Ouijashipping (Ryo x Dark Necrofear)
(Missed this one the first time...)
It was only in hindsight that he realized that he shouldn't have done it.
It was his second year of middle school. His mother and sister had been dead a year. And this was the third time that his newly made friends had entered comas, only hours after playing a game of Monster World. The exact same circumstances, every single time.
Ryo swallowed nervously. This was the kind of thing his mother had always told him never to do. This was the kind of thing his father should have been there to tell him not to do it. But his father was in Brazil, and his mother was dead. So Ryo Bakura was sitting in the middle of his living room with his Monster World board set up and a Ouija board in the middle.
All of the lights were out but for a few candles sitting on an end table. He had to do this right – he was almost positive that his Monster World board was possessed, and that was what was hurting his friends. If he could find out what the ghost wanted, and maybe managed to get rid of it, his friends should be okay – right?
He placed his hand on the board.
"Um..." he started. His voice caught, and he had to clear his throat. "Uh, excuse me. Is anything – is anyone, here?"
The Ouija board didn't move. Ryo leaned forward a little more, his Millennium Ring, his good-luck charm, dangling above the board. The spikes glittered in the candle light as they swayed.
"Hello?" he said. "My name is Ryo Bakura. Is there a spirit here?"
Still, the board refused to budge. Maybe he was wrong. Maybe this was just something really silly – Ouija boards didn't really work. Right? He leaned back, disappointed. What else could be wrong with his friends, then?
"I don't want to be alone anymore," he muttered.
The Millennium Ring shifted as he started to stand up.
And then the arrow started to move.
Ryo froze. He wasn't touching it. He wasn't anywhere near it. He couldn't be affecting this – wait, wait, it was pointing to letters!
Ryo grabbed a nearby pad of paper and a pencil and started to scribble.
"Y-o-u-d-o-n-t-h-a-v-e-t-o-b-e-a-l-o-n-e," he read. "You don't have to be alone."
He stared at the board. Despite the reassuring words, there was a chill creeping down his spine. The Millennium Ring on his neck felt somehow a little heavier than usual. Ryo swallowed – his throat was dry.
"W-who are you?" he whispered.
The board moved more quickly this time.
"I am Dark Necrofear," he whispered aloud.
The name sent another shudder through him. It sounded like darkness, evil. It sounded like death.
"What do you want with me?" he asked. "Why are you here?"
A pause. Then the board started to move.
"I am here...because...he called me..." Ryo read. "He? Who's he?"
The Millennium Ring got so heavy so quickly that Ryo gasped, his neck and head yanked downward. He grabbed the Ring with both hands, but no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't lift it. He was trapped, bent awkwardly towards the ground, completely helpless as the Ouija board started to emanate a dark, smoky black and purple cloud that spiraled up and up into a thick black pillar, until it materialized.
Ryo screamed. The creature loomed over him where he was trapped – a blue skinned demon with pointed ears and black eyes, a pinpoint of glowing red as pupils that fixed on him. A dead looking baby doll dangled in its arms, missing one arm and both its legs, the head cracked, with dead looking porcelain eyes.
Ryo tried to scream again, but those eyes on him seemed to squeeze out any sounds. He could not move – pinned by the Millennium Ring – as the creature reached towards him –
He woke up. Sunlight trickled through the blinds. His head hurt, a bit, but mostly he just felt tired. With a groan, he sat himself up. After a beat, he got up and went to open up the blinds. He glanced around the room. The Monster World board was set up in the middle of the room, like it had been in the dream...was it a dream?
Had to be, he decided. There was no Ouija board anywhere he looked, and the candles on the end table were gone. He wasn't sure if he even owned any candles, much less a Ouija board.
He fingered the Millennium Ring, a little nervously. But it felt normally weighted, just like always, and he felt even more nervous when he considered taking it off. No, he would leave it on.
It was only then that he noticed the thin stack of cards on the end table. Cocking his head, he walked over and picked them up. Duel Monsters cards...when had he gotten these?
And then, for some reason, he forgot that they were there. He placed the cards on the table, and his mind wandered to other things.
Behind him, the deck released a thin stream of black smoke...
