Brett's POV
I fixed my sling as I walked through the airport toward baggage claim. I can't believe I am back in the states. I think the last time I was here was 3 years ago, and the only person I saw was Quinn. I am not going to lie, being here now having to be in the real world scares me more then war. The only thing I am happy about is that at least I am not going back to Lima. Being here in New York City is just about as much new I can take right now. My only goal is to work through my injury, build up the strength that I lost while in the ICU and get the hell back to my brothers. I love Quinn, I do but the military is the only thing I know.
Walking down the stairs I instantly spotted her bright blonde hair and a large glitter sign with my name on it. Of course Quinn would go all out like this, I wouldn't expect anything else. "Brett" she yelled, dropping the sign and running toward me. Her arms wrapped around my neck and I used my free arm to wrap around her waist. I bit my lip, spilling some blood into my mouth. Anything to keep Quinn from knowing the pain shooting through my torso caused by her hug. She pulled away and smiled up at me, "how are you? are you okay? did I hurt you?" she said really fast. "Quinn, Quinn I am okay" I said, stopping her word vomit. She just shook her head, "I can't believe you're really here" Quinn said, placing her hands on my cheeks. "well believe it" I said smiling.
Quinn and I went and grabbed my suitcase. She tried to carry it but I wouldn't let her. A gentleman never lets a woman carry a heavy bag. Making our way to the car I noticed that Quinn never stopped smiling. Every now and then I looked over just to catch her staring at me. When I would ask what she was looking at she would just reply, "I just can't believe you're here". I feel bad that it's been so long since I've seen her but I have my reasons.
"I really appreciate you letting me stay with you. I'll get a job as soon and I can and i'll be out of your hair" I said as we drove through the streets of New York. "Don't be silly, just take this time to get better. You can stay as long as you want" "I don't think your roommate would say that" I added laugh. "Oh please, Santana is fine with you being here. She's excited to meet you" Quinn said. "What's she like?" I asked intrigued about my new roommate. "Well she's my best friend, I've known her since we were like 7. I won't lie to you she is intense" Quinn said laughing. "Intense? I feel like that isn't a great word to describe someone" "Well once you really get to know her, I bet you will agree" she said.
Quinn pulled into an underground garage parking her car in an open spot. "Welcome home." she said smiling. We made our way up to the tenth floor of the complex. This place looked really nice. I knew Quinn was a lawyer but a place like this cost a lot to rent, I wonder what her roommate does. Once she opened the door I was taken back just how nice this place is. Walking in there was a nice sized U shaped kitchen on the left with white cabinets, grey granite countertops and stainless steal appliances. Past the kitchen the space just completely opened up. There was a grey and glass high top table on the left. Just beyond that was a fairly large living room for New York. Situated around a glass coffee table was 2 grey couch and a TV. I walked over to the large floor to ceiling window letting in so much natural light into the space. The view was breathtaking, I don't think I have seen something this beautiful in a while. I am definitely not in Afghanistan anymore.
"Quinn this place is amazing" I said, turning back to her. "Yeah it's not too bad, I'm sorry there isn't another bedroom but this couch has a great pullout" she explained. "No this is perfect. I'm not too picky, I have been living on a cot in the desert for basically 10 years." I said laughing a bit. I could tell that Quinn became a little uncomfortable at the joke. She wasn't very happy when I joined the military but what person is okay with sending their loved one away to war…. oh yeah my parents and step father.
Quinn just shook her head smiling again. "Now this is my room, I cleared out some space in my closet and dresser for your clothes." she said, opening a white door that came off the living room. Her room was absolutely spotless. With pale yellow walls and a large 4 post bed with a yellow quilt on top. The floor to ceiling windows continued in here also. "somethings don't change" I said looking around. "What is that supposed to mean?" she asked laughing. "Your bedroom in Lima was the same color and always this clean." I said laughing. Quinn had always been obsessed with keeping her room spotless which is definitely carried over into the rest of the apartment. "Just wait, once Santana is home the main apartment will look like a tornado ripped through it" she explained. "She can't be that bad," I said, chuckling. "Trust me, that girl is a mess. I am not even going to open her bedroom door because something will eat me" she said laughing, I couldn't help but laugh also. I really can't wait to put a face to this girl.
Quinn walked out of her room with me right behind her. Across her door on the other side of the apartment was a small hallway. Pointing to the door on the right she identified as Santana's room. Right across was the bathroom which was huge. It had 2 large vanities with a stand up shower and large marble soaker tube still showcasing the beautiful views of the city.
"Don't hate me but I need to go into the office for a few hours" She said pulling me from my thoughts. "Don't worry about it, I knew that you were going to need to work. Life doesn't stop just cause I am back." I said smiling. "are you going to be able to unpack? because if not I can always help you when I get home." she said looking at my left arm which was in a sling. "Don't worry about it Sis, I'll be perfectly fine. I got another working arm" I said waving my right arm. She laughed, "i'll grab pizza on my way home, i'll be back soon," Quinn said before walking out, leaving me alone in this amazing apartment. I peered at Santana's bedroom door. I wanted to open it and take a peek inside. Everyone knows that you can tell a lot about a person just by their bedroom. I was really intrigued to know who this girl is. Quinn's talked about her in our letters and the fact that she used the word intense and says she is like a tornado makes me picture this gross person. But she definitely can't be like that because Quinn would never live with someone like that.
I walked back to the living room grabbing my suitcase, bringing it into Quinn's room. I looked around a bit. There were pictures of Quinn with mom and dad, grandma and even a picture of us when we were kids. One picture caught my eye, I picked it up off the side table examining it. It was a picture of a group of people, one was Quinn and the others I didn't recognize. There was one girl that caught my eye. She was breathtaking. Tan smooth skin, big bright brown eyes and perfectly curled hair. Don't even get me started on her body, I don't think I have ever seen a girl with a better body. I am definitely going to ask Quinn about her.
I turned my attention back to my suitcase. I needed to unpack, then I wanted to take a shower. I haven't had a hot shower in god knows how long. With the sling and bandage around my abdomen it took me over an hour to get everything put away. I have been basically self sufficient since I was 17 when I left home. The military taught me everything I know, now just struggling to put damn clothes away makes me want to punch a wall.
Just as I was placing the last shirt on a hanger I heard the front door open. "Quinn, I'm home!" someone yelled, I guess it's time to finally meet the "intense" roommate.
I promise the chapters are going to get longer! Please comment! I want to hear what you think!
