In honor of the 3rd anniversary of the best tv couple ever to grace our screens in the history of television and frankly film. Little Deja Vu of 3x22 and 6x01.
The older woman scans through her schedule as the engaged pair admire the sample cakes in the display. She locks eyes with the brunette and can't help the words that leave her lips. "You're going to make a beautiful bride."
She can feel the heat rise to her cheeks at the random complement. Then his voice fills the room and she can feel her fake fiancé's/real life husband's eyes on her.
"I agree." And he does because she was definitely the most beautiful thing he's ever seen as she walked towards him on that fateful March evening exactly 3 years ago today. His heart feels likes about to beat out of his chest when she turns to look up at him with that shy smile on her face. The exact same smile she had when they spent their first few moments alone as husband and wife right before their reception.
"You're a lucky man."
"Believe me, I know" His eyes sparkle as they stay connected with his love's before turning back to the woman on the other side of the counter.
"So how long have you two been together?"
Kensi tries to gather her thoughts but her partner's making it very hard for her to do so as his hand gently runs up and down her back in a soothing motion. "Well-"
"Unofficially, 9 years, 1 week and 5 days. Officially, 7 years, 3 months and 2 days."
"Wow, that's some memory you got there."
"Can't forget anything where she's concerned."
The agent can feel the heat rise to her cheeks, leaning into his side, playing her part as the blushing bride both for their cover and reality. She knows he loves her with everything he is but sometimes he can absolutely stun her in the most amazing ways.
A challenging look crosses the bakery owner's face. "Okay then do you remember what she was wearing the first time you two met?"
"Black tank top, jeans, bag that goes across the shoulder, hair down…wavy."
"Oh, he's a keeper." She looks at Kensi flashing her a smile with a hint of nostalgia set in her feature.
"Don't I know it."
"How about you, young lady?"
Her brow furrows in confusion at the sudden question directed at her. "What about me?"
"Do you remember what he was wearing?"
She lets out a nervous laugh looking between the two. "You don't-there's no way I can possibly remember that." Turning from the older woman, Kensi turns to her partner. She can see he doesn't buy it as he tries to bite back a smile. "White tee shirt, red shorts…black socks."
"Y'all are too cute."
"Mostly him." She grins, meeting his eyes as she uses his line from a few years ago.
All of the sudden there's a resounding crash coming from the back room.
"Oh, dear. I better go check that out."
Once her back is turned the pair pull out their weapons. "Not so fast, Judith."
The pair take their cover positions as the raid in the back takes place. Judith now sitting at a booth under their watchful gaze.
As they wait, Deeks looks from his wife to the owner. "Can I ask you a question?"
"I suppose. If I can ask you one in return."
"Okay. Do you cook cheesecake or is it the same process as pudding?"
"You bake it, son."
"See, I told you." The blonde all but jumps in celebration as he flashes a grin at his partner.
"Now my turn."
"Shoot."
"Are you two really together?" She sees the looks they send one another and how they acted. She's in trouble that's for certain but it's surprisingly the last thing that's on her mind right now.
"We'll according to my husband we have been for a lot longer than I thought."
"Oh, please, Fern. You've been keeping count since the first time I flashed my winning smile at you."
"More like trying to figure out how you talk so much without your lips falling off."
"Ohhhh. Touché."
"Touché."
"Why? Why do you do this to me?"
"Because I love you and I know how much you hate it."
A he can do is smile, shaking his head in amazement and imagining their banter as they sit on their front porch 40 years from now. This is forever.
