Ettushipping (Jonouchi Katsuya/Kaiba Seto/Kujaku Mai)
. . .
"Why am I here, again?"
Mai's voice rose up from the middle of the the antiques somewhere.
"Because you need some sunlight, you vampire. Jou, come over here and look at this with me."
Jonouchi was more than grateful for an excuse to walk away from Kaiba's sour face, so he quickly walked around the table piled high with knick knacks to get to Mai. It was a sunny day for a rummage sale, at the very least. But Jonouchi wasn't sure why Kaiba was tagging along with them, either—he thought this was supposed to be a him and Mai thing.
Mai was busy frowning at a large blue vase, holding her hands out in front of her to measure it.
"Do you think this is too big for that plant we got?" she said. "It needs to be repotted."
"I dunno, looks fine to me," Jonouchi said. "Mai, really, though, why didwe have to bring the sourpuss with us?"
Mai rolled her eyes, kneeling down to look at the bottom of the vase so that she could check the price. Apparently it was a little too much because her nose wrinkled and she put it back, turning her eyes to the next pile of things.
"Because Mokuba asked me—practically beggedme—to get his dumbass of a brother out into the real world for just an hour," she said. "Yugi and Anzu were busy. We were already going out. Might as well drag him out with the rest of the dusty old knick knacks—he fits in."
"I heardthat, Kujaku," Seto said, rounding the corner with a scowl on his face. "That's rich coming from someone eight years older than me."
Mai casually flipped him off before picking up a clock.
"This would look nice on that shelf in our living room, wouldn't it, Jou?" Mai said. "Oh, hang on...it looks broken."
It was a pretty nice clock, but if it was broken, no point in getting it. Jonouchi was about to say as much, when Seto's eyes flickered, and he stepped past Jonouchi to pluck the clock out of Mai's hands. Mai looked like she was going to swear at him, but then both her and Jonouchi witnessed something very strange.
"Are your eyes...sparkling?" Jonouchi asked.
Kaiba jerked out of his study of the clock, and an actual faint blush came over his cheeks.
"No," he snapped. "I just wanted to look at it."
"They were, I saw them," Mai said. "You looked like a kid in a candy store for a minute—that seems almost wrong on your face."
"Shut the fuck up, Kujaku," Kaiba said, blushing even harder.
"You like clocks?" Jonouchi said. "That's right, didn't I walk in on ya fiddling with a pocketwatch on your desk instead of your paperwork once?"
"What? Really?" Mai said, her eyes widening and a smile rolling over her face. "I thought you were only into circuit boards!"
"Both of you, shut up," Kaiba said through his teeth, his face still red. He hadn't put the clock down, though. "It's not broken as bad as you think it is, you can buy the damn thing yourself."
"No, no, you keep it," Mai said, looking like she was on the verge of laughter at his responses. "I'm glad you got something out of this after all."
"I hate both of you," Kaiba said.
"Aw, we love ya too, ya rich bastard," Jonouchi teased, and Kaiba just glared at him.
But damn, seeing Kaiba blush like that was actually pretty hilarious—worth it in the end, after all.
