Paleshipping (Kisara x Amane)

Being a wandering spirit wasn't too bad, actually. At least, once she found Set. Then Kisara didn't mind being unseen, unheard, and unnoticed. It was enough to stay by his side and protect him, even if he never knew she was there. She was all right with this.

She was, she thought stubbornly. She really was. After all, few others got to stay at the side of their beloved long after their death. So this was okay. She would be okay.

The sun shone through the ceiling high windows of KaibaCorp's highest floor, where Set – or rather, Seto – was sitting at his sharp-edged desk working furiously at a computer. Kisara sat on the desk facing him. The cards that she was tied to were in the drawer beneath her. She was glad that Seto brought the Blue Eyes White Dragon cards with him everywhere. It let her stay close to him. Sometimes, she was certain that he could almost see her, almost know that she was there. It was those moments that she lived for. Right now, though, he was absorbed in his work. Kisara let her eyes travel down the strong curves of his face, going up to look into those deep blue eyes that were so very familiar. She longed to reach out and touch him. But she knew her hand would only go through him.

The doors to Seto's office slid open. Seto's eyes snapped up, a blood vessel pounding in his forehead.

"I though I said I didn't want any visitors until I finished this –" he started.

Kisara squeezed her hands together in her lap happily. It was Yugi and his friends. She liked Yugi. She had been watching him ever since his grandfather had shown him one of her cards. It was due to Yugi that Seto had returned to his normal, gruff, but not evil self. She owed him so much, and she often wished she could talk to him. She liked his friends too: the blunt, impulsive Jonouchi, the stalwart, loyal Honda, the motherly, mature Anzu, and the gentle, quiet Ryo. But thinking about the friends only made her heart hurt a little bit more. She could never talk to them, never let them know that she was here. She couldn't remember having friends like Yugi and the others. She longed for the chance to be alive again.

Good, she thought to herself. Seto needs to get out of this office. I hope they drag him out.

"What are you all doing here?" Seto asked, his eyes darkening.

"We just came to visit," Yugi said cheerfully.

Movement flickered somewhere behind Ryo. As Yugi and Seto continued to bicker, Kisara leaned her head over, curious.

The barest sliver of a face peeked out from behind Ryo. Long white hair, big brown eyes, and pale skin – she was like a little mini Ryo. And against all reasoning, she was looking right at Kisara. Kisara sucked in a breath, her eyes widening. She slid off the desk. After a hesitation, she stepped forward.

"Hello?" she said. "Can you see me?"

The girl squeaked and hid behind Ryo's legs. Kisara tensed. But none of the others responded. Ryo kept shaking his head at the back-and-forth between Yugi and Seto.

The girl's face reappeared from around Ryo's legs. Then slowly, she stepped out into full view. A full head and a half shorter than Kisara, she looked exactly like a female Ryo. She clasped her hands behind her back, ducking her head and scuffling her foot.

"Sorry," she said. "I...I wasn't trying to stare."

Kisara's heart fluttered. She had been seen! Someone had seen her! But still, Yugi and his friends didn't seem to acknowledge their conversation. The truth dawned on Kisara in a wave.

"You're not alive either, are you?" she asked.

The girl shook her head. Kisara's hand went to her heart. Oh gods, she was so tiny. She didn't deserve to lose her life so soon.

"My name is Kisara," she said.

"I'm Amane," the girl said. "Amane Bakura."

"Oh," Kisara said, looking up at Ryo. "Is he..."

"He's my big brother," Amane said, smiled broadly.

"And you're sticking close to your brother, huh?" Kisara said with a soft smile.

Amane glanced up at her brother and smiled. She nodded.

"I get to stay with him, even if he doesn't know it," Amane said. "And I can chase away some spirits that are bothering him. Not all of them, though. I guess I'm not very scary."

Kisara laughed softly. But then Amane's face started to fall.

"But he doesn't know I'm here," Amane said slowly. "I wish I could tell him. I thought a ghost could do stuff, like make things fall, or write on things. But I can't touch anything. He doesn't see me."

She started to wring her hands in front of her.

"Will he ever see me?"

Kisara barely even hesitated. She crossed the last bit of space between them and scooped Amane up into a hug.

That instant was a glorious one for the both of them. For the first time in ages, they could feel something. They could feel the warmth of each other's bodies against each other, the pressure of the soft hug, and realize that they were actually able to affect something. Amane's shoulders trembled in Kisara's arms. Kisara's shoulders started to shake too. And then they were both crying, letting the cold salty tears run down their cheeks. But they were laughing too, alternating between a giggle and a sob, neither of them quite sure how to feel. Slowly, the feelings subsided, and they merely sat there, Amane wrapped up in Kisara's arms.

Amane hiccuped.

"Are you staying with that other boy?" she asked.

"Yes," Kisara said.

"Ryo's friend Jonouchi doesn't like him," Amane said.

Kisara smiled.

"Well, my Seto doesn't care much for Jonouchi, either."

Amane giggled. Then she hiccuped again, still on the verge of tears.

"Does he see you?" she asked.

"No."

They sat in silence.

"You know, Amane?" Kisara said. "You could come and visit me anytime."

"Really?"

"Really."

Amane snuggled into Kisara's arms and sighed.

"That sounds nice," she said. "I think I will."

"I would like that," Kisara said.

A/N: Aw, why are they so adorable? I think if I brought Kisara back to life, I might actually ship her with Ryo, strangely enough. Then Amane could also come back and Kisara could be her big sister. :) Next is Overlookshipping (Roba x Mokuba). Guys, we made it to the O's!
