Sofia2017 planning asked about this song from Mary-Kate and Ashley, so enjoy your request! As a special Mother's Day surprise from Elena and Gabby, James has been asked to play a song for Nell, Bianca, and Florence. James soon gets a surprise of his own when Miranda comes in to hear him as well. As she listens to Elena and Gabby singing the song, Miranda remembers Sofia singing this when she was little, and as the saying goes, everyone loves a variation on a classic! Mary-Kate and Ashley's music is not mine.
James was grinning as he and Bobby Lee led Nell, Bianca, and Florence into the sitting room. They'd been helping Elena and Gabby prepare for a special Mother's Day surprise for the last week, and now they said they were ready to sing at last.
"I wonder what they're going to do," Florence said as Bobby Lee offered her a chair, and she accepted a small bouquet of flowers from him.
"Well, since I see James with him, I'm guessing it's something music related," Nell grinned as James helped her and Ricky into a chair and gave her another small bouquet of flowers.
"Oh, Helen Genevieve, whatever they have planned, we all know it's going to be wonderful," Bianca smiled as she was given another bouquet of flowers. "And you know that Prince James loves helping the girls with their music!"
"Yeah, I loved helping them with their graduation song," James whispered sarcastically to Bobby Lee. "Running to my room every time they were done practicing so I could play something else and get it out of my head!"
"I hear that, James," Bobby Lee whispered back, "But you really did do a great job when you accompanied them at their preschool graduation. And of course, Roland and I helped cheer you up when we had that guy time sing-along! And maybe later, we'll sing something in your room when we're alone so we can get this song out of our heads!"
"What are you two whispering about?" Nell smirked.
"Nothing, Nell!" James smiled innocently.
"Nothing, Helen!" Bobby Lee smiled.
"You know that 'nothing' almost always means 'something', Robert," Florence chuckled. "You and Prince James always did that when the two of you were younger and planning something mischievous!"
"James and Daddy silly!" Elena giggled as she and Gabby came into the sitting room with Madeline and Sabrina.
"And if you teach that to my sisters, Elena, Gabby, or Ricky…" Nell started.
"Helen, my sweet, caring, loving, beautiful, understanding wife, I'd never do anything like that!" Bobby Lee smiled innocently as he kissed her hand. As he broke away from her, he gave James a discreet wink to thank him for teaching him that phrase, which was similar to what he always said to Amber when she tried to accuse him of something.
"Note to self, get James later for teaching Robert that," Nell muttered, having seen James smile at Bobby Lee.
"I know we missed part of what you were saying, but I'm guessing it was funny, and we'll help you get James too!" Madeline whispered in agreement, hearing Nell giggle as they sat next to her.
Sabrina nodded beside her. "That's right, now I think he'd better play your song before you're all laughing too hard to hear Elena and Gabby!"
"That's right, and that's my girls," Nell chuckled, squeezing her sister's hands as Elena and Gabby went to the front.
As they watched everybody calm down, Elena and Gabby smiled at James and Bobby Lee. They knew they were being silly about something, but now was the time to be serious.
Elena smiled when she saw Kitty and Pinky in one of the chairs. She had been nervous about singing in front of a crowd, but James had helped her by letting her and Gabby sing in front of their kitties, as well as his own plush writing helpers, and even Bobby Lee's stuffed Jaquin Sergeant. She knew she always got better when she sang in each music program at school, but she was always a little nervous unless she had something to focus on. She smiled when she saw Gabby's Jaquin Lily, and even Ricky was holding his black and gray Jaquin Zoomer. She also focused on the kitties until she didn't feel like giggling anymore.
At the same time, Miranda slipped into an empty chair. She had heard that the girls were going to sing a special song for Mother's Day, and she was curious about hearing it too.
"Rinda! You came!" Gabby smiled, going over and giving her another small bouquet. "That's from James! He'd give it to you himself, but he's going to play Elena's and my song now!"
"Thank you, Gabby, and thank you too, James," Miranda smiled. "I wouldn't miss this for anything! But go back up with Elena. I didn't mean to interrupt you!"
When Gabby was back at the front and James started playing the song, Elena took a deep breath, focused on Kitty and Pinky, and sang, Moms are special people
They hug you all the time
They help you do a lot of things
You might be scared to try
Gabby joined her, They take us to the playground
The movies and the zoo
Mom, we're really lucky
Cause we've got you
"This is so sweet; I think I'm going to cry," Florence whispered, but she smiled a little as Bobby Lee squeezed her hand.
"This might help you, Florence," Miranda whispered as she slipped her a handkerchief. "I remember when Sofia sang this when she was little during a Mother's Day performance too!"
Gabby smiled as she started her verse, When we get in trouble
As little angels can
We know we're gonna get that look
From our biggest fan
She lets us know we messed up
And sometimes she gets mad
But even then, she's still the best mom
Two kids ever had
"That's my girls," Nell smiled.
"That's our girls," Bobby Lee smiled beside her.
"That's right, and this was such a nice surprise," Nell smiled.
At the same time, Elena joined Gabby as they sang together, Oh, Mother, we need you every day
We think we'll keep you
Oh, Mother, we love you
Even more than songs can say
"Right here," Miranda smiled as she wiped her eyes, "Sofia had that part as a solo, and I started crying as soon as her part was over…and I'm going to start again right now!"
"This is a very nice variation on a classic song," Bianca agreed. "The girls are doing a remarkable job. And Prince James is doing a wonderful job of accompanying them!"
Keeping her eyes on all the kitties in the audience so she wouldn't start crying herself when she saw the tears in her mommy's eyes, Elena took the next solo, You're funny and you're smart
You finish what you start
If we could, we'd elect you
President of the Mothers
Gabby squeezed her hand as she joined her, No matter where you go
We hope it always shows...
You're the very best Mom we know
Elena was able to calm down as she and Gabby finished the song together, Oh, Mother, we need you every day
We think we'll keep you
Oh, Mother, we love you
Even more than songs can say
You're the very best, specialest person in the world
"Thank you, girls!" Nell smiled as she, Florence, Bianca, and Miranda applauded, and Elena and Gabby took their bows.
"Happy Mother's Day to you too, Mom," James added as he hugged Miranda. "Sorry I didn't give you your flowers myself, but I asked Gabby to do that since I was getting the music ready."
"Don't worry, James, I knew the flowers were from you, and that was very sweet of you to play that song for the girls," Miranda smiled.
"Mommy, why are all of you sad?" Elena asked as she hugged Nell.
"They're happy tears, Love Bug," Nell smiled as she wiped her eyes. "We'll all be all right, and that song was so sweet!"
"I know what can cheer you up, Nell! Let's get James!" Madeline whispered.
"No, I heard that there's going to be some Mothers' Day refreshments in the dining hall," Nell chuckled. "And while it's true that he was being silly with Robert earlier, let's let James enjoy a last meal since he did such a great job playing the piano for the girls, then we'll get him!"
"Okay!" Madeline agreed as they went to the dining hall.
