Link Hateno hung up the phone, frustrated beyond belief. The whole morning had just been one frustration after another, and dealing with Telegram Central was the biggest frustration of all. Why did they have to make it so hard to speak to an actual human being?
"I'm going to lunch," he IMed to his team. "I can't get through to Telegram Central to confirm this money order. I'll try again after lunch." Yeah, his measly half-hour lunch break. Barely enough time to heat up his food, eat it, refill his water, and go to the bathroom.
He changed his work status to "lunch" and locked his computer without even waiting for anyone on his team to reply. Days like this, he had little patience for the inanity and apparent futility of trying to do his job. He didn't want to talk to anyone, and his irritability hung around him like an invisible barrier, repelling anyone who would try to speak to him.
There had to be more to life than this. He felt something within him crying out to be satisfied, to do something big to help the world. He wanted to be better at all the things he DID enjoy doing – writing prose and poetry, playing musical instruments, making art, building things – but no matter how he tried, he just couldn't excel at anything. But he felt like he COULD… he just didn't know what it would take to unlock the greatness within. Somewhere in a past life, maybe he had been something great. Maybe.
In the break room, he pulled out his Sheikah phone and dialed Zelda, longing to hear her loving, encouraging voice while his lunch reheated.
"Hey, sweet lover! What's up?" It made his heart swell every time, to hear her excitement at hearing from him. I guess I must have done at least ONE thing right, he thought to himself. He mentally said a little thank you to Hylia as he answered his beloved fiancée.
"I'm having a pretty shit day so far," he said. "But just hearing your voice makes me feel better."
Zelda giggled, still flattered every time he said that. "Talking to you kinda makes my day, too," she replied. "The customers have been a little demanding today. Thankfully, they've all stopped shopping temporarily to go favor the restaurants with their Karen-ity." Zelda worked in an upscale bridal boutique on the ritzy side of town. She pronounced "Karen-ity" like "serenity."
Link chuckled as he took his food out of the Sheikah speed oven, stirred it, and replaced it for another minute. "They better be good to you," he said with a mild warning in his voice. "Don't they know they're dealing with an absolute princess of a girl?"
"Aww, thanks, Link. You're pretty amazing, yourself, my gallant knight."
Link sighed, wishing that was true. "I'm glad YOU think so, Zelda. I really feel like just a cog in the great machine."
"Oh, sweetie, try not to feel that way. Every cog is important. If one cog breaks or falls out of the most fantastic of timepieces, the whole clock stops working. Just you doing your little part in your little corner of the 'machine' really does make a difference. If not to your members, then at least to your team. I know you're a good teammate. I know your coworkers appreciate you because of the gifts they give you. They think about you even when they're not at work.
"You even act like a team player when we're out in public, picking up things that people drop, giving people change for the parking meter, asking the waitress about her personal situation and giving her a good tip. I still think about the time you found that stray mother cat with her litter of flea-infested kittens and took them to the vet to be treated at your own expense." Of course she thought of it; they still had one of the kittens, the cutest one they just couldn't part with. Little Rhoam had grown huge, and was the unanimous king of their modest castle.
"You're just a good person in general, Link. You don't have to be a CEO to be the king of MY heart. I'm proud of the person you are. And most importantly," she intoned, the love loud and clear in her voice, "you make me happy. You fit me like a glove, you get me like no one else gets me, and I adore it when you sing and play guitar for me." She lowered her voice, and Link pictured her stepping into the back room for privacy, cupping her hands around her phone. "And the way you make love to me – I get turned on just standing here THINKING about it! You are an amazing lover."
Tears stung the corners of his eyes as he carried his food to the most private corner and sat down to eat. He felt the stirrings of desire at her words and her naughty tone of voice, and had to focus extra-hard on his food to keep from getting hard right there at work. "You're pretty amazing yourself," he said in a low voice, glancing around for anyone who might overhear.
"Keep your chin up, my precious love," Zelda encouraged. "You may or may not be destined for fame and greatness, but you still have me and the rest of your private fan club. You'll always be my hero."
"You always know just what to say to make me feel better," he smiled around a mouthful of food. He swallowed and said, "And that's why you're my princess. I think the afternoon doesn't look quite so daunting now. I love you, Zelda."
"I love you, too, Link. If you're still feeling down when we get home tonight, I'll cook you dinner and then we can light some candles and incense, put on some relaxing music, and give each other massages with that sexy warming massage oil."
"You gotta stop turning me on at work," Link said, mouth full again, his cock twitching in anticipation.
Zelda giggled wickedly. "I can pick up some fruit to play with, too… I know how you like to combine food and sex."
"They're practically one and the same," Link agreed, pushing away the mental image of a wildberry tucked neatly between her succulent nether lips. Break time was more than half over, and he still needed to use the bathroom before returning to work. If he got hard now, he wouldn't be able to pee. "Can we do that even if I'm NOT still feeling down?"
He could hear the naughty smile in her voice. "Of course, love. Have a good afternoon. You're carrying my heart with you."
"And you're carrying mine, Princess. You have a good afternoon, too. Don't let those snooty bitches crush your fighting spirit."
Zelda laughed. "Never! See you tonight." She made a kissing sound in his ear, then hung up.
Link felt much better as he finished his lunch. Zelda's love and encouragement always had that effect on him. By the time he got back to his desk, his own fighting spirit had returned. Let's slay these monsters of mundanity, he told himself, logging back in.
