Opening my eyes the first thing I notice is darkness out the window and the sound of rain on my roof.

"I feel like I just slept for a week."

Nope! Only 6 hours!

"Only 6?"

Yep!

'Huh… Well time to get up I guess.'

Checking the ceiling of the old house for leaks I was glad to find none in the main room. However in the bathroom there was a leak coming in from just above the door.

'Well I can talk to Robin about that later.'

For now I just emptied my watering can into the sink and left it under the leak.

Looking out my window into the field I saw the trees Alex and I cut yesterday about a dozen feet from the front of my house. Wanting to at least get something done today I decided to go outside in the rain to deal with the downed trees.

The rain was somewhat cold being early spring, but it felt nice.

Hydromancy Perk Discovered – [Restoring Rains]

[Restoring Rains] – MP recovers 1.5x faster in the rain

"Oh, that could be useful."

Reading my new perk I walk over to the trees on the ground I put all but one into my inventory then brought out my axe. I wanted wood to make a fire when it got colder here or I need to cook.

Bringing my axe down on a branch I chuckled a little as it cut the branch almost completely clean off. My strength stat being 14 was good for physical work and made my axe cut through the branches like a knife through butter. Removing all the branches and storing them in my inventory was a good way of storing the wood as I didn't have to pile everything up off to the side.

After ridding the tree of the branches from the tree I began cutting it down into foot long sections that would fit in my fireplace.

Cutting through the log was much easier than chopping the tree down had been the day before only taking abort half an hour to get through.

It was peaceful out today only the sound of my axe cutting into the wood and the white noise of the rain.

It took around 5 hours before I started getting bored of the repetitive swinging of my axe and I had cut up around 3/4ths of the 18 foot tree. My inventory had 10 pieces of wood ready to be split then left to dry.

Checking the time I see its a little after 3:30pm so I store my axe and the rest of the tree in my inventory and start walking to town.

Entering town I see it's quite different than the first time I was here. The plaza was empty the only person around I saw was Linus the homeless man out towards the river near Pam and Penny's trailer. It looked like no one else was out cause of the rain.

Making my way over I go to enter the general store only to find a closed on Wednesday sign on the door. Not being able to enter the general store I decided to go to the saloon for an early dinner.

Entering the saloon I only found Gus as it wasn't near lunch or dinner time so no one was here at the moment.

"Hello, Gus." I said with a smile as I walked in the door dripping water everywhere.

Gus looks up and lets out a small chuckle, "Enjoying the weather?"

"Yes in fact! The rain feels wonderful here, not nearly as toxic as city rain." I reply with a small laugh.

He looks at me again and lets out a laugh, "That bad in the city?"

"Yeah, the pollution in the air makes the rain a bit toxic."

"So here to talk or get a drink?"

"Why not both and you doing food around now?" I ask him feeling my stomach rumble a little.

"I still got food left from lunch if you want. It will probably go to wast if you don't."

"That sounds good. I'll have food at my house in a couple days so I can feed myself soon."

"A few days?" He questioned.

"I ordered some simple food to get me through the next couple months." I told him, he seemed to accept that answer.

"I'll get you some of what was left over from lunch." He said as he walked over to the door to a kitchen.

While waiting for him to come out with food I walked over to the jukebox unlike the one from the game this one had a bunch of songs from the game and some new ones. Flipping through Gus comes out of the kitchen and sees me over at the jukebox.

"Find anything you like?"

Choosing a song titled Northern Pastures I walk back over to the counter as the song starts playing.

(A/N Northern Pastures is just what I was listening to at the time of writing.)

"Just looking at your selection." I say noticing this song is one I recognize as a Two Steps From Hell song.

"Well good choice of song. Here is your food. I made sure to heat up the meat for you." he said placing a sandwich in front of me.

Observing the sandwich I saw it had lettuce, tomato, cheese, pickles and meat that observe marked as ham on wheat bread.

"Looks good Gus." I say grabbing the sandwich and taking a bite.

Gus grabs a glass and fills it with the same mead I had last time.

"So how has your short time here in pelican town been?" He asks, handing the mead over.

"Slow. I got some trees down with Alex's help yesterday, and got invited over for dinner. Evelyn was nice." I respond with a small smile. "Got a little over half of a tree striped of branches and cut down to size earlier as well."

He looks at me curiously, "You were still cutting even with the rain?"

I chuckled at his remark, "Yes. I did say the weather was nice did I not? The rain is a good thing to use to wake up. Though I should talk to Robin about getting a leak fixed."

"With how old that house is I'm surprised there isn't more wrong." He says.

"Yeah. The place only has a leak in the bathroom as far as I can tell." I say while eating my sandwich.

"Well it could have been worse."

Finishing my meal I grab reach into my pocket for money.

"That will be 20G. The meal is discounted for being left over."

I pulled out 20G and passed it over. "Thanks for the meal and conversation Gus."

As I stand to leave the door opens and Pam walks in with a look of annoyance on her face.

Exiting I turn and see penny scowling at the door of the saloon where Pam just walked into. Seeing a chance to finish the main part of my quest I go ahead and walk over.

Penny seemed to notice me as I got closer to her.

"Angry much?" I asked, as I got to the tree she was under to shelter from the rain.

"Oh… No, I'm just a little annoyed." She said, as her scowl was replaced with a slight look of sadness.

"Well you wanna say what's bothering you?" I questioned, adopting a small look of concern.

"I wouldn't want to bother you with my problems."

"I don't have anything better to do right now." I say leaning back against the tree. "Gabriel, Nice to meet you."

"Penny. Its nothing really, just my mom refusing to listen to me. She spend most of her time in the saloon drinking away her money and refuses to even slow down." Her face returns to its former scowl as she said this to me.

"Sounds like she has something on her mind she wants to get over." I say to her.

"I mean… She recently lost her job as the bus driver since the bus stopped working. But even when it was working she would still spend hours at the saloon every night."

"Can't get the bus fixed?"

"No the cost to have someone come all the way out here to Pelican Town and look at it is way to high so until then the bus will just sit there and gather dust."

"I would offer to help but I don't have any experience with fixing vehicles."

'Her health is so low. Is something wrong?'

No nothing is wrong with her. Non gamers are just given an HP stat relative to their endurance stat END*10*1.2.

'Oh, Ok. Is it possible for that stat to increase that much?'

As stated before peak human would be around 20 in their stats. So it is possible to train and increase it. However to go beyond that they would need to be either blessed by some deity or magically enhanced. There are also ways by use of science to push the human body to have closer to 30 in these stats. An example would be Captain America His stats would be at an average of around 26. However this is not including hidden modifiers. Using Captain America as an example again his END stat would be 28 using that his HP would be 336 however his hp is actually about 700 because of the super soldier serum in his blood.

'Huh. Interesting, thanks for the info, Cardinal!'

Happy to help!

"Well, it was nice meeting you, Gabriel!" Penny says with a smile. "Hopefully I'll see you around."

"Nice meeting you as well, Penny." I wave to her as she walked off back to her home.

[LEVEL UP]

Opening up my stat page I quickly add 3 to my dexterity and 2 to my charisma making both of them become average. While my remaining 4 points were split between my intelligence and wisdom.

'I really need to stop spending so many of my points.'

Figuring I had nothing better to do today I started slowly making my way up north.

Opening the door to the carpenter shop the first thing I see is Robin sitting behind the counter reading a magazine. Hearing the door close she looked up at me.

"Good afternoon, Gabriel!" Robin said as she tossed the magazine to the side. "Having fun in the rain?"

"I find the rain to be quite soothing actually."

"Try not to catch a cold within your first week here… Now, What can I help you with?"

"I'll try... I was coming to see if you could take a look at a leak in my roof."

"A leak? I was sure that I got all those fixed... Yeah I can take a look at the leak and see about getting it fixed." she says with a smile. "So, how you liking the town so far?"

"The people here are nice, no constant yelling like back in the city, and the food down at the saloon is much better than microwaved gas station food."

Robin lets out a small giggle, "I can imagine home cooked meals would be better than that."

"Oh yeah, I heard there was a mine around here, could you point me in that direction?"

"Oh sorry, the mine is closed for now. we had a rock slide recently and it blocked access to the mine, work began to clear the rubble but it might still take a few weeks to be fully cleared out…" she said apologetically. "There are the rails into the mines, but they aren't functional, you could walk the rails but I do have to stress that if you do you tell someone as no one else will go in till the rocks are cleared out."

"Thanks for the concern I'll make sure to tell you or someone else when I go into the mines." I give her a small smile to try to put here at ease.

"Your Grandfather was a good man, don't get yourself killed down there, I don't want to explain myself in the afterlife." she jokes.

"Haha, you don't have to worry I'm tougher than I look, a few slimes can't do anything to me."

"Slimes are the least of your problems down there, you could fall down a hole and break a leg, trip and hit your head, get swarmed by insects the size of your head, hell I've heard stories from the adventurers of golems that can bludgeon you to death." she lists trying to tell me the dangers of the mines.

"I understand, Robin, and I promise I will come back out of the mines by the time it gets dark tomorrow. I am going to go back to town and get some supplies for my trip down tomorrow morning."

Robing let out a sigh, "Fine if you don't show up here by 9PM I am sending people down to get you."

"I can be back by then. See you tomorrow, Robin."

Leaving the carpenter with a slightly upset Robin behind I head back into town.

'Hey Cardinal, could you alert me at about 7:30PM tomorrow to head back up in the mine?'

Sure Thing, Gabby!

'Gabby?'

What? You needed a good nickname! So you are now Gabby!

'Fine.'

YAY!

'You are so childish.'

At least I'm not a dick like some other systems out there!

'I guess that's true.'

It was 7:45PM by the time I got back to the general store, the rain has stopped and water is falling off the roofs and trees.

I pushed open the door to find the place empty.

Walking over to the shelves I found Abigail reaching for the top trying to put up some miscellaneous products.

"Need some help?"

"Eep!" Abigail jumped and let out a small yelp.

"Sorry for sneaking up I guess."

She turned around, "Gabriel, sorry its not your fault, I didn't here you come in."

"Its fine… do you want help with that?"

"Please, dad went out on an errand real quick and told me to stock the shelves, but I'm not tall enough for the top shelf."

"Do you not have a step ladder?"

"We do, but my mom is using it right now."

Reaching over I put the items from a stack by her feet onto the shelf.

"So, do you guys stock climbing rope here?"

"Yeah, we have up to 500ft ropes in the back. What do you need climbing rope for anyways?"

"Looking to explore a bit of that old mine to the north, figured rope would be something good to bring with me."

"The mine? I want to explore it but dad wont let me, 'Too many monsters' he says, I can handle myself!" she starts getting upset at the thought.

"I'll bring you something up from the mine."

"Thanks, but I really want to go down there myself."

"Well sorry, I can't help you with that. Though you could help me pack some stuff for the trip down."

"Sure I'll even give you a discount on the stuff if you talk to my dad about me going into the mine at some point!"

"I can't promise anything but I'll talk to him after my trip."

"YAY!" she jumps and pumps here fist in the air.
