Chapter 3

Prancer froze in place. He didn't know what to say.

"Uh, could we … Try something else?"

"Sorry," Hunter said. "I taught you everything I knew with webs and fighting. The only thing left is your fangs; is that okay with you?" Hunter asked nervously.

"Uh …, yeah …, sure, nothing is wrong with that, it's just, do we have to learn fang attacks. I mean I am exponentially well with all my other attacks so why do I need to know about one little attack?"

"Well," Hunter started, "Webwings fangs are the most important weapon in a Webwings arsenal when they fight a Cavewing. They help puncture their thick scales and open them up to easy attacks in that area. So you see, that is why you should learn how to use fang attacks."

Prancer stuttered, "Uh… I see, but I really don't want to practice with them because… my teeth hurt."

"Your teeth don't hurt," Hunter said, "because you said at school today that your teeth are in tip top condition."

Shoot, I forgot I said that, Prancer thought.

"Prancer, is there something that you are hiding from me?"

Prancer started to back away to the entrance, "No, it's just, I have to be somewhere else!

With that Prancer bolted out of the cavern and ran down the tunnel. He could hear Hunter yelling behind him but he knew he was faster than Hunter and could easily outrun him.

"Prancer, wait up! Just tell me what's going on!"

"Never!" Prancer yelled. "You wouldn't understand!"

Prancer turned into another tunnel to get away from Hunter but hit a dead end and was trapped. Hunter then appeared behind him.

"Prancer please, tell me what is going on. Why are you so sensitive about your fangs?"

"I, uh I…" Prancer couldn't find the words to use.

Unfortunately Hunter put the pieces together in his brain and said it before Prancer could think of another excuse.

"Oh, is it because you have no fangs?"

This was the moment Prancer had feared his whole life, his flaw being discovered, him being not allowed in the army, his whole life ruined forever. He put his head down and nodded.

"Oh wow, that must be a pretty hard secret to keep. I understand why you didn't want to do any training regarding them. Do you know why you don't have fangs?"

"NO! OBVIOUSLY I DON'T! IF I DID THEN I WOULDN'T BE HIDING IT FROM EVERYONE NOW WOULD I?!" Prancer was freaking out now that his secret was out.

"Woah, calm down Prancer, I am not going to tell anyone."

This caught Prancer off guard. He always thought when someone figured it out, they would tell everyone else and that his life would be ruined.

"Wait, why aren't you going to tell anyone?" Prancer said.

"Well, because I want to help you get to the bottom of this and I understand what would happen to your life if everyone knew about this. I don't want that to happen to you so I want to help you figure this out."

Prancer was at a loss for words. "T-Thanks," he stuttered. "I never thought anyone would hear me out."

"Well I have been helping you out with training for years and I am your best friend and friends stick together, don't they?"

Prancer stopped and thought about this for a sec. It never occurred to him that friends wouldn't tell on each other, he just assumed anyone would expose him once they found out.

"So best friend, how do we begin with figuring out this mystery?" Hunter said.

Prancer didn't know. "I have no idea, I have been trying to figure it out ever since I learned about it when I was two but I have not been able to find anything that explains why I am like this."

"Hmm," Hunter said. "Lets see, have there been any other records of Webwings with no fangs?"

"NO, OBVIOUSLY I HAVE ALREADY CHECKED THAT AND THERE HAS BEEN NO RECORD OF ANY!"

"Ok, calm down Prancer, we will figure this out."

"BUT WHAT IF WE DON'T? WHAT IF SOMEONE ELSE FIGURES THIS OUT AND TELLS EVERYONE? THEN MY LIFE WOULD BE RUINED!"

Hunter grabbed Prancer's snout shut.

"Well they will definitely hear you screaming right now like you have gone mad if you don't stay QUIET RIGHT NOW!"

"Ok, I'll be quiet, but what are we going to do?"

Hunter walked around the room and thought for a moment.

"Well on one talon, we could ask questions to adults if there have been any Webwings with no fangs. That may attract unwanted attention to us though so on the other talon we could sneak into the queen's library to see if any of the books there have anything about fangless Webwings."

"Do you really think your mom will have anything on that?" Prancer asked.

"Well she does keep all the books Webwings have written and also has some Cavewings books as well."

"She has CAVEWING BOOKS?!" Prancer asked, startled. "Aren't those supposed to be destroyed if we find them?"

"Well she is the queen so she gets to bend the rules as she wants to."

"Do you think that any of those books have anything about my condition, Hunter. I mean seriously, as far as we know I may be the only Webwing ever to not have fangs."

"Well, Prancer, it is a better idea that waiting and hiding from everyone until one day your secret will be exposed to the whole tribe."

Prancer couldn't argue back with that. Hunter was always the smart one in school and here it showed very well. Of course it is a better idea to go and try to find out information than hide from everyone for the rest of your life.

Prancer knew this was the only option. "Ok, fine but how will I even get into the library? I know it isn't hard for you since you are her son but what about me? I don't think the queen will just let any random dragonet into her library even if the dragonet is friends with her son."

"I know that," Hunter said. "So, we will sneak you in."

"How?" Prancer asked.

"Tomorrow night when everyone is asleep I will sneak down to the library and unlock the door for you. You will come in and we will search for any books that may talk about your condition."

"Ok, I'll meet you there tomorrow night. See ya Hunter."

"Bye Prancer."

Prancer walked back to his web. He didn't feel panicked about his secret for the first time in years. Him and Hunter may be able to get to the bottom of his no-fangs issue and then he won't have to worry about it anymore. He could focus on destroying Cavewings when he went out on his own.

I may not have fangs but I can still easily kill any Cavewing I come across. They will all fear me while I kill them one by one until none of them stand.

Prancer snuck past his parents again and hopped into his bed and fell asleep, waiting until tomorrow where he and Hunter would figure out his issue. The next day Prancer went through his day like normal and went to the Queen's library at night. Hunter opened up the door for him and he went inside.

"So, what are we looking for exactly?" Prancer said.

"I am not sure, Prancer. Just try looking for books that talk about Webwings fangs or something about Webwings being different from the rest."

Prancer and Hunter started checking through any and all books in the library but were hitting dead end after dead end.

Come on, there has to be something here that will help me out. Am I really the only case of a Webwing being different from the others?

"I think I got something," Hunter called out.

Prancer and Hunter started to read a book called The Secrets of Webwing Fangs when they heard footsteps outside. Then there was a knock on the door.

"Queen Aurora, we need you to come to the door immediately."

Prancer didn't recognize the voice but Hunter did.

"That's Java, general of the Webwing army. I wonder what he is doing here?"

Unfortunately for Prancer, Hunter's question was answered seconds later by Java.

"Open up," Java said. "We need to talk to you about a fangless Webwing."
