Onyxshipping (Dark Magician x Magician of Black Chaos)
. . .
((Mmkay so this involves my interpretation of the Magician of Black Chaos, an elite magician in a special mage-knight division called Black Chaos. His name is Dubhán~ ))
. . .
He knocked softly at the door only to hear a swear, a "poof" sort of explosion, and then see neon green smoke creeping under the door and drifting lazily along the floor.
Dubhán, the highest ranking mage-knight of the Black Chaos division, frowned as he pushed the door open slightly and peered through.
"…is this a bad time?"
Mahad coughed into his hand, waving smoke away from the beaker that was pouring out with a multicolored gas now.
"No, no, it's fine…just testing something."
"Did it work?"
"No, but it wasn't supposed to," Mahad said absently as he began to scribble something down on a notepad.
Dubhán grimaced. He didn't understand academic types. Didn't understand why Mahad was so content to remain in his position at the academy when he was the highest ranking Dark Magician in the entire dimension and probably powerful enough to be inducted into the ranks of the Sages. He was an incredible warrior and should probably be in Dubhán's own division. But the Dark Magician was quite content to remain in his scholarly position, only rising to action when a particular someone called for it…and since that particular person had long ago passed into the afterlife, he seemed content to remain out of the battlefield for the rest of his eternity.
"Sorry," he said finally, looking up from his work. "Can I help you with something?"
"I don't mean to bother you, but something came up in the field that we wanted you to have a look at…"
Dubhán passed over the sketches of the relic they had found and not wanted to move.
"Is this another attempt to recruit me onto your taskforce?" Mahad said with the hint of a smile.
"No, no, I promised I wouldn't pressure you anymore," Dubhán said. "My team can't figure it out, and thought you might be able to decipher some of it. It's from the Chaos Times and it's probably volatile. We need to figure out how to make it less dangerous."
"Right, right," Mahad said—his mind was already somewhere else as he flipped through the pages, interest sparking in his dark eyes.
Dubhán tried not to smile at the growing intrigue that crossed the Dark Magician's face as he began to mutter and clatter around the lab looking for a pen and pad where he could start taking notes on what he was seeing.
"I'll probably need to see the stele in person to make any conclusions," said Mahad. "Although theses markings remind me a lot of some of the ones found by the Mausoleums, which could imply that we're dealing with something very dangerous, very dangerous indeed, but also very old and probably with a lot of knowledge from the Chaos Times…I'll need to gather up my supplies and things…"
This time, Dubhán couldn't stop his smile as Mahad began to bustle around looking for his hat and gear and still rambling about what that one symbol probably meant and perhaps it was a good idea if he brought along a particular solution that he had been experimenting on that might make the slab less likely to emit dangerous magic radiation.
He hadn't been entirely truthful about not trying to get Mahad on his team. Mahad liked field work. Dubhán needed someone like that on his team, and Mahad's combat experience wasn't a bad bonus.
All he had to do was make things seem interesting enough to the academic magician.
. . .
A/N: yeahhhhh. Idk. More world-building for my Yu-Gi-Oh universe I guess. Next is Oliveshipping (Rishid x Priest Karim).
