Poemshipping (Yugi x Miho)

Poetry, huh? Yugi thought. Why does Honda think I know anything about poetry?

He tapped his lip with his pencil, staring up at the ceiling. The library was quiet this time of day. Everyone was out playing sports or at their clubs. Yugi was the only person sitting at the tables. He kicked his feet back and forth, just a little too short to touch the ground from his chair. A small stack of books teetered in front of him, and a blank notebook stared up.

Honda wanted to write a poem on the jigsaw puzzle for Ribbon-chan, but he didn't know anything about poetry, apparently. He had asked Yugi to help him out. But Yugi didn't know anything about poetry either. Well, he had promised he would help Honda, so he would. It required a little research, though.

He glanced down at the book open next to the notebook.

the moon sinks

the stars hide themselves

the silent storm

the clouds sleep at midnight

looking up high in the sky

there is a shadow of a giant hand.

"Yikes, not that," Yugi said to himself. He flipped the page.

A soft footstep caught his attention. He glanced up. His heart jumped with surprise – oh gosh, he had forgotten Miho worked as a library aide!

The slender, pretty girl was busy reshelving books. The stack in her arms seemed hazardous; she looked like she was having trouble putting them all back. Yugi almost got up to see if she needed help, but then remembered what he was here for and starting blushing. He really hoped she wouldn't notice him and ask him what he was doing.

His luck didn't hold. As Miho slid the last book onto the shelf, she flicked her ponytail from her face. The motion caused her to catch a glimpse of Yugi out of the corner of her eye.

"Oh, Mutou-san," she said, turning with a soft smile. "Good afternoon. I don't see you here very often."

"Oh, yeah, haha," Yugi said, laughing nervously. He rubbed the back of his neck, hoping she wouldn't ask the reason for his blush. He couldn't give Honda away! "Just thought I'd stop by, I guess."

Miho's violet eyes glanced down to the book he was looking at.

"Oh, poetry?" she said. Her eyes suddenly lit up. "I didn't know you were into that sort of thing, Mutou-san."

"Oh, uh, yeah," Yugi said, feeling even more nervous than before. "Just, uh, got into it recently, I guess."

He cast around quickly for something to say.

"Uh, do you like poetry, Nosaka-san?"

"Oh, yes!" Miho said brightly. "My favorite is Kobayashi Issa. What about you?"

"Me? Um...I...I like Basho," Yugi said lamely, mentioning the only poet he could actually remember.

"Oh, yes, he has some very nice poetry too," Miho said. "Oh, well, I'll let you get back to your reading. We should talk more about poetry some time."

"Uh, yeah," Yugi said.

Miho floated away with a dreamy smile on her face, probably thinking about a poem or something. Yugi let out a breath. Well this was an interesting development...

A/N: That poem I used is actually a real Japanese poem. It's called Ooi naru Te no Kage, or The Shadow of a Giant Hand, written by Doi Bansui. Kobayashi Issa and Basho are real too. Basho is actually one of the oldest and well-known Japanese poets, so that's why he's the only one Yugi can think of. Kind of like someone might say they like Picasso or Van Gogh when asked their favorite artist; that's probably the first one they can think of because they actually don't know anything about art. XD Next is Plundershipping (Yami no Bakura x Yami no Yugi x Jonouchi).
