" Luz shouted and wiggling around in his hand. "Why are you so strong!? You'll regret doing this!"

Eda stepped behind the counter. "Would you relax! Alright alright, I'll go with you!" She began reaching under the counter. "Just let me get things and-" she pulled out her staff and clocked the guard over the head with it, making him release Luz and making him stumble backward.

The Owl Lady smirked as she stood on top of her stand, spinning the staff before tapping the end onto her table. Everything she owned began to glow and float off the ground. Looking, Luz saw her pull a key out of her hair and press a button on it, making a briefcase fly towards her. She cast some sort of spell on her items and briefcase and they all somehow fit into a green cloth that tied itself. Eda quickly scooped it with her staff.

"Follow me if you don't want to be caught, human!" Eda shouted, still running. Luz got to her feet and made quick work of catching up with her, the guard hot on their tail.

"STOP RUNNING!" He shouted at them, reaching out to grab them.

"Not a chance!" Luz shouted back. "You smell weird!" She added.

Eda then suddenly locked her arm around Luz's and jumped into the air, her staff glowed and the Ornate Owl atop the staff moved its wings and began flapping, Eda began flying away with Luz in tow.

"WooHoo! Catch us now!" She screamed, laughing maniacally as she flew over the clouds. The guard shouted things about not getting away with it, Luz chose to not process it as she shut her eyes tightly and held herself tightly, fearing to fall.

"It's safe now, human, you can open your eyes," Eda said to her, "It's quite beautiful up here actually."

Luz deciding to trust this person slowly cracked open her eyes, to see that she was probably Miles upon miles above the ground. She jumped, not a good idea on a flying staff. She slipped and was only able to catch herself by grabbing onto the staff with her entire body. "Oh, Dios Mio ayúdame mamá!" She screamed at the top of her lung

"Relax, I got you!" Eda said, grabbing her by the scruff of her collar and fixing her onto her staff more securely this time. "I won't let anything hurt you, kid."

Suddenly a giant bird creature flew next to them and screeched at them.

"A griffin!" Luz identified the creature almost instantly.

"Good eye human." Eda complemented.

"B- But I thought those were Human realm myths?" She asked Eda.

"Not exactly, you see, the magic from the Boiling Isles is so potent, that it leaks into yours, all of your myths are just creatures from my home. Like Griffons, Vampires, Giraffes."

"Giraffes?" Luz asked, looking for clarification.

"Oh yeah, we banished those freaks to a random dimension years ago, guess you got the short end of the stick."

"What did they even do?"

"We don't speak of that anymore," Eda said, with a serious face, continuing to fly, then aiming the staff down and safely landing on the forest floor. "No one wants to talk about it." She jumped off the staff. "It was horrifying."

Luz narrowed her eyes, trying to think of what the giraffes could've possibly done to be banished from the Boiling Isles. Must've been bad. "Well, how bad-" looking to the side, she saw a straw hand, still clutching onto the staff tightly and a bone sticking out.

"OH, DEAR LORD!" She shouted, falling off and quickly standing. "Is that your hand!?" She asked.

Eda laughed and reattached her hand, twisting it on. "Never gets old."

"Well I think that was enough sightseeing in the town of Bonesborough, I appreciate you saving me from that crazy guard, Lilith must be looking for me so-" Luz tried walking away but Eda's staff stopped her path forward.

"Lilith? As in Clawthorne? Of the Emperor's Coven?" She asked, wishing for clarification. Luz sheepishly nodded. "Why are you looking for my sister?" she asked. Luz's eyes then lit up like headlights.

"Lilith is supposed to be my mentor! She's your sister!? What are the odds?!" She squealed, not believing her luck for this to have happened.

"Estranged sister." She clarified. "She joins the Emperor's Coven and suddenly she was too good for me... Hey wait, she only mentors Emperor's Coven recruits..." She asked suspicious of Luz.

Luz waved her arms frantically.

"N- no no, you got it wrong," Luz said quickly, "My dad told her to train me."

"She only listens to the Emperor."

Luz nearly fell over her lie. "M- my father is a Coven's head! Yeah... They asked Lilith and she agreed to train me... I c- can't exactly do magic very well... Like at all." She said, sweating bullets and hoping Eda wouldn't want to prod further into it.

Eda stroked her chin. "Hmm, I guess that makes sense, you're just a late bloomer, you'll probably become a really powerful witch when you're older." She said, polishing her staff as she looked at Luz. "Tell you what kid, I'll give you a one-way trip to the Emperor's Coven, to Lilith, if you help me with something I'm working on." As she said that, she began walking through the forest, the bag of junk floating behind her. Luz followed.

With that, Luz seemed to have finally noticed the house resting next to the cliff lake, with the giant guard tower built into it as well. Or was the house built after the house and she decided to keep the tower? Either way-

"This place is so COOL!" Luz shouted as she followed Eda to the cozy-looking house. They walked up to the door and saw what looked like an owl face. "Oh, that's a cute piece of decor-"

"HOOT!" Hooty shouted suddenly, scarring Luz off her feet.

"What the heck is that!?" She asked as she saw Hooty extend itself out the door and stared at her.

"It's just Hooty, best Security System this side of the Boiling Isles."

"Hoot Hoot!" The house demon said, pressing itself into her face. "Password please! OW!" Hooty yelped in pain, retracting into the door.

"We don't have time for this Hooty, open up," Eda said, using her staff to pick up Luz. "Kid if I keep having to pick you up, I'm tying you to a set of balloons." She said as Hooty swung the door opened and they walked through, Luz staying close to Eda. It was dark inside.

"Welcome to," she snapped her fingers, "The Owl House!" suddenly, candles lit themselves to provide light, as Eda's washed over with her golden magic, lighting up a fireplace, animating several items to life, and stirring a cauldron before a mural overhead also lit up to reveal itself. She could've sworn she heard an Owl Screech.

"Woah..." Luz said, starstruck as she walked deeper into the house and she looked around at all the things in the house, everything about the living room itself was enough to make her speechless.

"This is my home, where I come to relax after selling junk all day to losers and to hide away from the world." She said with a hearty laugh. "It's a good life." Eda then threw herself onto her couch and relaxed, melting into it.

"It's beautiful, you live on your own?"

There was suddenly stomping.

"Actually, I have a roommate." She said as the house-shaking footsteps got louder as she could hear them getting closer.

"WHO DARES INTRUDE, ON I, THe king of demons!" King said as he turned the corner, revealing himself, also wearing a bath towel and a towel around his skull as he also held a rubber ducky in his left hand. He squeaked it twice for effect.

Luz gasped loudly, covering her mouth and squealing as she ran over and scooped him up, shouting, "Que Lindo!" As she held him close and tightly hugged him. "Eda! He's so cute!" She then began to baby the poor demon, who desperately attempted to escape her Titan-level strength.

"I don't know who this Little Guy Is! EDA, who is this monster!?" King asked, still attempting to escape her arms.

Eda then pulled her off him, holding her in place as she attempted to reach King. "This is just Luz, the human, she's my sister apprentice, apparently. Besides that, She's here to help us with our little situation."

"Oh! Hooray!" King celebrated, waving his arms in excitement.

"Well, I mean, maybe, I still don't know what this "situation" is." She said, looking at Eda.

"Well, it's simple." She then used both hands to make a big spell circle that went dark in the middle. "You see, long ago King was a mighty King of demons, that is until The Emperor's Coven took away his crown, reverting him into the form you see before you."

"Those jerks!" King shouted, throwing his rubber ducky in frustration.

"The crown is being held by an evil Warden Wrath, behind a magic forcefield, only a human like you could pass through. That human being you if you didn't understand. So you willing to help us?" Eda asked as she shut off the spell.

'Stolen from the Emperor's Coven? Maybe he was a threat to the Isles and they wanted to contain King from causing destruction and death and to do that, they sealed away his crown of power..? I can't just help them get the crown!' She thought to herself. 'They were criminals for a reason...' Luz had to trust the Coven's judgment... But they did have her in their grasp... So she couldn't just say no. soooooo...

"I'll be glad to get this little guy back to full power!" Luz said with a convincing smile.

Eda clapped her hands and smiled. "Great! We leave in a few minutes! I'll be back, gotta powder my nose." She said, disappearing up the stairs.

"...Now, Luz, I wanted you to repeat the entire history of magic back to me without missing a beat..," Lilith said, not facing her students for the last 40 minutes.

...

"Luz?" Lilith turned and went slack-faced as she that only Amity was there, reading her Azura Book in peace, having been able to tune her mentor's voice out long ago.

"Amity! Where's Luz!?" She asked, facing her.

Amity simply shrugged. "I don't know, wandered into the town market 10 minutes into the lesson," She flipped a page, "Said she was bored and looked for something to do..." She added.

Lilith internally screamed, knowing that the Emperor would have head and Palismin if he found out about this. "We need to find her before-" Lilith paused as she saw a staff fly by, followed by an extremely loud Luz shouting "WOOOHOOOO!" at the top of her lungs

Lilith was silent as Amity watched Luz and The Elusive Owl Lady fly away, towards the Conformatorium. "I uh, think we found them." She said.

"Amity, I believe this concludes today's lessons, I wish we could've done more, but I must save the Princess from my sister..." She then dropped her staff, which floated mid-air. she sat on it and flew away, leaving Amity alone in the clearing.

Said girl sighed before packing up and going home. "Waste of a day..." She whispered, starting to dislike the princess more and more by the minute.

Luz and Eda were inside the contraband room, and looking around, there was a giant pillar of light, blocking access to all the confiscated contraband the warden collected over the years. King kept attempting to ram himself into the forcefield, constantly being repelled away and shocked.

"We have a human, now, remember?" Eda asked, putting King on his feet. "Oh right." King acknowledged as they watched Luz approach the green light.

She carefully reached out and touched it, it zapped her. "Ow… That just feels like static, not bad…" She said, putting her hand through it. She giggled. "Hehe, it tickles," Luz said as she made it to the other side.

"Alright Luz, get the crown, call the Warden, get your father's validation for trapping a pair of criminals…" She whispered to herself before stumbling upon the "crown" after searching for a few seconds.

"You've got to be kidding me…" She said softly with a sigh, grabbing the paper crown and holding it up. "This is what we stuck our necks out for?" She asked herself. "Well, maybe it just the magic, making it look like this to fool me." She reasoned to herself. "Yeah, that's it." She pushed herself out of the forcefield.

"I got the crown!" Luz announced.

"Mine!" King quickly snatched the crown faster than she could react.

"Wait-" She reached out for the crown but it was too late.

King quickly placed it on top of his head. "Finally! This world will know my fury!" Then-

Nothing happened? Looking at King, she saw that he was now speaking of raising an army with a stuffed blush rabbit.

"That crown never actually gave him power, did it?" She asked Eda.

"Nope."

"Then why did we risk getting it?"

"Cause it was important to King, so it was important to me, kid. King and I don't have much in this world, but we have each other, and we gotta support each other the best we can." Eda explained.

Luz smiled at the sentiment shared between the two criminals... She was sure that hardcore criminals wouldn't care about things so trivial as they do... Maybe they weren't so bad...

"Let's get out of here before the warden finds us and loses his head." She said with a laugh.

"Too late..." Warden Wrath sad, stepping out of the shadows, hand turning into a blade and swiping it at them with unprecedented speeds.

Luz's eyes widened, ducking below. Her hair, sadly, met an untimely end, getting cut when she ducked under the blade. "M- My hair!" She exclaimed on the floor, King stumbled, dropping the crown. "My mom is going to kill me! It took forever to get it this lo- OH MY GOSH EDA!" She shouted, seeing the head roll next to her. Suddenly the paper crown was taken back by the Warden.

"You can spend the time growing it back in your cell." The Warden said as he crushed the crown, making King cry out.

"OW, I hate it when I lose my head, so annoying," Eda said suddenly next to Luz.

Luz screamed even louder than before, as heads didn't exactly speak once disconnected from the body. "Eda! Are you OK?! How are you alive!?"

"Yeah, I'm fine, It's Just something that happens when you get older."

"It does?!" Luz asked, horrified as she picked up Eda's head from the ground.

"Finally, I have you cornered... Eda the Owl Lady... Now... Will you go out with me?"

"What?" Eda asked.

"What?!" Luz also asked. This can't be real...

A minion shouted, "Go Boss!" Cheering on Warden Wrath.

"You've always evaded our capture, you've always been the one that got away, I found that... alluring." Warden Wrath explained.

"I hate every word coming out of your mouth, right about now." Luz cringed.

"STAY OUT OF THIS!" Wrath shot a flurry of tendrils at Luz, grabbing her and lifting her off the ground and high into the air.

"Gah! Déjame ir feo culo bastardo!" Luz shouted, struggling in his hold, attempting to break free.

Warden Wrath then picked up Eda's head by her hair off the floor and stared into her eyes through his lens.

"Think about it, Owl Lady! The Feared Warden Wrath and the Most Powerful Witch on The Boiling Isles, we'd be the strongest power couple ever!" He painted out the vision for Eda, too which she cringed.

Eda considered her options, looking at the struggling Luz and equally struggling King.

She sighed. "Alright, Warden, you wi-"

The warden then suddenly dropped Eda's head. "AH! What in the Isles!? Why'd you drop me, warden?!" She couldn't exactly see what happened. "Warden? You still there?"

"Sister, I must say, this is not the way I thought I'd be capturing you," Lilith said, floating the Princess down to her side.

Eda then narrowed her eyes. "Oh, it's you." She groaned at her sister's voice.

"Fate seems to be in my favor tonight sister, first, Warden Wrath disables you, and then I find you with the Princess," Lilith said with a laugh as she picked up Eda's head.

"What Princess are you talking about, Lily?" Eda asked as she saw the Warden, on the ground and very unconscious. She also watched her body being held in place by a set of Emperor Coven guards, King as well. She then saw Luz being held in place by Lilith, Luz was looking to the side, ashamed at the entire situation. "H- Hey!" She shouted. "Let the kid go!" She said, attempting to get free.

"This kid is the Princess, Emperor Belos's daughter." Lilith clarified.

Eda was beyond surprised. "Kid?" She asked, shook more than anything.

"Now, Goodnight, dear Edalyn, You'll want to be awake for what happens tomorrow..." Lilith drew a blue circle, casting a Sleep spell on Eda's head.

The last thing Eda saw, before succumbing to unconsciousness, was Luz crying, small tears going down her cheeks.
