I've recently started watching Fairy Tail again, so I thought about reviving an old fanfic I wrote some years back. Yes, this is the opening chapter and it's short because it's just the prolog. I'll try to write more as ideas come to me and as I watch more episodes.
PS: This will also be available on my AO3. In all likelihood, the AO3 version will have different elements than FF dot net as honestly some of the rules are from the stone ages and I prefer the other site. You can find me under the pen name the_lady_writes_what. See you soon!
Shakti stood before the creature that had been thrashing around in her soul. It was an enormous dragon of black scales, but the colors shifted in the ethereal light of…whatever this place is. There was a glow coming from above, however there was no discernable way of knowing what it was or how it got there. Shakti was beneath the dragon's massive body. A single paw could wrap around and snap her in half with less effort it took to break a twig.
"We finally meet. Face to face," said the dragon.
"Y-Yes." All bravery was gone before the word left Shakti's mouth.
There was no magic here in this kind of spirit plane. Shakti could feel it. She had zero access to her elemental magic and no weapons. She tried to stay perfectly still in hopes that the dragon wouldn't attack a defenseless human. Or at least give her a mercifully painless, quick death.
"It seems we are at an impasse. I can't detach myself from your soul and you can't expel me. The longer we fight, the more likely I'll damage that vessel you call a body and we'll both die. Your little friend was right about one thing, I do not like using your body any more than that so-called scientist using my bones and soul in his experiments. Therefore, we much reach a…compromise."
"How do we do that?"
"I will train your body to be able to accommodate more of my power. It's fate that you're an elemental wizard, otherwise it would be more difficult to train you to handle my magic. We will be stuck together for so long as you live, which I hope to extend by making you more able to handle my raw magic." The dragon straightened its neck akin to a human straightening their back and squaring up their shoulders. "However, before we do any of that, let us get introductions out of the way. My name is Mana, Mother of the Elemental Dragons, Great-Grandmother of Igneel, and Scourge of the Seven Mountains. And who might 'you' be?"
Shakti took a deep breath through her nose and out and swallowed past the lump in her throat. "I'm Shakti Kumali. I don't have any children, but I am the daughter of Mamta Kumali and step-daughter of Alexander Singh. And um, I'm also the great-granddaughter of the first female wizard in my family."
Mana lowered her head to ground level so Shakti wouldn't have to continue straining her neck by looking up.
"Now that's out of the way, let us begin."
