They live in shadows. The problem is, they're not the kind of shadows that other people can see. They're not the kind of shadows that can be talked out in a therapy room. They're not the kind of shadows that they can let anyone know exist...except for maybe each other.

He lives in the shadow of a dark smile that stabs spikes into his chest to bind them together—in the shadow of a scarred face that cackles and reminds him "you had the potential to become me."

He lives in the shadow of a twisted face that is both his and not his, a pulsing in his back that reminds him of the way it felt to be shoved out of your own body and imprisoned in the darkness, helpless to see what would unfold.

Sometimes, their hands reach out. Someone. Please. Understand. These shadows are too long, too dark. They need the help to step out of them. To find the light.

Sometimes, their hands find each other. Sometimes, their eyes meet, and they can see it—the pain of living under a shadow. Understanding.

Sometimes, in the end, that's all they need.
