Kiddyshipping (Rebecca Hopkins x Mokuba Kaiba)

. . .

"Uuuugh..."

"Geez, you are such a crybaby. Get it together."

"But it huuurts..."

Rebecca rolled her eyes. Mokuba sat next to her on the bench, cradling his jaw in both hands and looking longingly at a kid walking past with a bag of popcorn.

"Mokuba, you don't even like popcorn," Rebecca said.

"You never know what you want until you can't have it," Mokuba moaned.

"It's just braces. I had braces too once. You'll get over it; the pain will get better."

"No, it won't, it will hurt forever."

Rebecca sighed. It was a beautiful evening, the sun just barely headed for the horizon and painting the world in shades of orange and red. Down the path and into the park, she could see hanging lanterns letting off a soft, muted glow through the thin paper that surrounded them. She could hear the calling of vendors from the booths at the festival. She sighed. She had been looking forward to this trip for two weeks; she had never been to a Japanese festival before. She had even gotten herself a pretty yukata for the occasion, a pink silky one with green floral designs and thick green obi.

"Mokuba, I promiseit will feel better. But you have to stop thinking about it so much. Aren't you glad that you're going to have straight teeth?"

"My teeth were fine as they were," Mokuba said. "You didn't like my teeth before?"

"I wasn't really paying attention to your teeth in particular, actually," Rebecca said. "But it will be much better in the long run to not have an overbite, okay? I should know."

Mokuba just kind of fell dramatically backwards over the back of the bench and Rebecca rolled her eyes again.

She popped up from the bench.

"Come on," she said, tugging at his arm. "Let's go to the festival. You promised two weeks ago that we would go today. I want to see a real Japanese festival and you promised you would take me."

"I didn't know two weeks ago that I was going to be in massive amounts of pain," Mokuba said.

Rebecca put her hands on her hips.

"Mokubaaaa," she said. "I'll buy you ice cream if we go."

Mokuba looked up, actually looking a bit mischievous.

"Promise?" he said, brightly.

Rebecca felt her face flush.

"Have you been acting like this just to get me to say that?" she said.

"Actually, I was hoping to get you to say something else, but I guess that's good enough! Come on, let's go get ice cream!"

He hopped up from the bench, took her by the arm, and marched off towards the festival.

"Hey, wait a minute!" Rebecca said. "What do you mean you were hoping for me to say something else?"

Mokuba grinned over his shoulder.

"Wellll, I mean, my mouth is hurting a lot...there are two things that could make it feel better, and you guessed ice cream was one of them sooo..."

"What? What's the other thing? A popsicle...?"

And then it hit her and she flushed bright red.

"Mokuba Kaiba, you have absolutely no decency!" she said. "You were trying to get me to kiss you, weren't you?"

Mokuba was blushing even through his grin.

"Weeeelll, you could say it was kind of a hope..."

They stopped in the middle of the path, staring at each other for a moment. For the space of a heartbeat, Rebecca found herself staring at his lips. Then she pressed her lips together and marched past him.

"No way, you big crybaby, you're not going to get a kiss from me with techniques like that! You'll have to try harder next time!"

Mokuba laughed behind her, and she ducked her head to hide her smile.

"Okay," he said, hurrying up to catch her. "At least I know it's a possibility now. Come on, let's get ice cream!"

Then his fingers slid into hers and she blushed, following him into the festival.
