Schreave Palace. Sacramento. Province of Angeles. 3 days into the selection.
After the women were given a couple days to settle in and find their way around the palace or the areas that they were allowed to be in anyway, the selection started in earnest. The first event that Trayvon held was a etiquette lesson for the selected. He reasoned that one of them would eventually become queen and they would need to have some idea of how to be a dignified royal. The selected all gathered in one of the dining rooms as Trayvon came in to explain the activity.
"His grace, the Baron of Yonkers!" one of the servants announced.
"Listen up ladies!" Trayvon exclaimed. "Today, you will all be getting schooled in the ways of charm and refinement. Skills that you will both need if you expect to be queen of this country someday. To make things more interesting, we've brought a professional from the most prestigious charm and beauty school in Angeles. She will be judging you all and the 3 who suck the most...will be eliminated." The girls were stunned at the news, but most of them decided to give it their all and hope for the best.
The professional from the charm and beauty school began to put the ladies through their paces. Some of them were very ungraceful and some girls excelled. Eloise Bryant was in the latter group. She was very fortunate for her Cinderella training because she had a good grasp on charm and femininity. As the professional passed by and saw Eloise performing her exercises with great ease, she was impressed, despite having seen many poised young women in her day. While she performed the etiquette lessons, Eloise sang a Disney song to herself.
"A dream is a wish your heart makes, when you're fast asleep." she sang as she practiced sipping tea like a proper lady. "In dreams you will loose your heartache, whatever you wish for, you keep." Unfortunately, she was overheard by a couple of selected.
"Is this girl for real?" the girl from Sota asked.
"I think so." the girl from Zuni replied. Meanwhile, Eloise kept singing and daydreaming about how she would soon be swept off her feet by King Peter.
"Have faith in your dreams and someday, your rainbow will come smiling through." she continued with her eyes closed and a smile on her face. "No matter how your heart is grieving, if you keep on believing...the dream that you wish will come true."
Seraphina Shepherd relaxed after the etiquette lessons were over. The girls from Bonita, Calgary, and Carolina had scored the lowest and they had all been eliminated and sent to pack. She was thankful that she had made the grade since it meant that she still had a chance to make contact with her brother. Phina decided to head for the royal kitchen where she was hoping there would be ice cream for her to pig out on. She found a freezer that was filled with pints of every flavor of ice cream.
"Come on, Moose tracks, moose tracks...yes!" She exclaimed as she found a pint of her favorite ice cream. She grabbed a spoon, sat on the floor, and began to dig in. So absorbed was she that she failed to notice that she wasn't alone.
"I'm more of a Zanzibar chocolate man myself." Phina looked over to see none other than King Peter, first of his name, standing by her.
"Good, that means I don't have to share." She said as Peter grabbed a pint of his favorite ice cream and sat down next to her.
"Seraphina Shepherd."
"Peter Tru...Schreave, Peter Schreave."
"Yes, I know who you are."
"Yeah, who doesn't by this point?" Peter asked rhetorically as he shoved the spoon into his mouth.
"I have to ask, etiquette lessons; really?" Phina asked in turn as Peter rolled his eyes.
"Hey, that was Trayvon's idea." he insisted. "I thought it was stupid, but he said we had to appease the aristocracy so..."
"I can understand needing to please people above your station." Phina said quietly as she remembered her previous life at the palace.
"Except now, the nobles have to please me." he said with a small grin.
"Your majesty!" Claude called out as he was looking for the king.
"Coming Claude, OK!" Peter called back as he heaved a sigh. "It was nice sharing dairy with you miss Shepherd."
"It was indeed." she said, almost as if she was surprised that Peter didn't seem to be another royal prick.
