"I'm a god," he had screamed. "This world is mine. I'm a god."
His opponent hadn't been impressed. But the harsh anger faded from his eyes, and something worse took its place—pity.
Or perhaps...
Perhaps it was only sadness.
"No," his opponent had said. "You're just lost."
The words turned over and over in his head, over and over and over. He wasn't even sure where he was anymore. Sometime between then and now he had given up. He had let go. Where was he now? He wasn't alive anymore. Nothing tied him to existence anymore. Nothing...nothing kept him alive anymore.
Did he even exist?
He could barely remember his own name. Or where he had come from. Or where he was going. He felt like he was crying, but he didn't have tears or even eyes to shed them.
A hand found his shoulder, and he was suddenly real.
Noa gasped for breath. Breath—that was breath in his lungs. Was he...alive? No...no, he...he didn't even know where he was. He couldn't comprehend it. He could, however, feel the tears staining his cheeks.
He found crimson eyes meeting his. A smile drew across the young man's lips.
"Hey," he said. "It looks like we're going the same direction this time."
A hand extended to him.
"...would you come find the way there with me?"
Noa stared at the hand for a moment, and then up at him. The young man with his spiky haired silhouette, his crimson eyes and regal figure. No more hatred, anger, or pity. Just a smile.
Noa swallowed. Then, without hesitation, he took the extended hand.
"Okay," he said. He found himself able to smile, a small thing that cracked at the edge of his lips. "Let's go."
With the hand in his, he knew he wouldn't get lost again.
