Gainshipping (Ryota Kajiki/Yami no Yugi)

. . .

He didn't belong to the sea. That much was clear.

Ryota could always tell, at a glance. There was something about the air around a person, something about the way their eyes glinted, something about the way they held themselves. There was something dry. Arid. Something that he could never understand about them.

And it made no sense to him, this boy not belonging to the sea. When he had first met him, he had thought—yes. This was one that understood; this was someone who had spent his life at the ocean side. He was Japanese; it made sense. Chatting with him had only confirmed this, learning that he had lived in a harbor town. He was not the same kind of ocean soul as Ryota, but he was one all the same. He was a soul that had seen and experienced the sea.

At least, that was what Ryota had thought, until the duel had begun and his eyes had seemed to flicker from violet to red and his soul suddenly turned to dry air and arid heat. The opposite of the ocean soul that Ryota had met before. The opposite of him.

The other face of this boy didn't belong to the sea. If he belonged anywhere, he belonged to the desert. To the heat and dryness and the ripple of mirage that steamed up from the sandy ground. He belonged to a place that had never known water.

Ryota could always tell when people didn't belong to the sea.

But what was strange about this boy...

...was that he didn't seem to realize that he didn't.

A/N: I...I'm not sure? Ryota is hard for me to write now, I'm just not immersed enough in DM anymore ;w; Next is Furyshipping (Yami no Marik x Jonouchi x Seto x Yami no Yugi).
