Labyrinthshipping (Mei x Kyuu aka the Paradox Brothers)

. . .

((Can I just not do this one? Please? Pleeeeease? No? Oh, fine...))

. . .

Times were tougher. Not that the brothers weren't used to that. They used to be assassins, you know. But nobody seems to want to hire assassins anymore. Surprising, really, considering how much chaos there was in the world, how many people that people wanted dead. Still, people seemed wary about being connected back to the crime by hiring someone. They needn't have worried. The Maze Brothers worked with strict confidentiality. It didn't matter to anyone else though.

In the lull times, they turned to the interesting game known as Duel Monsters. It was a silly little thing. Addicting, though. When jobs were scarce, they were pleased to find that the game could be turned into a source of income. Other players in other tournaments were hopeless. None of them could match the brothers at the game, even when they weren't playing on their trademark labyrinth field, one that they had developed themselves to make the straight-forward game a bit more interesting.

Pegasus had heard about their labyrinth field. He was fascinated by it. He offered to hire them – as Player Killers, he said. Well. It wasn't assassination, but it was something a bit more interesting that normal. It paid incredibly well, too. The brothers were happy to accept the offer.

They were better than good at the game by then. Teamwork was as essential in a tag game of Duel Monsters as it had been during their assassination days. And it was frankly hilarious to both brothers how horrible the other players were at tag team. They all fell incredibly easily. Easy money. Far easier than their previous jobs, in fact.

Duelist Kingdom was supposed to be no different.

They hadn't counted on Yugi and Jonouchi.

So times were hard again. There was no Pegasus to pay for them to defeat specified opponents. There were no CEOs interested in hiring the two labyrinth players after their failure at Duelist Kingdom – regardless of the fact that Yugi Mutou had never been defeated anyway, and so their loss was totally justifiable in the end. And there were no mob lords looking to hire assassins that were well-known as high-ranking duelists.

So they would have to take whatever small jobs, small tournaments, that they could. It was fine. They would work through, as always.

Even if this next job was particularly annoying. Dueling against a pair of high school students who were trying to avoid expulsion from Duel Academia? They had hit a low point in their career.

Ah well. It would certainly be an easy enough job, at least.

A/N: References to YGO GX are loud and obnoxious. XD I hate the Meikyuu Brothers and I can't believe they're on the list as much as they are. They're obnoxious, pointless, and I usually don't even remember them when I'm making a list of my favorite to least favorite YGO
