Santana's POV
This day has been a complete roller coaster ride. I start off having a break through with Brett and kissing him. Then work was a complete shit show, the detectives just do whatever they want instead of following the law. Sugar starts flirting with Brett which infuriated me, even though I have no right to be mad. Of course then my father calls and freaks out on me because I broke up with Sebastian. Why did I ever think dating my dad's surgical resident was a good idea. I should have known that we were not going to work out and Bash would run straight to my father to tell him. Then to top it all off, Quinn goes and tells Brett I speak spanish when i'm horny. I swear that girl does not keep anything to herself. Now I have to put a smile on my face and endoor this damn dinner party that I didn't even want to throw.
The only thing getting me through this dinner party really is Brett. He just gives me these butterflies in my stomach that no one has ever given me. You see even when I am dating someone, I don't completely fall for them. Everyone knows that Santana Lopez does not fall. Now I feel like I am falling for a guy I am not dating let alone know very well. I am also intrigued to meet this friend of Brett's that he invited. I really hope it is a boy because after the day I have had, I don't think I can handle another girl flirting with Brett all night.
I decided on a cream sweater with an open back that looks great against my tan skin, black ripped jeans with my hair slightly wavy. I looked hot, there was no doubt about that. I made my way out into the living room. The table looked great, I didn't even notice that it was set so nicely when I walked in. I was too preoccupied with my father yelling at me on the phone. "Didn't he set it up well?" Quinn said, placing the dinner rolls on the table. "Yeah really nice" I said taking in fall table decorations. Quinn walked back into the kitchen, it smelled so good in here. I felt a hand come in contact with my bare back. "You look great," Brett said, kissing my cheek. "Is this what we are doing now?" I asked, pointing to my cheek. Brett just raised his shoulder. "I don't know but I kinda like it" he said, drinking his beer. I just shook my head laughing. I have no idea what is going on but I like it too.
The doorbell rang and Quinn yelled at me to answer it. "Satan!" Kurt yelled hugging me. "Kurt move over let me see Satan" Mercades said pushing him. "Satan" Brett asked laughing. "OMG you must be Quinn's hot brother, Kurt Hummel" he said putting his hand out. "Brett Pierce" he said shaking it. "So are you gay?" Kurt asked. I couldn't help but laugh at the sheer panic that came across Brett's face. "Kurt you can't ask people that!" Mercedes said. "Don't mind him, we can all tell you aren't gay, Kurt just wishes you are" she said laughing. "I am Mercedes" she said, Brett smiled. Just as I was going to close the door Tina and Mike walked up. I introduced them to Brett and we all walked into the living room to mingle.
"I am getting wine, anyone want anything?" I asked as Quinn came out to see everyone. Mercedes, Tina and Kurt raised their hand. I made my way to the kitchen and opened the Pinot Grigio that was in the fridge. I opened the cabinet and saw the wine glasses on the top shelf. Why the hell does Quinn insist on keeping the extra glasses on the top shelf. I reached up stretching on my tippy toes and still couldn't reach. "Let me help" I heard Brett say from behind me. Before I could move I felt Brett press against my back. I felt my breath hitch as my ass came in contact with his front. I couldn't but love the feeling of being pressed up against the counter by Brett. His hand reached above me easily grabbing a glass. "How many do you need?" he whispered into my ear. I bit my lip, "Um three" I whispered back. He grabbed three more before retreating back away from me. I instantly missed the warmth I felt being pressed up against him. I poured the wine while Brett grabbed some beers. I brought all the drinks out with Brett and noticed that Finn, Rachel and Puck were also here. There was no sign of Brett's friends.
"SATAN" Puck yelled, pulling me into a hug. "What is with everyone calling you that?" I heard Brett ask. "Wow I am surprised you are even asking that" Puck said laughing. "It just means that Santana hasn't gone crazy on him yet" Finn added. "Trust me dude it will happen, I am Noah but you can call me Puck and this is Finn" Puck said. Brett smiled and shook their hand introducing himself. This is going so well, of course everyone is bringing up my nickname from high school. The guys started talking about the New York Giants when Rachel came out of nowhere. "Satan" she said smiling, "Hobbit" I replied. Rachel laughed and pulled me into a hug. "Santana, you look great," she said, admiring my outfit. "I know" I replied, sipping my wine. "You are supposed to say thank you and tell me I look nice" she said, placing her hands on her hips. "I cannot lie to you, Rach" I said smiling. Rachel rolled her eyes and turned her attention to Brett. "It is a pleasure to meet you Brett, Rachel Barry star of Funny Girl" she said smiling. "I'm sorry, I have no idea what Funny Girl is" Brett said. Rachel's face dropped and I lost it. In fact everyone who heard him started dying laughing. "We are going to get along great," Puck said, patting him on his back.
"Brett, your friends are here" I heard Quinn yell. I looked toward the door and saw a beautiful red headed woman along with a big guy with a brown beard. Of fucking course his friend is a girl and she is actually attractive. I know he said he doesn't sleep with army girls but he would be stupid not to hook up with her away on tour. I watched as she hugged Quinn and then the guy also hugged her. The redhead woman whispered in Brett's ear and I saw him roll his eyes. I wonder what she said to him? "Okay everyone, grab your seat. Dinner is almost ready!" Quinn said, clapping her hands before disappearing into the kitchen with Rachel. I grabbed the bottle of wine and refilled my glass after taking a seat. Brett walked over and sat next to me.
Then of course the women had to sit across from me while the other guy sat next to her. We were all seated except for Quinn and Rachel since they were plating the food. "You're Santana right? Brett's other roommate?" The woman asked me. "Yes, I am and you are?" I asked, a little annoyed. "I am Carrie" she said smiling. "Carrie is an old friend of mine," Brett said smiling. I felt like he was taunting me. "So you guys served together?" I asked, clarifying. Both Brett, Carrie and the other guy started laughing. What the hell are they laughing at? "Hell no, Brett served with my husband Aaron" she said pointing to the guy next to her. I nodded slowly, "Husband" I mumbled. Brett's hand reached over and squeezed my knee making me look up at him. "Yes husband" Brett said laughing. I quickly grabbed my glass and finished it.
Quinn and Rachel came back and placed everything on the table and we all started digging in. "Wait did you say tour?" Puck asked. "Yeah Brett and I were in Afghanistan" Aaron said. "Served over 6 years together" Brett said cheersing his beer. "I didn't know you were in the military," Puck explained. "Yes you did, I told you" Quinn exclaimed. "No you told me that he got hurt, that's it" he replied. "I am in the marines," Brett said. "That's awesome dude" Finn said clearly impressed. "Did Quinn tell you Puck is in the Air Force?" Rachel added. "Oh really, what's your rank?" Aaron asked. "Airman Noah Puckerman, what about you guys?" Puck said. "Staff Sergeant Aaron Walker" He said. "Master Sergeant Brett Pierce" Brett said nonchalantly. Puck almost spit out his beer. "Quinn, how the hell do you manage to forget to tell me your brother is a Master Sergeant!" he said. "What is a Master Sergeant?" I asked. "It's just my rank," Brett explained. "Of course you would just sugar coat it, he is ranked pretty high and basically is in charge of a bunch of soldiers" Carrie explained. "Yeah Brett was in charge of a bunch of missions when we were over there" Aaron said.
"So how did you get hurt?" Kurt asked, making the table go silent. I whipped my head in his directions, "You don't ask a soldier how he got hurt in war" I kinda yelled. I was the only person other than maybe Carrie and Aaron that really knew how he was hurt. "Nothing too bad, he just really fucked up his shoulder" Quinn exclaimed. I watched as Aaron turned toward Brett, utter confusion came across his face. I could tell that Brett was giving him a look, "Yeah just hurt my shoulder bad" he said. "So Aaron are you still in the military?" Mike asked. Aaron shook his head, "No I was discharged 2 years ago" Aaron said. "What happened?" Tina said chiming in. "I was injured too badly, actually this guy saved my life" Aaron said smiling. I looked over at Brett and could tell that he was very uncomfortable.
"You have to tell us how now," Quinn said smiling as everyone agreed. "We were on a mission and Brett was in charge" Aaron started saying. I noticed that Brett's knee started bouncing, he looked antsy but no one else noticed. Then it hit me. Brett's nightmare that woke us up, he was screaming the name Aaron and Drew. This had to be the Aaron from that. The story he is telling the table must be what Brett was dreaming about. I reached over pulling his hand over to my lap. He looked over at me, before interlocking our fingers. "So we were on this night mission and the hummer I was in hit an IED. The front end was completely destroyed. I happened to be in the back getting something from the trunk. One of our buddies ended up dying because he was driving" Aaron explained. I guess that guy was Drew, I placed my fork down and sandwiched his hand between my hands. I can tell that listening to this story is not easy for Brett, so I gave his hand a light squeeze. That way he knew that I was there and aware of his discomfort.
"I was laying in the middle of the road basically bleeding out, until Brett came running up to me. He was able to pinch the artery in my leg. I ended up losing it but I got to go home to my wife so I owe Brett everything" Aaron said. He lifted his leg up and pulled his pant leg higher, exposing the prosthetic. Brett pulled his hand away from me taking a large sip from his beer. "I am so sorry dude" Puck said. "That must have been so hard," Mercedes added. "I was terrified when a soldier came to my door and told me. I will forever owe Brett everything" Carrie said smiling, snuggling into her husband's shoulder. "Brett, you are really a hero," Tina added. "I am so sorry about the loss of your friend" Rachel said. Of course this girl had to just bring the mood down. "He was a great dude, right Brett" Aaron said. Brett just nodded and quickly changed the subject. "Aaron got me a job at the gym," he said. Both Quinn and I gave him a look. "I told you that you didn't need to work," Quinn said. "I know but I wanted to chip in, I am not going to mooch off you and Santana." he exclaimed.
"You are not mooching off of us, you're recovering there is a difference" I exclaimed. "Yeah and we make plenty of money between the two of us, plus you are still being paid by the military." Quinn said. I nodded in agreement. "I think it will be good for me to get out of the house for a little while," Brett exclaimed. "What gym are you going to be working at?" Finn asked. "I own Aarons on the west side." Aaron explained. "That's where I recognize you! That's the military gym I go to, remember I was telling you about it" Puck said pointing to Mike. "Oh yeah! I wanted to try out a boxing lesson" he exclaimed. "Once Brett is up to it he is going to be training people, the best guy in the military to help you out" Aaron said smiling. "I am so going to have you train me," Puck said, raising a glass. Brett cheered him, "Absolutely, but you will be training like a marine not an airforce guy" he said which made everyone laugh. "He is going to kick your ass," Finn said laughing.
After we finished dinner, I told Quinn to enjoy everyone's company and I would clean up. She did basically cook dinner by herself so it's the least I could do. "Here's the last of them," Brett said, placing the last stack of dishes on the counter. He grabbed another beer from the fridge. "Are Puck and Quinn dating?" he asked. "Maybe you should ask Quinn that" I said, cleaning the plate in the sink. Brett came up next to me leaning against the counter. "But I am asking you," He smirked. "Listen Puck is a good guy, Quinn is in very good hands" I exclaimed. "So they are dating," he said, taking a large sip of his beer. "I don't think they are actually dating but I know they are kinda seeing each other" I explained. "So I should go give him the big brother talk" Brett said smiling. "Absolutely not, Quinn will kill you and I think Puck would shit his pants" I said laughing.
"Does Aaron know how you were actually hurt?" I asked, turning to him. He nodded, "He was the first person I called when I was in the hospital in Germany." Brett explained. "I'm surprised you didn't call your family," I said. "If you knew my family then you would understand why I didn't call.", "But I do know Quinn's mom and dad, they were always very nice" I said. "And did they ever say anything about me?" Brett asked. I thought for a minute, "No…..", "Exactly" Brett said, taking another large sip. "I know what it feels like to have family problems," I said. He put his beer down on the counter and looked over at me. "Earlier when I was talking in spanish on my phone, it was because my dad found out I broke up with Sebastian," I explained.
"Shouldn't he be happy about that? I don't know Sebastian but I could tell he was an arrogant asshole" Brett said. "Bash is definitely that but he is also my father's resident" I said. "Resident?" "Yup, my dad is an attending surgeon and Sebastian is his right hand man, that's how I met him" I said. Brett nodded now understanding everything, "So basically your dad picked your boyfriend." "He always wanted me to marry a rich guy that could provide for his family, that way I would be a stay at home wife and mother" I said, gulping down some more wine. "But look at you now, you're a kick ass lawyer. Why would he want you to throw that away?" Brett asked. "Because my parents are really old school, they don't think a woman should work or be in any position of power" I explained. "That's wrong, you should never feel like you are settling just because of your parents" Reaching his hands toward my waist. Brett hooked onto my belt loops and pulled me closer to him. "You deserve everything Santana, this is your life not theirs" he said. I reached up and wrapped his arms around his neck. "I know I do but my dad scares me sometimes, I wouldn't be shocked if he disowned me one day" I explained. "Even if he does, you're stuck with me forever" Brett said smiling. I smiled back, "I'm okay with that." I could feel Brett's hand rubbing against my bare back. "Thank you for earlier during dinner," he said. "Like I said you're not going through this alone anymore" I said laying my head down on his chest gently, pulling him into a hug.
"Oh I'm sorry" I heard someone say behind us. I quickly pulled away and turned toward the voice. Carrie was standing there smiling. "I just want to come and say bye, Aaron and I are going to head out." she said. Brett walked over pulling her into a hug, "Thank you for coming and for the job, I'll see you soon" he said. "I'm going to say goodbye to Aaron," Brett said before walking away. "He likes you alot" Carrie said once we were alone. "You think?" I asked. "Absolutely, I've known Brett a long time. He has never put himself out there. Also he always said that he was going to die in the military because he had no one to live for and no one to love. I have never seen him look at someone like he looks at you" Carrie explained, making me smile.
I took a deep breath, "I'm worried about him," I admitted. "Does it have to do with the fact he lied to the table about his injury?" she asked. "You know?" I asked. Carrie nodded, "and I could tell by your face that you do too." "He won't tell anyone, not even his sister. Then the other night he had a nightmare, woke everyone up screaming and I think it was about the night that Aaron told the table about" I said. "That's not shocking, Aaron had nightmares for months even now he still has them. Drew, Brett and Aaron were best friends and Brett has blamed himself for so long" She explained. "It isn't his fault though" I said. "We all know that but Brett took a lot of pride for his brothers and he couldn't go back for Drew's body" Carrie said. "It also didn't help that Drew's wife screamed at Aaron and Brett during the funeral for not looking out for her husband." "That's awful," I said, imagining just how much that broke Brett. "I am not sure how much you know but Brett's been through a lot, more than normal people go through in their lifetime." Carrie said. "He tells me things every once in a while. I told him that he wasn't alone so he's been slowly opening up." I explained. Carrie pulled me into an unexpected hug, "I can tell you care about him, dealing with PTSD is so hard as a partner but don't give up on him. He is an amazing guy" Carrie whispered in my ear. I felt a few tears escape my eyes, why was I crying? Carrie pulled away, "here's my number, I've gone through this and I still am. Call me if you need anything." she said, handing me her business card. "Thank you Carrie" I said smiling before she left.
After everyone left, Quinn and I sat in the living room finishing a bottle of wine. Once Brett went to the bathroom she started whispering to me, "Do you think it's a good idea that he is working there?" she asked. I shrugged my shoulders, "I think he needs something to do during the day" I explained. Before Quinn could reply Brett walked in, "She's right Quinn" he said before taking a seat next to me. "I think you should just enjoy being home" Quinn explained. "Listen I know you are looking out for me but sitting in this apartment all day while you two work will literally drive me insane. Why not do something that I enjoy and people will pay me for. It's a win win sis" he said smiling. Quinn looked at me, basically begging me to take her side. "We just don't want you to hurt yourself more," I said. Quinn nodded in approval to my statement before turning to Brett. "I will not push myself more than I can handle, plus I have a doctor's appointment this week so I might be out of this sling" he said smiling. "You're a soldier, of course you are going to push yourself" Quinn said, aggravated. I had a feeling I should probably leave, maybe this was a family argument. "Quinn, I have taken care of myself for years, I can make my own decisions. So drop it" he said, sternly. I could tell by Quinn's face that she did not expect that to come out of his mouth. "Fine" she said before getting up and walking into her room, slamming her door.
"Damn it" Brett muttered letting his head fall against the back of the couch. "She is just trying to look out for you" I said. "Don't you think I know that" he said, snapping his eyes in my direction. "Don't do this again" I said, never breaking eye contact. "Do what Santana?" he asked. I shifted so I was on my knees to the side of him. I grabbed his hand, "Don't push me away, I just want to have an honest conversation with you" I whispered. I watched as his eyes softened and I could tell he regretted his actions.
"You told me about your dad without me asking" he said. I was confused, "okay what does that have to do with this?" I asked. "You want to have an honest conversation and I said that I would talk about my family if you did. Ask me anything" He said taking a deep breath and looking deep in my eyes. "Just because I shared something with you doesn't mean you have to," I explained. "I want too Santana, I trust you" he said, turning to face me. I thought for a second, "Why did you leave Lima?" I asked. Ever since I found out he lived in Lima, part of me wondered if we would have gotten along. If we had met in highschool, would anything have happened between us? "My mom and Russel got married. Russel hated me because I ruined his idea of a perfect family because my mom had me out of wedlock. He ignored me every chance he could. Then when Quinn was born, she was their entire world and I was nothing. At first I resented her but she loved me like no one else did. When I was 10, I got suspended from school for beating up this kid that told me that my real dad left because he didn't love me. Well because of that Russel convinced my mom to sign her rights over to my ungrateful asshole of a father who never even wanted me. Thus my life of hell officially began, I left Lima and never went back." Brett explained. I could tell that there was more to the story but I wasn't going to push him, he looked defeated.
I decided to just take a chance. I leaned forward gently grabbing his face and pulling his lips to mine. His good arm wrapped around my waist immediately pulling me against his chest and slinged arm. Moving my lips slowly savoring every moment. I ran my tongue along his lips, begging for an entrance. His lips parted quickly and I pushed my tongue in. I felt him wrestle with me. I got higher on my knees so that I was slightly above him. I was able to deepen the kiss. I felt his tongue sweep into my mouth, exploring every nook and cranny. His hand slipped under my sweater running along the bottom of my back. I felt his hand dip below the waistline of my jeans, coming in contact with my lace thong. I bit slightly on his bottom lip and heard a quiet groan escape from his lips. I pulled away slowly, as much as I wanted to continue this; Quinn was in the next room. "Thank you for telling me that" I whispered, he smiled "Thank you for being you Santana" he said which made me smile in return.
Please let me know what you guys think!
