On February 8, the world of music lost one of its greatest legends. Mary Wilson of The Supremes passed away at age 76.
Sofia2017 planning asked about this classic Supremes song, so enjoy your request! I thought it would be fun if, during the karaoke party at the end of The Secret Love Song, Sofia, Ruby, and Jade did one of their favorite songs. It gets even more fun for them when they invite their moms to join the fun. Amber is even reminded of the fun she, her friends, and Queen Melinda had when they were dancing to music when Amber had sleepovers. Lucinda using a Langlock spell is from chapter 9 of The Secret Love Song, and Langlock is from Harry Potter. The Supremes' music is not mine, and on a more serious note, rest in peace, Mary Wilson.
Everyone was having a lot of fun at the karaoke party. Sofia had even invited Ruby and Jade to take part in the entertainment, and they were excited to hear that James was going to be singing around the castle again. They had learned about how he had exiled himself from singing in public after losing his voice, but they knew that it had been an accident, and he had just been sad about it. But to them, that didn't matter anymore. James was singing again, and he was having fun, and that was all that mattered.
Following Hugo and Axel's duet, Ruby found a song she had always loved. "Sofia! Jade!" she called, "We have to do this one right now!"
"Which one is it?" Sofia asked, chuckling at her enthusiasm.
"We did this one all the time when we had sleepovers in the village," Ruby smiled. "Even our moms would sing this with us!"
"Whatever it is, it must be a good one," James said as he came over with a cup of punch.
"Well, we always liked the occasional sing-along with our mother," Amber agreed.
"Let's sing it and see if they join us!" Jade suggested.
When they were given the CD, Ezekiel and Deidre rolled their eyes at the girls' enthusiasm, but thanks to Lucinda's Langlock spell, they couldn't voice their opinion. Of course, that didn't stop them from thinking it, but Ruby, Jade, and Sofia were too excited to notice.
When the music began, Sofia started, All day long, I hear my telephone ring
Friends calling giving their advice
From the boy I love, I should break away
'Cause heartaches, he'll bring one day
Ruby joined in, I lost him once through friends' advice
But it's not gonna happen twice
'Cause all advice ever gotten me
Was really long and sleepless nights
(Sofia and Jade sang backup, Oooooh!)
The three girls sang together, But now, he's back in my arms again
Right by my side
I got him back in my arms again
So satisfied
(Sofia took a quick solo, Oooooh!)
"I remember when they did this during the Buttercups' talent show," Miranda smiled. "That was one of the cutest song-and-dance numbers I'd ever seen!"
"Ruby and I would play song by this group whenever we did chores around the house," Mrs. Hanshaw agreed.
"Helen, what do you say, for old times' sake, we join them?" Jade's mother, Emma, suggested.
"How's that phrase go again, the more the merrier?" Miranda chuckled as she led the way to the stage.
"Hi, Mom!" Ruby called.
"Mom! Take a verse!" Sofia called.
"That's the plan!" Miranda grinned as she took the next verse, It's easy for friends to say let him go
But I'm the one who needs him so
It's his love that makes me strong
Without him, I can't go on
Mrs. Hanshaw smiled as she spun Ruby and sang, This time, I'll live my life at ease
Being happy loving whom I please
And each time we make romance,
I'll be thankful for a second chance
(Miranda and Emma sang backup, Oooooh!)
The three of them sang together, 'Cause he's back in my arms again
Right by my side
I got him back in my arms again
So satisfied
(Sofia, Ruby, and Jade joined in, Oooooh!)
"I remember when Mother sang songs like this with us," Amber smiled. "Of course, I used my friends in the song."
"Hildegard and Cleo still liked it when they caught you that one time," James agreed.
Amber smiled at the memory. Her smile widened when she saw the ghost of Queen Melinda appear next to her. "What do you say, Amber? You want to sing this with me?"
"I'd love to!" Amber smiled as she used the new lyrics, How can Hildy tell me what to do
When she lost her love so true?
And Cleo, she don't know
'Cause the boy she loves is a Romeo
Hildegard and Cleo applauded. They liked this song as much as Amber, and they liked it when they were included in the song. They also remembered how James would use their middle names in his stories and use them as characters.
Melinda smiled as she sang with her, I listened once to my friends' advice
But it's not gonna happen twice
'Cause all advice ever gotten me
Was really long and sleepless nights
(Amber hugged her as she joined in, Oooooh!)
Miranda, Melinda, Emma, and Helen started, I got him back in my arms again
Right by my side
Sofia, Amber, Jade, and Ruby echoed, I got him back in my arms again
So satisfied
(Oooooh!)
Everyone sang together, I'm satisfied
So satisfied, I'm satisfied
I'm satisfied, so satisfied
Over the applause, Roland smiled. "That was wonderful, ladies! And yes, Amber, I've seen you and Melinda having fun with that song when you and your friends had your sleepovers."
"Music does tend to make everything better," Amber smiled. "And Mother, thank you so much for singing that with me!"
"You're welcome, Amber," Melinda smiled, "Now, I'll go see if some of our castle ghost friends would like to have a sing-along of their own!"
"Or let them come here," Miranda smiled. "After all, the more the merrier!"
"That's a wonderful idea!" Melinda smiled. "I'll go invite them right now, and see you very soon!"
