Chapter 16: A Traitor of Jealousy
One night in Kiru City, Maxxor and Intress were having a night out. They were having a campfire outside the city. "So nice to have some time to ourselves without having to worry about Chaor or any of his lackeys." Maxxor said. "I know. We really needed this, my love." Intress said. Maxxor put his arm around his wife and brought her closer. Intress nuzzled him.
Nearby, someone was watching them from afar. He pulled a Diamond of Vlaric from his robe and aimed it directly at Maxxor. But Maxxor sensed the attack coming as the stranger fired an Earth Pulse from the Diamond. "Look out!" Maxxor said, dodging to the side and Intress dodged to the other side as the Earth Pulse hit the spot where they were sitting. Maxxor looked to where the attack came from, but the stranger was gone. Intress rushed to her husband's side. "What happened? Who shot at us?" She asked. "I don't know. But I do know this. Whoever it was, they'll be back." Maxxor said. Intress looked at her husband with worry, like she knew who the attacker was.
(Intro)
In Chaotic, Robbie was battling in the Imthor Drome. Both players were down to their last Creatures. Robbie was battling as Malvadine. The other guy was battling as Ketacc. They were battling in the Forest of Life. Malvadine was at a disadvantage. It was Aichlyys in the Forest, so his invisibility was useless.
Malvadine got blasted into a tree. Ketacc rode up in a Viledriver. "Too bad, so sad, Robbie. Your whole Chaotic career is about to go up in flames!" Ketacc said, preparing to finish Malvadine off. But Malvadine had a plan. "Pit Plunge!" He shouted, firing a sludge attack at the ground under the Viledriver. "What was that supposed to accomplish?" Ketacc asked. Suddenly, the Viledriver started to sink. Apparently, the attack created a sinker's pit. Ketacc tried to drive the Viledriver out of the pit, but no luck. He was sinking too fast. Malvadine got up and prepared his final attack. "Spirit Gust!" He blasted several spirit heads from his hands. The heads surrounded Ketacc, until one of them battered him, coding him.
Sidney, Minnie and Gisele watched the match from the Port Court. "Alright Robbie!" Sidney cheered. "I never would've expected a Pit Plunge attack." Gisele said. "Robbie always has a surprise up his sleeve." Minnie said. "Yeah. I think he got that from me." Sidney said. The girls shared a laugh. Just then, Sidney got a call on her scanner. She answered, revealing Tom. "Dad! What's up?" She asked. "Trouble. I'm at Kiru City. Somebody attacked Maxxor and Intress last night. I ported here so I could try to help. Think you can port here to help too?" Tom explained. "Okay. I'll port there soon, Dad." Sidney said, ending the call. "What's happening?" Gisele asked. "My dad called from Kiru City. Someone attacked Maxxor and Intress last night." Sidney explained. Minnie and Gisele were shocked. "By who?" Minnie asked. "I don't know. But that's what I'm going to find out." Sidney said.
Sidney ported to Kiru City and met up with Tom before they walking up to the castle. "Who do you think was behind the attack, Dad?" Sidney asked. "I don't know, Sid. Whoever it was, he's probably as dangerous as Chaor." Tom said. As they got to the door, Drabe stopped them. "Hold it! This is an Alliance meeting! Humans are not welcome!" He said. "Drabe!" Intress called. The 3 saw her walk up to them. "These humans are my friends. And Maxxor's. They were asked to come." She said. "Apologies Intress." Drabe said, walking away. "You'll have to forgive Drabe. He's very strict." Intress said.
Intress brought Tom and Sidney to the council chamber. Maxxor had just told the leaders about what happened. "You 2 were lucky." Odu-Bathax said. "I don't think it was luck." Maxxor said. "What do you mean, Maxxor?" Takinom asked. "Whoever the attacker was, I think they were after me." Maxxor said. The leaders, Intress, Tom and Sidney were shocked to hear this. "But who'd even think to try and attack you?" Tom asked. "The boy's right. Your skills are superior to Chaor's." Mudeenu said. "I don't know who it was. But I know for sure that they'll try again." Maxxor said. "Then we'll set up guard shifts around you for the time being." Takinom decided. "That's very generous, Takinom, but I can handle myself." Maxxor said. "Council dismissed." He then walked out of the council chamber. Intress watched her husband with worry as he left.
Later, Intress, Tom and Sidney wondered the halls. "So, what now? How're we gonna find Maxxor's attacker?" Sidney asked. "Maybe we can check around the spot where you guys were attacked on your date night." Tom suggested. "That's actually a good idea, Tom." Intress said. Nearby, Drabe watched the 3 with suspicion, like there was something he didn't want them to know.
The 3 investigated the spot where Maxxor and Intress were attacked on their date night. They were joined by Aivenna, Rothar and Bierk. "What exactly are we looking for, boss?" Rothar asked. "Anything that might give us a clue on whoever's behind the attack." Intress said. As everyone continued looking, Intress noticed Sidney had a look on her face. "Something wrong, Sidney?" She asked. "I'm still thinking about Drabe. He seemed pretty annoyed that me and my dad showed up." Sidney said. "It's okay. I told you, Drabe's strict when it comes to trusting people." Intress said. "How do you know him?" Sidney asked. Intress sighed. "He's one of my oldest friends. We were almost inseparable when we were kids. We trained Aivenna together when we found her as a child." She explained. "I never told anyone about this, but back then, Drabe had feelings for me." Sidney was shocked to hear this. "But I never returned his feelings because my heart already belonged to Maxxor." Sidney put a comforting hand on her shoulder.
"Intress! I found something!" Aivenna called. Everyone quickly ran to her side and saw what she found. "Hoofprints." Tom said. "They're not like mine." Rothar said, comparing his hoof size to that of the prints. "Well, now we know whoever the attacker was, they walk on hoofs." Bierk said. "They're 2-legged. So, that rules out Staluk and Wrenges." Tom pointed out. "What now?" Sidney asked. "We'll go back to Kiru City and interview every 2-legged hoof walker in the city. Ask them where they were that night." Intress said. Everyone nodded and hustled back to Kiru City. Intress stayed a little longer and looked at the hoofprints again. 'I just hope I'm wrong about who it is.' She thought before hurrying to catch up with the others.
Meanwhile, Maxxor continued to walk through the hallways of his castle. A couple of his soldiers greeted him as they passed by. Just then, as the soldiers were out of sight, Maxxor felt a familiar presence behind him. It was him, the hooded figure who attacked him and Intress. He turned to face the attacker. "I figured you'd try again. Who are you? Did Chaor send you?" He asked. The figure just stayed silent. "Not gonna talk huh? Good. I was never much for talk anyway." Maxxor said, preparing to fight. The figure prepared himself too. Maxxor started by firing a Lavalanche from his chest. The figure dodged to the side and fired a Pebblestorm from his hands. Maxxor leapt up and slung a Flame Orb, sending the figure into the wall. Maxxor then walked up to grab him, but the figure retaliated, hitting him with Freeze Flash. Maxxor hit the floor hard, groaning in pain. The figure loomed over Maxxor, preparing to finish him off. Suddenly, the figure was blasted back. The figure looked up and saw the 2 soldiers from earlier. "Halt right there!" One of them said. The figure just leapt out the window. The soldiers ran to the window, but the figure was gone.
In the council chamber, Intress, Tom and Sidney reported on what they discovered. "So, whoever this attacker is, they walk on 2 hoofed feet." Mudeenu said, getting the facts straight. "But there are so many Creatures with hoofs in this city. How will we know which one is the attacker?" Odu-Bathax asked. "I already have Aivenna, Bierk and Rothar interviewing them as we speak. If it's any of them, we'll know it." Intress said. Just then, the doors opened, revealing the soldiers carrying Maxxor. Everyone gasped at the sight.
As Maxxor recovered, he told the council what happened. "Are you alright?" Tom asked. "I'm still breathing, aren't I?" Maxxor joked. Everyone chuckled. "Maxxor, I still think you should have at least a couple of guards watching over you." Takinom said. Maxxor thought about this for a while. "Please Maxxor." Intress begged. "Very well. Send the stealthiest Creatures we have." Maxxor requested. "Of course." Takinom said, leaving the chamber. "We'll help too. If the attacker does try again, we could scan him and find out who it is." Tom offered. "That's a good idea, Dad." Sidney said. "Very well. As soon as my wound heals up, we'll get started.
Later, after Maxxor's injury was healed up, he started back into the castle halls. This time, he had spies watching over him, waiting for his attacker. Gespedan watched over his leader from a safe distance, using his speed to keep up. Spyder watched from the ceilings. Tom and Sidney hid themselves close. 'Let's hope this works.' Maxxor thought. As Maxxor made his way into the city, Gespedan followed close. But suddenly, someone grabbed him and knocked him out. Maxxor looked around as he walked through the city streets. Spyder observed from a building. Suddenly, someone appeared behind him. He turned around, only to get knocked out by a Delerium attack.
Back in the council chamber, Intress was trying to contact Gespedan and Spyder. Nothing. "I've lost contact with Gespedan and Spyder." She said. "The attacker must've gotten them." Smildon said. Intress was now getting really worried.
Tom and Sidney hid up on a different rooftop, when Maxxor came into view. Just then, Maxxor stopped. "Why'd he stop?" Sidney asked. "The attacker must be close." Tom whispered. Maxxor closed his eyes and took a deep breath as the attacker slowly appeared behind him. Tom and Sidney got their scanners ready and locked onto the attacker. They scanned the attacker, receiving a big shock. "No! It can't be!" Sidney whispered. "But it is. We gotta get back to the castle and tell the council." Tom whispered. Sidney nodded. They both ported back to the castle.
As soon as Maxxor sensed that Tom and Sidney were gone, he turned around, preparing to attack. Except there was nobody there. Maxxor kept his guard up, waiting for any upcoming attack. Suddenly, he started sensing movements all around him. He kept his cool, preparing a Flame Orb in his hand. Sensing someone behind him, he jolted around and threw the Flame Orb. The attacker leapt towards him, dodging the orb and blew Toxic Gust in his face. Maxxor coughed up the cloud, starting to feel woozy. Then he fell to the ground, slowly losing consciousness. The attacker looked over him. "Time's up, Maxxor. For good this time." The attacker said, drawing his hood back to reveal… "Drabe." Maxxor said weakly before falling unconscious.
