Chapter 5

"Hi," the Cavewing said. "I know you must be confused but please hear me out first."

Prancer was in too shocked of a state to even respond to her. Why would a Cavewing help him? They were on two different tribes. He was a Webwing and she was a Cavewing. Their tribes were at war! Why help the enemy?

"Wha.. but… why?" Prancer stuttered. He was at a loss for words again.

"I know what you are going to say, 'Why would I help a Webwing when I am a Cavewing.' Well I have been wanting to help out other dragons since I was little and I believe that our tribes can be peaceful again."

"But… you know we are enemies. We are AT WAR! YOUR TRIBE STARTED THE WAR. I SHOULD GET RID OF YOU RIGHT NOW!"

"You know that is a pretty harsh way of thanking a dragon who saved you from falling to your death.

"I WAS FINE. I DIDN'T NEED YOUR HELP!"

She gave him a look that showed that she didn't believe him at all. "Are you sure because those wings of yours say otherwise."

Prancer stopped himself there. She's right. I did need help. I would have been doomed if it wasn't for her. She saved my life and this is how I am repaying her. BUT SHE IS THE ENEMY. MY SWORN ENEMY I AM TO ELIMINATE! Are you sure though that she is the enemy, she did just save you. PROBABLY TO JUST FINISH ME OFF NOW! Seems too risky, why save your enemy just to kill them later. WELL… YOU SEE…, Prancer couldn't come up with anything to justify his anger.

"I GUESS I did need help. Now what are you going to do, capture me and bring me to the Cavewings as a prisoner. I promise you I will not be an easy prisoner to handle.

"No, why would I want to take you as a prisoner?"

"Uh, that obvious Cavewing, to extract information out of me, use me as a bargaining chip against the Webwings, the list goes on and on."

"I don't want that to happen to you. No I save you because I care about dragons and because you needed help. What's your name by the way?"

"I am not telling you, CAVEWING!"

"That's fine if you don't want to, my name's Flint."

Prancer looked at Flint with a puzzled expression. "Why would you tell the enemy what your name is?"

"Well you don't seem like an enemy to me," Flint said.

"How do you know that? I could just be waiting until your back is turned to attack you!"

"Well, considering how you haven't done that or attacked me yet and that your wings are badly hurt, I think that you need help, therefore you aren't my enemy."

Prancer wanted to resist her words. He didn't want to be soft. They are my enemy. CAVEWINGS KILLED MY SISTER! But the longer Flint talked to him, he got more of an urge not to attack her even when her back is turned.

"Fine, my name is Prancer," he grumbled.

"Nice to meet you, Prancer. Say, what are you doing out here in Cavewing territory? Seems weird for a Webwing dragonet to be wandering out here by themselves."

Prancer wanted to keep the reason he was out here a secret, but then again this dragon didn't seem dangerous and had helped him out when he needed it.

Maybe everyone isn't out to get me when they learn about my truth. Then again I don't want to tell the enemy the real reason why he was running away. I could make up a half-truth, to convince them enough to not ask any more questions.

"Well, you see, the Webwings were hunting me down because…" Prancer frantically thought of something to say, "because… I am an undercover spy for the Cavewings.

"YOU ARE?" Flint said, sounding way too excited about it. "What have you found out? Do you know how to end the war?"

"Well you see Flint, I have only been one for two weeks. They found me out so I didn't have enough time to get information."

"Oh, I see," Flint said, seeming sad about that fact. "Well let's go back to the Cavewings. They would love to know what you have found out." She started walking towards the exit.

This was his chance, he could either attack her right now and run away or slip away from her to escape. He shouldn't follow her, never trust a Cavewing, is what he was always told.

"You coming?" Flint called.

But then again she helped him out when he was in trouble. She didn't seem like the type of dragon to be able to carry out an elaborate plan. Her plans seemed to be in the actions she took.

"Wait," Prancer called. "Do we have to go back to the Cavewings. Can't we avoid them and maybe find out something that could help end the war."

Flint's eyes widened, "Do you really think we can do that! That would be amazing! I can just picture it now, Cavewing and Webwing end centuries war against two tribes. Think about it, Prancer, we would be heroes!"

Prancer did like the sound of being a hero but a hero with a Cavewing? No way, not right. He shouldn't even be with this Cavewing, he should be trying to get away from her, but then again, it felt like there was a force making him stay with her. It felt wrong to him but he couldn't push it away.

"Listen Flint, maybe we could get down to the bottom of what the two tribes are fighting over, then figure out what to do from there."

"Really? That would be amazing! I always thought that it was weird that our tribes are fighting over some sort of artifact. I mean seriously why not just share it with each other.

That is what the Webwings wanted to do, Cavewing. Have you forgotten or don't care? Weird Cavewing.

"So Flint, do you know where the artifact is or any clue where to start?"

"Nope but I am sure we will be able to figure that out." She nudged his side. "I heard Webwings are super smart. Is that true?"

"Yes, now come on, where are we going to start?"

I am not really working with this Cavewing, Prancer said to himself. I will use her to find the artifact and then make sure the Webwings get their hands on it. Maybe then they will let me back into the tribe without any fuss.

"Oh I know!" Flint said abruptly. "Now I know you don't want to go meet any Cavewings but trust me, this one Cavewing may be able to help us." She sounded so excited about this person, Prancer noticed.

"Fine, but you have to bring them here, I AM NOT GOING THERE!"

"Ok fine, Mr. Grouchy Snout. You wait here and I will go get her.

Flint turned away and started bouncing down the tunnel. Prancer was about to roll back over and go asleep but something on Flint caught his eye. On her underside there was a great slash from front to back that looked like it healed over but not perfect.

Wait a second, didn't I give a Cavewing a slash on its belly years ago. Is this by chance the same Cavewing from those years ago. Great if it is, then the universe is mocking me about how I have now teamed up with a Cavewing I tried to kill years ago.

Prancer waited for what felt like forever to a point where he wondered if Flint was going to come through on her promise.

What if she went back for soldiers to come and capture me. I mean, she IS THE ENEMY. But then again, she doesn't seem like the type to betray someone. ARGH, WHAT IS HAPPENING TO HIS BRAIN. Cavewings are the enemy so why is he putting trust into this one. But there was that same feeling rising up to his heart again. What is this? Caring, Affection, Argh I hate it. Why am I having these emotions now?

Prancer finally heard footsteps coming back down the tunnel. Flint appeared with a Cavewing that had a purple rock color to its scales. She looked nervous like she was ready to bolt when she saw Prancer but Flint whispered something to her and got her to calm down.

"Prancer," Flint said, "I would like you to meet Amethyst."

Amethyst! She is who my mom wanted to find. But she is a Cavewing. WHY DID MY MOM KNOW A CAVEWING? Today's confusion just kept coming and coming.

"One second Flint." Prancer said. "Hello Amethyst, my mom Frisky said to find you and you would be able to tell me everything I need to know about why I have no fangs. So care to explain?"

Amethyst looked nervous, almost as if she didn't want to tell but she started to speak. "Well you see Prancer, it happened before you were born. No one even knew except Hopper, Frisky, and I."

Prancer's heart felt like it knew where this was going but he wanted to deny it, yell, fight, do something, but he stood there and listened.

"You see Prancer, Hopper is your real dad but Frisky isn't your real mom. I am your real mom."

No, it can't be.

"Prancer, you are half-Cavewing."
