Mizushipping (Priest Set x Kisara)
(A culture note: "sen" means brother and "ami-ab" means sister in Egyptian. In ancient Egypt, it was common for lovers to refer to each other as "brother" and "sister" as a term of endearment, kinda like "sweetheart" or something like that. That's actually the reason Egyptologists used to think all Egyptians married their siblings, when in reality, only the royal family did that. I retrieved these translations from An Egyptian Hieroglyphic Dictionary by E.A. Wallis Budge, written in 1920, and I have no reason to believe the book is inaccurate. I have posted a link to the scanned book in my author's note in case you are interested. :) Without further ado, please enjoy.)
"Love...is pointless. It merely distracts one from their duties. You would do well to remember that."
"It is easier said than done, Set. Just wait...someday you will understand..."
"I sincerely doubt it."
He woke slowly, the fragments of the memory-dream fading away with the morning. He lay perfectly still for the breadth of heartbeat, his mind falling back towards that memory again. Who had he been speaking to? How long ago had he said something like that? It had been...Mahad, probably. It didn't take a genius to interpret the glances that he and Isis often shared in the quiet moments when they thought no one was looking. But they never went any farther with it. It was only the glances, the slight brush of their hands against each other as they passed one another in the corridors. Set could not remember why he had gotten so irritated with Mahad for that. Neither he nor Isis ever let their feeling interfere with their duties. They were so good at keeping it under cover, even from each other. Somehow, it had irritated Set, though. He wondered why.
A soft sigh caused him to leave his thoughts. He shifted ever so slightly, unwilling to disturb the sleeping form cradled against his shoulder. Kisara was warm against him, a constant presence even in sleep. He looked sideways at her. Her face was pressed against his shoulder, his arm laying against the back of her small, pale shoulders. The blue-white of her silvery hair draped all down her frame, long bangs falling across her still closed eyes. He could feel her steady breaths against his side, her heartbeat against his hand.
She looked so peaceful. He couldn't help but smile as a warmth spread through his chest. With his free hand, he reached over to brush the long bangs from her eyes. She stirred slightly, but then drifted back into dreams. He smiled again. She was so warm...he could not remember what it was like to lay alone. It must have been cold.
Quietly, he leaned down to kiss her forehead. Her eyes opened then, the deepest blue awakening to the morning. She looked up at him from her place nestled close. She smiled that quiet smile of hers.
"Good morning, sen," she whispered.
"Good morning, my ami-ab," he whispered back.
She sighed deeply and snuggled closer to him. Neither of them, it seemed, were in too much of a hurry to leave their spot of deep warmth. Set pulled her closer to him, breathing in her scent.
"Love is...pointless."
The old him would have been mortified to see himself now. Set had to smile at that. Him, smiling at himself for being stuffy. He never thought he'd see the day.
"I should probably apologize to Mahad," he murmured.
"Hm?" Kisara murmured back.
Set smiled. He seemed to be doing a lot of that, lately.
"It's nothing." He paused. "I love you."
"I love you more, sen."
He laughed softly.
"Not a chance. I definitely love you more."
Kisara answered by kissing him on the lips.
A/N: This story is a kitten's dream because there is fluff everywhere! (okay, that was stupid, please forgive me ^^;). Seriously, though. That was fluff and nothing more, but I don't even care, because I love me some fluff. It's nice to see Set being a nice guy for once. :D Next is Mistshipping (Ryouta x Otogi). Oh, and here's the link to the Egyptian hieroglyphic dictionary: /details/egyptianhierogly01budguoft
