Occultshipping (Yami no Bakura x Kotsuzaka)

(This one is kind of dependent on my headcanon that Kotsuzaka is a Japanese-American. You know, because he has a Japanese name and yet he was hanging out with Bandit Keith. So this story takes place in America, mostly because I don't think Japan celebrates Halloween.)

Kotsuzaka beamed at himself in the mirror. He was completely decked out in purposefully tattered clothes and fake blood – he looked exactly like Dark Necrofear. Lucky for him he had found that card on the ground in Duelist Kingdom: it was a super rare, and it was hard to find good reference pictures on the Internet. He was sure to get a couple of screams out of this, hiding in the hedges outside. And if that didn't work, well, he had his collection of jump scare decorations leading up to the house.

He peered outside. The sun was beginning to set, and groups of people were wandering up and down the street. Kids dressed like princesses, ladybugs, and cowboys ran ahead from their parents, eager to get candy. Teenagers dressed like movie serial killers were armed with eggs and toilet paper, which they were trying to hide under their shirts. But Kotsuzaka was the Halloween expert, and he could pick out the bulges easily. He rubbed his hands together. Okay. He had to get out to his hedges without getting noticed. Then, all the people coming up to the house would be focused on the scarecrow sitting on the patio, since he had been hiding in that last year. But then he'd come out of the hedge instead! It was perfect!

Grinning madly, he headed for the door. Halloween – best night of the entire year.

He managed to get himself into the hedges without a problem. Nobody noticed the rustling. His first victims wandered up the path: a couple of teens who were definitely too old to be trick or treating. They saw the bowl of candy left out on the patio and made a beeline for it. Both of them grabbed giant handfuls, ignoring the "take one" sign.

He was pretty sure they peed their pants when he burst out at them screaming for brains.

He scared off another set of teenagers, and made one little girl cry (he got hit across the head with the mom's purse for that), and by then the sun had completely disappeared behind the horizon. Now this was where it got really good, because everyone's minds were turning towards the occult, and their senses were on overdrive...

A shadow started down the path up to Kotsuzaka's house. Something snapped around the figure's ankles, like a long cloak or something. Whatever it was, it was black, so it was difficult to make him out in the night. If not for his head of long white hair, Kotsuzaka might not have noticed him. Kotsuzaka could not stop his grin.

The stranger triggered a spider trap, and a giant fake spider fell right on top of his head. In a fluid motion, the stranger snapped around. Kotsuzaka thought he saw something glint through the darkness, but it happened too quickly to see. The stranger paused, and looked at the ground, where the spider must have fallen. It was hard to tell, but Kotsuzaka thought he heard the boy swear softly. He continued down the path. He triggered three more jump scares, but barely even flinched this time. He reached the bowl of candy. But he didn't even seem to look at it. The moonlight glinted across his eyes. He turned his head slowly around. For a moment, he cocked it, like a cat listening for a mouse.

Kotsuzaka was starting to feel a little more than nervous. What was with this guy? The only bad thing about Halloween was that it brought out all the creepers.

Well, he'd give this one a scare. See how he liked that.

With a perfected screech, Kotsuzaka burst from the hedges and hurtled at the man.

Two seconds later, he found himself flat on his face with an elbow digging into his spine.

"Ah, there's the little zombie," said a voice in his ear. "I knew I'd be able to find you on a night like this."

Kotsuzaka flailed his arms, trying to get the guy off of him. What was with this guy?

"You have something of mine. Tell me, is this your house, or are you just lurking in different places to get cheap scares?"

The pressure on his back lifted, and he was able to pull his face off the ground.

"What the hell?" he said. "Who do you think you are, attacking people like that? Even if I scared you, that's uncalled for!"

His attacker laughed softly. For some reason, the sound sent a shiver down his spine.

"Scare me? Oh, you have a long way to go before you can frighten me. Especially on a night like this...ah, there is so much fear running rampant. I rather enjoy the taste of it."

Kotsuzaka could not remember feeling so scared. Who was this guy, and what did he want?

"Let me up already," he said.

"Is this your house, little zombie?"

"I'm not a zombie, and why do you care who's house it is?"

"Then it is. Thank you very much. I'll retrieve my property myself."

Kotsuzaka suddenly found himself able to stand. He scrambled to his feet. The white haired boy was heading for the door.

"Hey! That's breaking and entering! And I don't have anything of yours, you weirdo!"

The man glanced back. Violet eyes caught the light, like a snake's eyes glinting through the darkness. Kotsuzaka withered.

"Does Dark Necrofear ring a bell?" he said. "Of course it does; you're dressed as a horrid facsimile."

"Huh? That's not yours, I found it!"

The man's lips tightened. Then it grew into a slow smile.

"I think you'll find..."

Something weird was happening to the air. It looked all smoky and purple. But his fog machine was broken, wasn't it?

"That Dark Necrofear's loyalty..."

A shape was growing in the darkness. Kotsuzaka squinted...

"Belongs to me."

Dark Necrofear materialized out of thin air. Narrow, hollow eyes lashed out at him. That ragged baby doll hung from one hand. For a second, Kotsuzaka could only stare with his mouth hanging open. Then Dark Necrofear screamed.

Kotsuzaka bolted. Halfway down the path, he tripped over something. He scrambled back to his feet and continued running – but not before he had seen what he tripped on.

That fake spider that had fallen on the man. Cut cleanly in half.
