Megan blinked her eyes open, everything seemed blurry. There was a face over her, a worried one that was quickly becoming relieved.

"Megan." a voice sounding just as relieved said. Megan blinked her eyes, fuzziness disappearing.

"Dad?" she asked. Her dad nodded, and gave her a gentle hug.

"Are you feeling better?" he asked. Megan wobbly pushed herself up.

"I, think so." she whispered. She looked around, she was in the old lab, and it looked like everything was a mess. Roll was cleaning, but quickly came over.

"You're alright!" she said, giving Megan a hug. Megan smiled, things becoming clearer. She wasn't sure how she got here, but she remembered what put her in enough of a state to get there.

"Vengeance Man, he wanted to beat me so badly he self-destructed. Why would he do that?" Megan asked, not intentionally saying it out loud. Megan's dad sat on the table beside her.

"I don't know. I don't think he ever considered having an actually useful job, he just thought that getting vengeance was everything." he whispered, pulling Megan into a hug. Megan hugged him tight.

"Did you fix me?" she asked. Megan's dad nodded.

"You don't know how I felt when I saw that explosion, I felt like it was all my fault." he explained. He looked up to Roll. "Luckily, Roll knocked some sense into me like she always does." he finished. Roll smiled.

"I knew you would feel like that, and, well this is your first time hanging back at the lab, worrying your head off because you can't actively help." she said, the end sounding not quite like a tease. Megan's dad looked down, surprising Megan how similar he acted to her.

"I scared you more times than I can count during the Wily Wars. I wish there was a way to take it back." Megan's dad said. Roll nodded.

"And I've told you twice as many times not to get reckless, but, you're you, and Megan's Megan. Both of you do what's right." she said, a little more softly this time. Megan grinned, watching her dad perk up, boy those two were close. She slowly slid off the table, feet hitting the floor with an echo. She looked around, fear suddenly gripping her heart.

"Where's Rush?" she asked, full of fear. Megan's dad wore something not quite a smile, but not a frown either.

Upstairs, Rush was a broken mess. He managed to lift his head though and bark. Megan gave him a hug.

"Rush!" she exclaimed. Rush's mangled tail wagged eagerly.

"I don't have all the parts I need to fix him properly right now. Some of his components are completely outdated too." Megan's dad explained, giving Rush a pat. Megan looked up, confused. Roll quickly noticed.

"That means Rush is grounded until this whole thing is over." she clarified. Megan looked at the robo-pooch.

"Vengeance Man meant business." she said quietly. His leg was reattached fortunately, but it didn't look operational yet. Megan looked at her own hand, it didn't look quite operational yet, just enough to move it. She quickly looked away, seeing the wires and circuitry made her squeamish. Megan's dad came beside her. He was carrying an open blue can. He smiled.

"Here, Rush, you deserve this after what you've been through." he said, extending the can to Rush. Rush's ears immediately perked up, and he started lapping up the substance in the can. Megan took a closer look, it seemed almost like oil, but different. Roll came forwards.

"Should I bring Megan back down?" she asked. Megan's dad nodded.

"Yeah, can you finish fixing up her hand?" he asked. Roll nodded.

"Sure." she said. Megan smiled, glad her dad had noticed her squeamishness. When Roll and Megan got back down to the lab, Megan had started noticing how beat up she really was. It was strange, inside, she felt perfectly fine, but the outside of her looked really smashed up. Dents, exposed circuitry, and other odd damage. Megan closed her eyes, not wanting to look at it much longer. She hadn't felt so scared, so intimidated since... Tears started rolling down her face, she had told herself not to think of it, but now she couldn't stop herself.

"Megan?" Roll suddenly asked. Megan looked up. She knew she had to say something or she would burst.

"Vengeance Man reminded me of that guy that came by when I was seven, that one that nobody will tell me who it was." she admitted. Roll's eyes went wide.

"Bass..." she whispered.

"Did you know him?"

"Yes."

"Who was he?"

"He was built by Dr. Wily to be better than your dad. I'm surprised he let himself get dismantled." Megan climbed up onto the table, letting Roll start working on her. She was so nervous.

"Can I be deactivated?" she asked. Roll shook her head.

"I wish I could say yes, but there's two things. You have a lot more internal damage than you think, and disabling you wouldn't be such a good idea right now. Two," she said, pausing. ",I hate saying this, but you have to get even more used to me or your dad working on you. You could get hurt again, and," Roll trailed off. Megan gave her a strained smile.

"I get it." she whispered. Roll smiled, then seemed to get an idea.

"Sometimes when I was getting repaired, I got nervous too, so Dr. Light- Grandpa would start talking with me. It kept my mind off what he was doing." she suggested. Megan bit her lip, she knew what she wanted to talk about.

"Is it okay, if I talk about what happened when Bass came?" she asked. Roll nodded, looking truly sympathetic. Megan took a deep breath, letting her memories run over

She placed herself in the mind of her seven-year-old self, letting the memories start talking.

"I heard the doorbell ring one day, and Dad was busy. He said that I could get it, but to make sure it was somebody I knew before I opened the door. So I ran over. I peaked through the window, and Bass looked right at me. His frown was so scary. He simply reached for the doorknob and yanked open the door. I ran back to Dad's lab. Bass followed me. It was so scary. I skidded through the door and hid behind Dad. Bass came through too." Megan kept talking, memories flooding her. She was hiding behind her dad, not daring to look up.

"What?" her dad asked.

"I'm full of surprises, and I have one last one. He's dead."

"You mean,"

"I buried him myself. He had gone completely mad. Every day I hoped he would get better, but he just got crazier. Thought you could use the facts."

"And scare my daughter?"

"So the look-alike is your kid? Hilarious."

"Get out of here."

"Not until I'm finished!"

"Why did you even-"

"The 'no robots' thing, the Doc was a genius, I'm still just as strong."

"Funny, I though I was strong in a bad situation."

"Haven't lost your wit, have you?"

"Just get out!" Megan dared to look up, her dad seemed so different, and Bass was so terrifying. Her dad suddenly brushed the top of her head. "Megan." he whispered. Megan looked up, her dad was holding a phone, with Roll's number on it. Megan got the message, and took the phone. She dashed under a table.

"Lightweights."

"She's seven!"

"So? What are you, ten?"

"Stop scaring her! What do you even want to say?"

"Just that I don't think the government's plan will work."

"If you're saying he had more robots-"

"Then you would already be defeated! You think I was just twiddling my thumbs? I even tried to build a robot myself, but I couldn't!" Megan hastily dialled Roll's number, she held the phone to her face, trying to let the rings drown out the loud conversation behind her. She still heard a bit of it.

"Still can't harm humans?"

"Stop it, and get out!" Megan was unsure what that had meant, but didn't hear anything further because Roll had picked up the phone.

"Hello?" she asked, her voice cheery. Megan started crying.

"Aunt Roll, Daddy gave me the phone and there's somebody here yelling and he's scary-" she whispered.

"I'll be right there, don't worry." Roll cut in, hanging up the phone. Megan peaked out once again, her dad and Bass were locked in a fierce stare. Bass suddenly tackled her dad!

"Daddy!" Megan exclaimed. At that moment, Bass looked at her with the wildest look she had ever seen. Megan's eyes widened. Her dad suddenly kicked Bass off of him, and they started a brief skirmish. Megan couldn't take her eyes off, her dad looked like he was losing!

"Get off of him!" Roll suddenly exclaimed. A broom hit Bass hard on the head. He whirled around, staring at Roll with shock and surprise.

"You! Again?" he exclaimed. Roll seemed scared as well, but held her ground. At that moment, Megan knew that she wanted to be as brave as Roll. Bass gritted his teeth, and spun around, appearing to leave. Megan crawled out from underneath the table, and ran to her dad.

"Daddy!" she exclaimed. Megan's dad picked her up easily.

"Megan!" he exclaimed. Bass turned around just for a moment.

"Megan, fitting." he mumbled before leaving. Megan brought herself to the present. Everything clicked into place.

"Dad named me after Mega Man, didn't he?" she asked. Roll shook her head.

"They both did, your mom and your dad. Your dad had saved your mom's life on his very last adventure, when she was little, and later when they met again, they got married. Your mom knew all about who your dad was, and she decided his name just might protect you the way it protected her. Your dad agreed." she explained. Megan smiled.

"I guess it worked."
