Schreave Palace. Sacramento. Province of Angeles. 3 weeks into the selection.
Pyra Kakashi was nervous as Hell as she followed the remaining twenty six women out to the royal stables. For this week's special event, Baron Trayvon of Yonkers had decided to have the selected try their hand at horseback riding. However, this was not merely a fun activity as they hoped. To make things interesting, his Grace announced that all the women would be scored on how well they handled themselves on a steed. The 3 women who scored lowest would be eliminated. This presented a problem for Pyra as she had never ridden a horse before in her life. She was fearful that she might do poorly and be eliminated. That couldn't happen, not yet anyway.
As she was walking through the stable, the smell of horse shit made her want to vomit. Suddenly, she had a brilliant idea. While the selected were picking their horses, Pyra went over to a corner of the stable that was empty. Luckily, no one was watching her as the women were too nervous about proving their equestrian skills to the powers that be. Pyra shoved 2 fingers down her throat and began to gag herself.
"Ack…ack!" Pyra gagged as she forced herself to vomit. Everyone let out shrieks of disgust as they saw the rebel blow chunks on the stable floor.
"Miss Kakashi, are you all right?" Trayvon asked as he went over to her.
"I'm sorry your Grace, I feel sick…my head is spinning." Pyra lied as she pretended to lose her balance while the Baron caught her.
"Come on Miss Kakashi, we need to get you back to your room and put you to bed." He insisted as he picked her up off her feet.
"No…I have to…complete…" Pyra stuttered, wanting to sell the deception.
"It's all right, I'll give you an exemption due to you being ill." He promised as he began to carry her bridal style back to her room. "The rest of you, choose your horses. I'll be back as soon as Pyra's taken care of." A couple of the girls grumbled that she was getting out scot free. Meanwhile, Pyra was smiling on the inside. After today, she would be closer to the liberation of Illèa.
Later that day.
Kit Brenton was alone in one of the ballrooms, practicing some ballet moves. She had done all right in the horse riding events and had survived another week. 3 girls were not so lucky. The girl from Hudson had tried to abused her horse and had been sent home before the event was finished. The girls from Lakedon, Likely, and Ottaro had scored the lowest and were eliminated as promised. On the one hand, she felt sorry for the girls who were eliminated. On the other hand, it meant that she was one step closer to being an elite and this pleased her very much.
Once she had danced her fill, Kit decided to return to her room. As she made her way past the King's chambers, she was surprised to see Pyra Kakashi attempting to listen in through the door. Despite how she looked early, she seemed fine now. Was it possible for her to have faked being sick to get out of the event? Kit tried to push the thought from her mind as she went about her business. She didn't want to believe that Pyra was up to something, but she couldn't shake the feeling from her completely.
