Minorshipping (Otogi x Ryo)

It was one of Otogi's most embarrassing moments the day that he first saw Ryo Bakura and thought for a moment 'wow, she's hot.'

Half a second later he realized his error when Yugi introduced him and Otogi realize that Ryo was wearing the boy's uniform and was most certainly not a girl. He had started blushing then, Yugi had wanted to know why, and Otogi had managed to ward him off with mumbled excuse about getting over a fever.

The way Ryo had sighed a bit made Otogi think that the white-haired boy understood exactly what Otogi had been thinking.

They didn't really talk again for another few weeks – and then Otogi found himself on duty for clean up after class, and the name next to his made him half groan under his breath. He had thought Miho Nosaka was going to be assigned the same day as him. What a missed opportunity.

The bell rang at the end of the day and loud, chattering teenagers filtered out through the sliding door, until only Otogi and Ryo remained. They stood silently in the room, not quite looking at each other for a while, as the sounds of people leaving the hallways faded into the deepening afternoon.

Otogi cleared his throat, a bit awkwardly. He didn't really like hanging around boys. He didn't know how to handle them – girls were easy. And Ryo was more difficult than most for him to understand. He was too quiet and reserved, and he still looked like a girl, which just made Otogi feel more awkward.

"Well," he said. "I'll start moving the desks…"

"Sure. I'll get the brooms and stuff," Ryo said, ducking his head.

He disappeared into the hallway for a few moments, and, trying to move quickly but also trying not to hurt himself (physical exertion was not his strong point) Otogi started shoving desks out of the way. Ryo returned with the brooms and buckets and stuff, and silently handed a broom to Otogi.

Guess he wasn't the only one feeling awkward.

The pair worked in silence, sweeping, washing the chalkboard. Otogi's eyes kept wandering longingly towards the window, wishing that this would just end already.

"Um…so…" Ryo said suddenly, startling Otogi. "How do you know Yugi, again?"

"Huh?" Otogi said, momentarily caught off guard. "Oh. Long story….my dad didn't like his grandpa. So I ended up playing a game against him to try and run the Game Shop out of business…"

He half-laughed, feeling more awkward than before. What kind of sense was he even making?

"Great way to meet a new friend, huh?" he said, trying to diffuse his own weird statement.

To his surprise, Ryo laughed a little too.

"Don't worry, I completely understand," he said. "Yugi and I didn't quite get off on the right foot, either. And it involved a game, too."

"Oh, really?" Otogi said. He looked over at Ryo, actually looking at him for the first time. "I didn't know you played games."

"I like Monster World," Ryo admitted.

"Oh, I've played that. It's pretty cool – I based some of my DDD monsters off of it."

"DDD…? Oh! I had forgotten; Yugi told me that you designed that game."

"Do you play?" Otogi said, excited in spite of himself.

"A little. I haven't gotten whole lot of good dice, though."

Otogi grinned.

"You should come by my shop sometime! I can cut you a deal for some good ones."

Ryo smiled back, a little bit shyly.

"That would be fun," he said. "Thank you."

Otogi felt like a weight had been lifted off his chest. The awkwardness of the situation had finally lifted, and he could breathe again. Ryo seemed like a pretty cool guy, after all. He should have known, seeing as he was Yugi's friend and all.

"Well, glad to know the awkward part of this is over," Otogi said, grinning.

Ryo laughed as he dunked his cloth in the bucket, before going back to cleaning the blackboard.

"I know. I'm no good at the first part of starting a conversation. It's always been hard for me."

"I hear ya."

"I wasn't sure how to react when I first met you…sorry. I'm really shy, and…"

He blushed, and stopped talking. Otogi blinked, pausing in his sweeping. He looked over, but Ryo wasn't looking at him.

"What? And what?" he said.

"It's nothing."

"Oh come on. What?"

Ryo was still blushing, and wouldn't look right at Otogi.

"…I…I thought you were a girl," he said, looking down. "When Yugi introduced you. I'm even worse with girls, so…"

Otogi stared at him. Then he snorted. He clapped his hand over his mouth, but his shoulders wouldn't stop shaking.

"What?" Ryo said, going even redder. "What?"

Otogi managed to pause laughing just long enough to get out,

"It's just – I – I thought the exact same thing when I saw you first, and I thought that you knew what I was thinking, and you were a little annoyed about it, but what you were actually thinking was – "

He couldn't stop laughing. After a moment, Ryo started laughing too. Their laughter echoed around the empty classroom for a good two minutes, and even as it petered down, they were still giggling.

"Bakura-kun, I think we're going to be good friends," Otogi said.

"Call me Ryo," Ryo said.

Otogi grinned.

"Okay, call me Ryuuji."

They both smiled.

A/N: I can actually see why people might ship this…not that I would, personally, but I can see the potential. Next is Minokenshipping (Priest Set x Priest Karim).
