Lemonshipping (Katsuya Jonouchi x Mai Kujaku x Marik Ishtar x Yami Marik x Rafael x Rebecca Hopkins x Dark Magician Girl x Bandit Keith)
. . .
They stood out like a sore thumb in the middle of the busy Japanese train station. A bright lemon yellow thumb. Passersby gave the very, very strange group a wide berth, forming something of an oasis in the middle of the train station.
"Did I miss a memo or was this actually a coincidence?" said Katsuya Jonouchi. He was holding hands with Mai Kujaku, who frowned at the odd array of individuals that had somehow ended up at the same location.
"One hell of a coincidence," she said. She was more than a bit miffed that this sudden gathering had caused them to miss their train, now they were going to be late on her itinerary. She and Jonouchi had been planning on a brief shopping excursion into Tokyo.
"Well, I didn't call anyone here," said Rebecca Hopkins, frowning with that squinty eyed face of hers. She stood next to Marik Ishtar, whom she had become acquainted with recently through her father and Ishizu Ishtar, who were both involved with the Board of Antiquities in Egypt.
"I wasn't planning on calling anyone until later," Marik said. "Since we're busy right now..."
The pair had been on their way to an exhibit that Ishizu had asked them to help her oversee in the Tokyo City Museum. He had been planning on making arrangements to meet with Yugi and the others later, but hadn't intended on seeing anyone in Tokyo itself.
"I certainly wasn't expecting to see anyone I knew," muttered Raphael, who shoved his hands deeper in his pockets and tried not to show how uncomfortable he felt being the tallest person in the entire station. Even without this mass of bright yellow heads, he had always stood out in Japan with his height, and being stared at was not his idea of a good time. He was really starting to hate Valon for dragging him along on a trip to Japan for the simple reason that "he was bored" and was even more irritated with the young man for ditching him in favor of going out with some young man he had met at a club the night before.
"If I'd known you assholes were gonna be here I'd have thrown myself in front of the train," Bandit Keith grumbled, taking a deep swig from his hip flask. He was not nearly drunk enough for this bullshit. An unfortunate turn of events involving a few tournaments he had tried to enter and been disqualified from for intoxication, he had found himself without a passport and without money for a plane ticket home, and had been spending the last couple of weeks trying to get deadbeat relatives to help him wire money to get himself back home. The last thing he had wanted to see was Jonouchi's dumb mug, not to mention this collection of other clowns.
And then there was the final member of the strange blonde hair convention, the girl that looked suspiciously like the Dark Magician Girl in the way that her hair flipped up at the ends, the way that her cheeks were just the tiniest hint rosy and her bright green eyes smiled at the group as though this was the funniest thing she had ever seen. She hung with her arms around Marik's neck, staring at everyone with her cheeks puffed out like she was trying her absolute hardest not to laugh at the ridiculousness of it all.
"Who's your friend?" Mai asked Marik, as though she were trying to make actual conversation.
"Oh," said Marik, blushing slightly as though he had forgotten she was there. "This is Dawn...she's a friend of my sister's and came along for the ride..."
Dawn just blinked at everyone, cheeks still puffed and her shoulders shaking slightly. She was trying really, really, really hard not to burst out laughing because this was the funniest collection of awkward people in an awkward coincidence that she had ever seen.
"Well," Jonouchi said suddenly, as the train came in to a stop. "I guess we'd better get going, right, Mai?"
"Yeah," said Mai looking as though she'd love nothing better than to escape this weird ass group that was drawing so many stares. They almost glowed against the general populace and she was starting to get annoyed. "Talk to you guys later. Some of you."
She sent Bandit Keith a point glare before she slid her arm around Jonouchi's and they quickly stepped onto the train. Keith, for his part, just spat on the ground and slouched away, back to the bench where he had slept last night. Raphael frowned at him leaving. He nodded quietly to Rebecca, and got on the train himself, but in a different car.
"We've gotta get on the train too," said Rebecca to Marik.
"Right," said Marik. "Dawn, could you please loosen your grip?"
And then Dawn couldn't hold it in anymore and she burst out laughing, the laughter rolling out of her like a waterfall.
"I—cannot—believe—that—just—happened!"
She almost fell over with laughing, and since she hadn't heeded Marik's request for her to please let go she almost took him down with her.
"Gah! Dawn! Please!"
She didn't let go, still, but she loosened up a bit. She was still giggling as the rest of them got onto the train.
The giggles were all that hid her momentary panic. Because that particular group of people had just about stirred a very dark presence in the back of Marik's mind, a presence that had been fascinated by the group and interested in making itself known to them, and she would much rather that it not get out again.
She tightened her grip on Marik once more, to better seal her magic on him.
That was a close one, she thought. Better not let that happen again.
. . .
A/N: good lord. I cannot believe that exists and I cannot believe that I didn't just throw up my hands and give up.
I probably should have, considering the shitty ass quality of this installment. Whatever.
