*Next chapter, I hope you guys like it!*
Brett packed his belongings up in his duffel bag. They decided to move camps to a location closer to the target site. This was a tough decision to make since moving would put everyone at risk. You see where they are now is a neutral zone which means it is as safe as you can be when you are in a war. Now they are moving to a place that is not as neutral. But it is essential to be closer to the target location in case something goes wrong. They need to have backup close by.
Brett was in charge of this operation. His General, who is "helping" them come up with a plan is technically in charge but we all know that once he signs off, the General is going home to his mansion on the water. When they were throwing out ideas, the General had the audacity to say that Brett should stay back at camp and call the shots over the radio. Like hell would he do that. Brett completely dismissed that idea, if he was sending his men out there then he was going to be there with him. Brett always said, he would never make his men do something that he himself wouldn't do.
Once he was packed up completely Brett decided to round up his rookies. Brett walked into the room and all the young men who are on their first deployment stood up to salute him. Brett saluted back, "At ease soldiers," he said. The men relaxed their positions. "I want you all to sit down," Brett said, sitting down himself. The men took their seats making a circle in front of Brett.
"I can tell by your faces that you are anxious about the upcoming mission. I want to tell you that it is okay and expected. I myself was terrified on my first mission. Hell, I am still scared now, if you are not scared then something is wrong with you" Brett said, earning a laugh from the guys. "We are going to get through this together, I will be right by your side the entire way. I want to stress to you that this is not basic training anymore. What I mean by that is if you have questions then you need to ask because it is now life or death. I am not saying this to scare you, I am saying this because your family members have trusted me with getting you home. That is what I am going to do. Do you all understand me?" Brett asked. They all nodded "yes sir" they said in unison.
"This is going to be one of the hardest missions for you for multiple reasons. The biggest reason is that the men we are chasing are the most wanted men on the military list" Brett explained. "Do you guys understand who these men are, who the Ahmadi brothers are?" He asked. He looked around at the rookies. One of the men raised his hands. "Private Mahoney?" Brett said. "They are the leaders of the largest rebel group in the middle east. I heard that they are the reason that hummers exploded a few weeks ago. They even have abducted multiple soldiers and I am pretty sure only one has made it out alive" The rookie explained. "Have you guys all heard that?" Brett asked. All the Privates shook their heads, yes.
"Do you know who the soldier was that made it out of their hands?" Brett asked. They all shook their heads, no. Brett stood up and lifted up his shift, allowing his scars to be on display. "That soldier was me," He said. The private's mouths dropped. Brett pulled his shirt back down and smoothed it out before sitting down. "I was abducted by these men and tortured for days. I don't want to be here just as much as you guys don't, but here we are. I need you, men, to be on your game to ensure that these men are either captured or killed on this mission, do you understand me?" he asked. "Yes Sir" they all yelled.
"Good because we are moving out, grab your packs and meet the rest of the crew outback. You are dismissed" Brett said, allowing the men to leave the meeting. Whenever Brett had rookies in his group, he always made sure to pull them aside and talk to them. No one ever did that for him so he always wanted to make sure they understood what was going on. The first deployment and mission are always the hardest and these young men need to know that this is real life and they could die. It was always the hardest conversation but Brett always thought it was necessary.
Brett sent one more text to Santana. "I love you so much" was all it said, it was the only thing he wanted to make sure Santana knew. Once he was sure that the message was sent. Brett turned off the cellular network on his phone. He needed to make sure that there was absolutely no way anyone could trace them. Brett grabbed his own pack and made his way outside. A group of 15 men was standing around him. He was in charge of these men. 5 were rookies or Privates while the other 10 were a mix of ranks but none of them were as high as Brett.
"Let's do this. Everyone get into their vehicle, we have a pretty long drive ahead of us" Brett explained. He himself got into the 3rd vehicle. As the leader, he never goes in the first or the last hummer since those are the most likely to be attacked in an ambush. That way the team's leader is more likely to survive the ambush.
The drive gave Brett a lot of time to think about what they were about to do. Brett had been working with the intelligence office for the last few weeks since he was deployed. This entire time they have only been zeroing in on a location. Once they decided on a location was when Brett moved to develop a plan. The rest of the group had been working on endurance and gun training since there is no doubt in Brett's mind that people are going to be shooting.
The last time Brett put his plan into fruition it got him abducted. Another mission that he helped come up with got Drew killed. Now here he was back in the middle east putting another plan into action, a plan that could get anyone including himself killed, and that scared the shit out of Brett. All he wanted to do was crawl into Brett with his girlfriend, is that too much to ask? Brett shook his head, he needed to stop thinking about something that was not going to happen anytime soon. "So when are you going to go over the plan with everyone?" Sergeant Debrow asked. This snapped Brett out of all the thoughts that were flooding his mind.
"I'll go over it all at the campsite when we get there," Brett explained. "When are we putting this plan into action?" Debrow asked. "Once we get there, we will have a day to get settled while I triple check with the intelligence team that the location is correct. Then I will bring everyone together to go over the plan in detail. After we make sure everyone understands then I think I am going to allow one more day to pass. That way if anyone has questions they can freely ask them. Then we will leave just after nightfall" Brett explained to the Sergeant. Debrow nodded his head. "Why don't you look over these files for me. I have read them over a million times. I think a new set of eyes will really help me" Brett said, handing over the top-secret plans that only a few people have even seen. "Let me know what you think and if you think we should change anything," he added. Sergeant Debrow took the file, "Are you sure, I am only a Sergeant?" he asked. "I was a sergeant once too, plus I've been on a few missions with you and I trust your opinion. Look it over very carefully" Brett said. The sergeant smiled and nodded, "yes sir," he said quickly opening the file and getting to work.
Brett leaned back and shut his eyes. Sleep had been nonexistent for him since he had gotten back. It hadn't been so much the nightmares, mostly the fact that Brett just can't get comfortable. He blames Santana since they had been sleeping together leading up to the day he left. Brett got so used to holding her in his arms or the feeling of her head on his chest. Now Brett feels like he just can't sleep without that feeling. He has come to realize that he needs to sleep whenever he has the chance and right now he has that chance.
With his eyes shut, Brett somehow managed to fall asleep.
"Brett baby, wake up," Santana said, whispering in his ear. Brett stirred a bit before opening his eyes. Santana was next to him with the sheet covering her body. He looked at her confused. "Why do you look so confused?" San asked. Brett decided to just ignore it, this was obviously a dream, at least it is better than his normal nightmares.
Brett pulled her so she was on top of him. "I am confused because you are covering up your amazing body," he said. Santana rolled her eyes and shifted herself. She sat up on top of him with her legs on either side, making sure to move his blanket. They were connected skin to skin but the sheet still covered her. Santana slowly moved her fingertips down his chest. Tracing over every scar and every outline of his defined abs. She moved until she met the V of his abdomen. Tracing it back and forth as she spoke "You really think you can go again?" she asked, biting her lip. "I can always go with you," Brett said quickly.
Santana scooted down a bit so his semi erected shaft could come into view. "Looks like Brett Jr, here already knew what was going to happen," San pointed out, grabbing ahold of it. Brett hissed as she started pumping his shaft. Brett managed to sneak his hands under the sheet so he could touch her. Brett rubbed her thighs, he still could never understand how soft her skin is, no matter what. Santana grinded herself down on his lap. Brett could feel the heat radiating from her core, the moisture covering his pelvis. "It feels like someone else also has ideas of what is going to happen," Brett said, squeezing her thighs.
Santana leaned forward, pressing her chest against his. "I am going to ride you until you fill me with your cum. How does that sound?" she asked, biting his ear lobe. "That sounds like heaven to me" Brett mumbled. He moved his hands to her ass, squeezing it. Santana kissed him, running her tongue against his lips. When Brett parted them, she immediately found his tongue with hers. Brett kneaded her ass as they made out. Santana pushed her hands on his chest to help her sit up. Brett tried to pull on the sheet but Santana held onto it tightly. "Take off the sheet, I want to see you," he said, trying to tug on it again. "Say please baby" Santana purred.
"Please Tana, let me see you. All of you" Brett begged. Santana happily obliged and pulled off the sheet. Her glorious caramel skin came into view. Brett never got tired of seeing her like this. The sweat slowly rolled down her body from the last time they went at it. Santana's hands went back to his dick. She pumped it a few times before lifting herself up. Brett supported the underside of her thighs. Santana lined up with her entrance and slowly lowered herself around him. "Mmmmm" She moaned, feeling him fill her up. "Damn it Tana" Brett mumbled.
Santana placed her hands on his chest to give her some leverage as she moved. Brett kept his hands under her to help her movements. Santana moved fast and Brett stayed right there with her. "God B" Santana groaned as she kept moving. "You feel so good baby, keep going," Brett said. Santana nodded and kept moving, keeping the pace. "Lean down Tana" He whispered.
Santana leaned forward and moaned loudly. This changed the angle that Brett was hitting and god did it feel good. Once she was close enough, Brett wrapped his lips around her nipple and brought his pelvis up to meet her movements. "Fuck" Santana mumbled. So much stimulation, so quickly. Her breasts kept bouncing in his face but his mouth kept at least one of them at bay. He licked, sucked, and bit her nipple over and over. Brett could feel her core fluttering around him. He let go of her nipple with a pop.
Santana sat up again. She was so close and wanted to get there so bad. "Brett" she yelled as bounced on his dick. "I am right there too babe, cum for me Santana" Brett commanded. Santana tightened around him. Brett let go of everything once he felt that. He spurted every last drop deep within her. Santana loved feeling all warm inside from him. This really tossed her over the edge, she came and she came hard. Tossing her head back, yelling out. It poured out of her, leaking around Brett's dick and onto him. Santana collapsed forward, Brett's chest catching her fall. Brett rubbed her back, both trying to catch their breath. It became something he always did after they had sex. Brett always rubbed her back.
After a few minutes, Santana pulled her head from his shoulder and propped it up with her hands. "I missed you," she whispered. Brett smiled, "I could tell" he laughed. "No, I mean it. I never thought your tour was going to end" Santana admitted. "I told you that I would be home as soon as possible, I meant what I said," Brett said. "You also said that you were going to come home to me," San added. "And here I am," He whispered. "Here you are," she whispered back.
"I made a decision on my way home," Brett admitted. "What did you decide?" she asked. Santana leaned down and kissed his chest before looking back at him, she just couldn't help it. "I decided that I am going to retire from the military," Brett said. Santana couldn't help but smile really big. "Are you sure? You love the military?" she asked. Brett tucked her hair behind her ear. He caressed her cheek and slowly moved his thumb across her lips. "You're right I do love the military. I will always be a soldier, there is no changing that. But I gave enough time and a large portion of my life to it. Now it is time for me to live. I want to be with you," he explained. Santana rested her head in his hand. "I want to be with you too, forever," she said. "Forever" Brett repeated.
Brett's eyes opened up quickly. He was being shaken by someone. His eyes scanned around the tight space he was in. Instead of Santana's gorgeous face staring back it was replaced with one of his soldiers, Sergeant Debrow. Brett was confused because the Sergeant was smirking. "What the hell are you looking at?" Brett asked, stretching as he sat up straighter. "You just had a sex dream didn't you?" Debrow asked. "Of course not, what the hell made you think I did?" Brett asked. "I don't know, the moaning and grunting. By the way, who is Santana?" Debrow asked with a cheeky grin. "Shut the hell up," Brett laughed. "Fine, fine, I won't ask but I am looking forward to meeting her when I come to visit you in New York," Sergeant Debrow said. Brett just rolled his eyes and moved on. He was already embarrassed enough.
"Did you have enough time to look over the file?" Brett asked. Debrow nodded and handed it back to Brett. "I had plenty of time, we have been driving for 2 hours" he explained. Brett looked at his watch and was shocked. He had been asleep for so long, and it was all because of Santana. "Are we almost at our campsite?" Brett asked. Debrow nodded, "yeah, we should be there in about 10 minutes. I wanted to wake you up before we got there in case you needed to get rid of your blue balls. Don't want the rest of the platoon to see that" Sergeant Debrow said, laughing. Brett just rolled his eyes and looked out the window while his friend laughed.
Once they came up to the campsite, everyone began to unpack. This site was a lot smaller and a lot less impressive than their last one. There were only 4 beige-colored tents. One for meetings and eating. One for sleeping. One for bathrooms and showers and the last one was a small kitchenette with only a small burner to heat up the prepackaged meals they brought with them. Brett told the group to only unpack some of their belongings. They do not want to have to pack up too much stuff if they need to leave quickly.
Brett sat on his little cot that was in the corner of the tent. It was the most secluded Brett could get from everyone without having his own tent. Brett looked into his helmet. He was so glad that he had these pictures at a time like this. Every tour he went on, Brett was jealous of all the photos that the soldiers were tape up in their bunks. He would never admit it but Brett wished he was like that. But now he was. Brett placed his hand into the helmet, letting his fingers ghost over the photos. Stopping at the picture of him and Santana. "I need to get home for her" he whispered to himself. Brett will never get used to the fact that he is dating the most beautiful girl in the world. He needed to make it home, he needed to see Santana again.
"Master Sergeant Pierce, General Kennedy is on the secured line in the other tent. He is requesting to speak to you" Another soldier said. Brett nodded, he took one final look at Santana's smiling face before placing his helmet back with the rest of his belongings. "Have Sergeant Debrow and Staff Sergeant Brown meet me in the tent" Brett requested. "They are already in there, sir" He replied. Brett nodded as he walked toward the exit. "I want the rest of the platoon to get settled and cleaned up. Let them know that once this meeting is over, we are all going to meet" Brett commanded. The soldier nodded and saluted. "Dismissed," Brett said, letting the soldier go and relay his message.
Brett walked across the short sandy courtyard to the other tent. He walked in and the two men stood, saluting him. "At ease soldiers," Brett said, taking a seat in between them. There was an old laptop in front of them with another group of soldiers who specialize in intelligence with General Kennedy right in the center. Brett was not excited to see the man. He has hated him since the first time he ever met him way back when he was just a private. This man also never liked Brett, General Kennedy never thought that Brett should have moved up the ranks and it was extremely clear. If Brett had to guess, he would bet that General Kennedy would be happy if Brett never made it home.
"Pierce, I see that you guys have settled in," General Kennedy said. "Yes sir, everyone made it here safe. The rest of the platoon is unpacking and getting freshened up" he said. General Kennedy scoffed, "Freshened up, are you guys on a mission or vacation," he said laughing. "Well once this plan is placed into action they may not have the chance. So excuse me if I am looking out for the wellbeing of my men" Brett spat back. Everyone straightened up a bit, only Brett Pierce would talk like that to a General, ever. General Kennedy sent daggers through the screen and they were pointed directly at Brett.
"So where are we with the location?" Brett asked. One of the soldiers next to General Kennedy spoke up, "We have collected evidence that Jabbar is going to meet Aazar at the location that we sent you too" He said. "When is he planning on meeting him?" Brett asked. "Based on the chatter, we believe he is coming tomorrow and staying for a few days," the man explained. "So that means we need to move tomorrow night?" Brett asked, needing clarification. "Yeah, I believe it is the only opportunity that we will have to try and capture both of them at the same time," he explained. Brett nodded slowly, this isn't exactly what he wanted to hear. Brett wanted more time to make sure his men are ready but that is not going to happen.
"So now that my men have confirmed this, what is your plan?" General Kennedy asked. "We are splitting into 3 groups. Each one of us will be in charge of our own group. Debrow will be going in by hummer from the west. I will be going in by hummer coming in from the east. Brown will stay back at the base listening to everything. That way if we need anything he and his team will be on standby." Brett explained. "Now what are you planning on doing once you get into his base?" the General asked.
"As I was in the middle of explaining, once we are in position then we will fan out. Coming into their camp spread out but still close enough to help each other. our best shooters will be on the outskirts with their snipers, combing the perimeter." Brett explained. General Kennedy did not look impressed at all. The rest of the intelligence team however nodded their heads, seeming like they were agreeing with his plan. "Do you have a suggestion General?" Staff Sergeant Brown.
"I actually do," he said defensively. "I think that plan sounds good but I think you need to recon the place before putting the plan into action." The general said. "Okay, and what do you suggest?" Brett asked. "Pierce, I want you to take the chopper tonight and survey the compound. That way you know exactly what you are walking into" General Kennedy said. "That might be a good idea," Sergeant Debrow said skeptically. "Surveying the land is a good idea but if they hear the helicopter then they might realize we are close. They could either run and we have to start all over or they might attack" Brett explained. "I didn't even think of that, good thought," Staff Sergeant Brown said. The intelligence officers all nodded and looked around as if they were trying to figure out a new plan.
"That will not happen," General Kennedy said. "And how do you know that it will not happen?" Brett asked. "They are not smart enough" he replied as if it was obvious. "Are you kidding me? Of course, they are smart enough, these men abducted me, remember. I know them the best out of anyone and I know they are smart enough" Brett said. "Are we still bringing up your abduction, that was a long time ago, it is now time to forget it" General Kennedy said as if it was inconveniencing him. Sergeant Debrow reached over and tapped on the table. This got Brett's attention. Sergeant Debrow motioned for him to take a breath and not lash out on the General. Brett did just that because if Debrow wasn't there then Brett definitely would have started screaming.
"As I said, they are smart enough. If they hear the engine of a helicopter then I know they are going to react" Brett explained. "Well I am the General and I am in charge of this mission. You are just my eyes on the ground. I want you in the chopper tonight" General Kennedy demanded. Brett knew that this was not going to be a good idea. "Fine but no one is going with me," Brett said. "Wait, absolutely not. We are all in this together, remember?" Staff Sergeant Brown said, dismissing the idea. "Yeah, I'll go with you if this is what the General wants," Sergeant Debrow said. Brett shook his head. "Absolutely not," Brett said.
"I don't care who the hell goes, but I want this done. Do you understand me?" General Kennedy said. Sergeant Debrow and Staff Sergeant Brown both nodded their heads, "Yes sir" they both said "Pierce?" General Kennedy asked. "Yes sir" he mumbled. "Glad we are all on the same page. The helicopter will be at your base later and I expect it to be in the air just after nightfall. Then we will meet tomorrow morning and discuss the surveillance. Once all of this is done then we will be able to decide on the best plan moving forward. That way tomorrow night everything will be perfect for you guys to execute the plan" General Kennedy said.
Everyone nodded. "I will talk to you tomorrow Pierce, Goodluck" General Kennedy said before turning off the connection. Brett slammed the computer screen down. "I can't fucking stand him," Brett said. He stood up abruptly. "How can he just sit back and dictate what we do. I understand he is the general but he is sitting on his ass making these dangerous calls that could ruin the plan" Brett vented. Brett yelled before taking a deep breath and turning back to his second and third in command. "I am sorry but I have known that man for a very long time. He is the type of superior that sits back and makes commands, ones that he wouldn't do himself and I just do not think that is okay" Brett explained.
"So are we going to do the helicopter surveillance that the General wants to do?" Sergeant Debrow asked. "Yes we are going to do it and hope for the best," Brett said. "I will go with you," Staff Sergeant Brown said. Brett shook his head, "No, you are my second you need to be here" he said. " why don't I just go and take direction from you guys over the radio?" Sergeant Debrow asked. "No, I am in charge of this platoon. I will be doing the recon mission. I need to be able to see everything that way when we put this mission into action, I can give the guys the best advice." Brett explained.
"That is fine and I understand why you want to do it but why don't you take a rookie with you?" Staff Sergeant Brown suggested. "This recon mission could go very bad, very quickly. I will not put anyone in danger if I do not have to. I will do this with the helicopter pilot and that is that." Brett said. The two sergeants could hear the seriousness in Brett's voice. They both nodded, neither were going to go against him.
Brett got word from the outside base that the chopper was on their way. It will be landed at their base just at nightfall. So once it gets here, Brett has just 20 minutes to hop on and start the ride over.
"Food will be served at 19:00, I want everyone seated because I need to talk to the entire platoon at 19:30. Do you understand?" Brett asked. Staff Sergeant Brown nodded, "I will have everyone there, Will you be joining for dinner?" He asked. "No, I want the sleeping tent for myself. I just need to think you know" Brett said. Brown nodded, "I'll see you soon," he said before leaving with Sergeant Debrow.
Once Brett's men made their way to the meal tent, Brett sat on his bed. He had so much on his mind. All he wanted to do right now was to talk to his girlfriend. Santana's voice was always able to calm him down and he needed it more than ever right now. Brett grabbed his phone, he made sure that the cellular connection wasn't on so there was no way anymore could track them before he used it. Brett scrolled through his photos. He scrolled past the ones from the day she surprised him at his office. Brett grinned looking at them. As much as he loved them, he was looking for more subtle ones.
Brett stopped at a video and quickly hit play. Santana was standing in the kitchen with Quinn cooking on the side. Music was playing loudly in the background. Santana was dancing around with a full glass of wine in her hand. Quinn started yelling at her, "Help me cut these, or we are never going to eat" she yelled. Santana giggled and just kept dancing, "I told you to order out" she sang to the key of the song. Brett watched this video with a beaming smile. Quinn threw the knife down. "We are having cereal," she said as she started dancing with Santana. "Yesss Q," Santana said, spinning his sister around. Brett loved watching both his girlfriend and sister laugh and dance.
Brett scrolled to the next video. Santana and Mercedes were singing in the middle of the living room. It was one of those drunk moments where Brett wasn't even supposed to be home but he had to stop and watch the show. Whenever those two got together it was always entertaining. Brett thought they were the best singers that he has ever heard but don't tell Quinn that. He scrolled again and saw a picture of Santana with her glasses on standing at the foot of her head. She was wearing one of his shirts and flipping him off. Brett remembered that moment. He was sitting in her bed and told her that she needed to wear her own clothes and she replied by flipping the bird at him. "What's yours is mine," she said right after he captured the moment.
He scrolled past and saw a picture of Puck, Santana, and Quinn. Puck was laughing hysterically with his arm wrapped tightly around her as if he was hugging San. Quinn was behind both of them with her arms around them. She has a big smile plastered on her face. Santana however was looking at Brett with a pissed-off look that screamed 'get him off me or I will hurt him'. This made Brett smile, if he had to capture his favorite people in their natural habitat it would be this picture. Even though Santana looked angry, Brett knew she wasn't. She always put on this tough girl act but everyone knew just how soft she was on the inside. That is one of the things he loved about her. Brett loved when Santana showed her soft side. That is why when he switched to the next photo, it made his eyes water. It was the three of them again but this time Santana was smiling. Quinn had tickled her enough to make the real Santana come out. It was really nice to see her smile on display.
The next picture was later on that night but this time it was just Santana. They were laying in her bed. Brett knew that it was just after they had sex since Santana's hair was a little crazy but she still looked beautiful. The sheet was pulled up and wrapped around her chest. The sweat was glistening on her forehead as she smiled up at him. Brett loved her so much and right now all he wanted was to be with her. Talk to her and hold her close.
He wiped the tears that started cascading down his face. He switched the photo. This time it was her again but she was closer. The tears still fell down his cheeks. The next photo was her again but it was a bit blurry and her hand was grabbing the phone. The next photo was of the two of them. Brett remembered that Santana grabbed the phone and made him take a selfie with her. They were smiling, the sheet still tight around her upper half while Brett's chest was on display. The last photo was of them kissing. Brett was caressing her cheek while her hand was on his bare chest. Brett turned off his phone and took a deep breath. He needed to get it together before he was to talk to his platoon. Brett quickly wiped his face and changed his clothes into his combat uniform. He grabbed his helmet and took one last look at the photos inside before walking out of the tent.
When Brett walked into the community tent, everyone went silent. He walked up to the other end and stood at the front. "I know you guys have probably heard what is going to happen tonight," He said. "It is very important for you all to listen to me very carefully because there are two things that are going to happen tonight," Brett said. "The first and hopeful only mission that is going to happen will involve me. I am going to take the helicopter out and survey the land. Make sure that we know exactly what we are walking into in a few days." Brett explained. "If the helicopter spooks them then you all need to be ready to execute the plan tonight" Brett announced.
The chatter started among the soldiers when Brett announced it. "Attention! Your Master Sergeant has not finished speaking. Quiet down or you guys are running laps when he leaves" Staff Sergeant Brown declared. The soldiers stopped talking "Yes sir" they yelled out. Brown nodded at Brett to keep talking. "Hopefully we will not need to go tonight but you guys must be ready to go. Finish eating and pack up, I want everyone with their gear back here in 20 minutes. Staff Sergeant Brown is in charge and will update you. Everyone is dismissed" Brett said. The soldiers nodded. Some turned back to eating while others who were already finished went to throw out their trash and left to start getting ready.
Brett walked over to Staff Sergeant Brown and Seargent Debrow. "You have everything ready?" Debrow asked. Brett nodded, "I have everything packed up and ready. Just make sure you two are ready too," he said. "Don't worry I will have everything in tip-top shape. We will have everyone on standby waiting for your signal" Staff Sergeant Brown said. Brett nodded and stole a piece of bread from his plate. "I'll see you guys later then," Brett said. "See ya man," Debrow said, shaking his hand. "Safe travels," Brown replied. Brett nodded and walked out, it was now or never.
Brett packed his M17 automatic pistol and his two-way radio. "Just checking, 1,2,3" Brett said pressing the speak button on the radio. "Loud and clear sir. All go on your end?" Staff Sergeant Brown said. "Loud and clear" Brett replied. "Going in together," Sergeant Debrow said through the radio. Brett smiled and raised the radio to his mouth, "Coming out together" he said, choking up a bit but none of his men would ever call him out on it. He took one last look at his phone screen. A picture of him and Santana. "I'll see you soon" he whispered before turning it off. He grabbed his jacket and helmet. "Let's do this" he whispered before walking out of the tent.
Staff Sergeant Brown and Sergeant Debrow waved as the helicopter took off from the base. Brett stared at his camp and men until they became just a speck in the distance. He turned back to the front of the chopper, darkness surrounded them. "How long till we are near their hideout?" Brett asked. "About 15 minutes sir," The pilot answered. Brett slowly nodded his head. The only sound Brett could hear at the moment was the engine, he prayed. You see Brett has never been a religious man. He always said that if a god was real then why would he have put Brett through all the shit he has been through. But in moments like that, there was nothing else to cling to. So Brett did the only thing he could think of and that was to pray and hope that someone was listening. "Please don't let them hear us," he said inside his head, over and over.
"See those lights in the distance?" the pilot said. Brett looked forward "yes" he replied. "That is the camp, be ready. Should be over in about 5 minutes" he said. Brett pulled out his radio, "about 5 minutes out, lights in the distance. Looks to be about four buildings but I'll confirm when closer" Brett said into the radio. "Yes sir" Brown replied back quickly.
The lights got closer more quickly than Brett thought. Usually in war, five minutes felt so long but in a case where Brett feared the end, the ride was so quick. "What's your name?" Brett asked. He could tell that the question threw the pilot off. "Captain Madison," he answered. "What's your first name?" Brett asked again. "Phillip," the pilot said. "Nice to meet you, Phillip, my name is Brett," he said. Phillip smiled, "Nice to meet you to sir" he replied. "I feel like we should be on the first name basis, you know what I mean" Brett explained. Phillip laughed, "I get it but we will be back soon," he said.
Before Brett could answer, the pilot spoke. "Coming up to the base. Take your position" Phillip said. Brett climbed into the back and opened the door just a bit. This allowed him to have an unobstructed view of the layout. It also allowed Brett to be able to poke his long-range weapon out the door, just as a precaution. "Eagle has landed," Brett said into the radio. "Correction, 5 buildings. One larger one stationed in the middle with 4 surrounding it" he added. "Copy, any people" Brown radioed back. "I don't see any people but there are a few lights and 3 cars," He said. "What kind of cars?" Debrow asked. "2 SUVs and a compact" Brett relayed back. That means there could be up to 18 people at the base. Brett needs to make larger groups since his original plan would not allow them to have the upper hand.
"Looks to be 6-foot fences with gates on the north and south," he said to his second and third in command. "Any breaks in the fences?" They asked. Brett followed the fence around the compound. "Small break in the east and near the gate to the north. The one to the north is near a large light" Brett replied. He knew his guys were writing all of this down.
Brett felt the chopper rock to the left then the right before settling out. "Phillip, what the hell?" Brett asked, clinging to the side of the door. "We have company," the pilot said. "Retreat, retreat now" Brett commanded. Shots started echoing around, Brett instantly missed the silence. "Mayday, mayday taking shots" Brett yelled into the radio before throwing it next to him. He steadied the rifle and took aim with his scope. He could see at least 3 men shooting up at the chopper with what looks like AR 15's. Brett was able to aim and take a shot. It flew through the air and hit one of the men right in the head. One down. Brett took aim again. Just as he was going to shoot, a bullet ricocheted off the side of the chopper. It startled Brett for a second but he was able to regroup himself and take another shot. It ripped through another man's chest. Two down. The last man was able to get off a few rounds but they never even made it close to Brett. Taking aim once again, Brett watched through his scope as the last man went down because of his bullet. Last one down.
Brett finally let out the breath he was holding.
"Phillip, get us the fuck out of here" Brett yelled. "Yes sir" the pilot yelled back as he turned the chopper. Brett grabbed the radio, "Brett, answer us!" Brown yelled. Brown and Debrow probably said things earlier but Brett was a bit preoccupied. "3 dead, heading back now" Brett replied. "Damn it, want us to prep the unit?" Brown asked. "Yes, we are leaving once I get back" Brett radioed back. Shots were still echoing in the thin air. Phillip was trying to keep the chopper steady but was also trying to fly in a nonuniform line; thus making a harder target to hit.
Brett slammed the door shut and sat against it. He told General Kennedy this was a bad idea. Now his men are going up against these men knowingly. Their element of surprise shattered.
"Okay sir, I think we are good," Phillip said, evening out the chopper. "Nice flying," Brett said, "nice shooting" Phillip replied. Phillip squinted his eyes, something was on the ground that he swore was not there earlier. "Brett," He said. Brett peered over the center console, "What is that?" Brett asked. "I have no idea?" Phillip replied. A flash of light came from the object and an eerie silence followed. Silence like that is something you do not want to hear, it is scarier than gunshots.
After a second Brett and Phillip, both saw it. "Fuck" Brett yelled out. An FN-9 or air defense missile came rocketing through the air. Phillip steered the helicopter to the side but it was no use. The missile ripped through the backside of the helicopter. The entire tail rotor came off and crashed to the ground in a fiery cascade. "We are going down," Phillip yelled. Brett managed to grab the radio, "Mayday maybe, chopper hit. We are going down" Brett yelled. He needed to get that message through, it was their only chance to get help. Brett tucked his head into his knees and clutched his gun. The helicopter was falling and falling fast. "What are your coordinates?" Brown yelled over the radio. Brett couldn't reach it and just hoped they could find them.
The ground came closer and closer. The last thing Brett thought of was what he wanted for his life with Santana. The family and home he wanted to share with her. Was he ever going to get that?
The helicopter hit the ground hard and everything went black.
