AN: Next chapter will deal with current day Ren but I wanted to show some childhood stuff here. Also there will be a number of differences between Kuon/Ren here and Kuon/Ren canon just because of how serious his status is.
Chapter Two
Kuu looked at the soup pot as he got three bowls out to serve dinner. He turned to Julie with a smile. Four years ago his son had been born and wanting to know the truth and so he could get background information on Kuon's special circumstances, he had had a paternity test performed. He was Kuon's father. Neither he nor Julie had fairy blood as far as they could tell so they didn't quite understand their son but they had gone through fantasy books, legends, and learned a lot about fairies. They also had been able to make sure that Kuon could join in with other children by binding his wings. He looked like a regular child without them and without the painful emotions where he would turn into a horse's estranged relative.
Kuu heard a loud scream and turned to Julie before turning off the stove. Kuon didn't like to show his pain and they often encouraged him to talk with them but he said he didn't want to burden them. It was true that he hadn't been born human but that didn't mean his parents didn't still love him. Kuu bolted up the stairs followed by Julie.
Kuu opened the door and he froze as he saw Kuon on the floor. He looked to be in pain and had curled himself up in a ball, he was grabbing to his arm. Kuu dropped onto the floor beside his son and his eyes widened as he saw a crack in his wings. He pulled the four year old into his lap, careful of his extra appendages. "Kuon, son, can you look at me? It hurts, right?" he asked, "You hurt?"
Kuon kept his eyes and shook his head. Another lie to keep from burdening them. Kuu kept Kuon on his knees and then looked at the laceration on one of his wings. There was a deep cut there and it seemed to be splintering on the bottom half of his wing. Gold fluid had started to come out as well, this was very similar to blood.
"We need to get him to Lara," Kuu told Julie who nodded. Lara was a skilled lepidopterist that they knew. A lepidopterist was someone who studied or collected butterflies and moths and although Kuon's wings had healed before in a way similar to a human breaking a bone, doctors felt uncomfortable treating them because they were so similar to butterfly wings.
"I'm fine," the four year old argued, he was obviously not fine. He cried onto Kuu's legs. "I don't wanna go," he told them and Kuu gently let his finger run over his wing. He heard Kuon scream in pain and start crying harder.
"That's it," Kuu said as he managed to get Kuon into one of his shirts which accommodated his wings as well as a jacket that gently pushed against them and hid them. However, Kuon looked even more in pain as it was pressed against his broken wing. "Daddy has you," he told the four-year-old. "It's okay. We're just going to see Doctor Lara and see what she recommends," he tried to comfort his son.
Despite being a little freaked out at Kuon's birth, Kuu adored him because he was his son. He attempted to calm Kuon down before he changed into the Pegasus and they would have to go to the animal doctor they knew. Kuu grabbed Kuon's teddy bear and handed it to him.
"Do you have him?" Julie asked nervously, "His wing," she said hating that she didn't know what to do.
"Lara will be able to help Kuon. I think we should contact her now," Kuu said as he brought their son to the car. He put Kuon in the seat before squatting down. "I know it hurts but can you try to be your strongest self?" he asked. He kissed Kuon's forehead lovingly, "You're going to be okay. You're with Daddy, you are going to be okay."

Kuon could feel the camera flashes on him as he nervously backed up, stumbling a little on his hooves. He had had an emotional day and had wanted to run away from home and before he knew it, he was in a crowd and his nerves had forced for his transformation to occur. Nobody had seen him transform but a baby Pegasus was drawing a lot of attention.
He could hear people talking about him and his heart started pounding further as he saw animal control arrive. He brayed nervously, his eyes wide. He saw a man rush to him with a shock collar and a muzzle. This had happened a couple of times before but those times his parents helped him. His dad had actually had his Pegasus self registered to him so that he had ownership over the 'animal'.
Kuon felt the ran start to pour down, hitting his nose and making his horse wings flutter. These wings were different from his fairy wings. They were feathery and that meant that the rain dampened them, it didn't slide off. He heard the loud noises, the head of animal control on his radio and then he felt it, that shock as they put a tranquilizer into his leg. The nine-year-old panicked. The crowds, the people wanting to take him in as an animal, the feeling that running away from home was a bad thing. This wasn't what a kid should feel.
Kuon felt one of the men come over and grab him by the neck and he stumbled forwards. He shouldn't have run away or he should have been smarter about doing so. He was forced forwards a couple of steps until somebody grabbed him from behind. He turned his head to see his father's panicked but furious face.
"This is mine," he said as he got out the documents proving he owned the rare animal. The government worker took the document and then looked at Kuu who wasn't wearing a coat and had actually put on two different sneakers. The man was getting soaked but Kuu pulled Kuon into his lap, wrapping his arms around him protectively.
"Hey," he whispered to Kuon as he tried to check his face for any injuries, he started to check his legs and his hooves. He was still a baby Pegasus, the same size as a young foal. "I hope you're okay," he said as he pressed his forehead against Kuon's and whispered, "You scared me. Please don't run away again." Kuu lifted his head and looked into the stunning emerald eyes of his son.
"It checks out," the man said. "Mr. Hizuri," he coughed since Kuu was still a well-known and established actor despite him taking more time off since his son was born. "You are required to get identification on the animal. A collar would be ideal, a strong one."
"Yes," Kuu nodded though he wasn't going to put a collar on Kuon. He would just have to help his son control the fear that led to this. "I'll do that." Kuu managed to get himself in the position to lift the Pegasus, he held him in his arms lovingly and brought him to the car. He knew people were watching him but he set him in the back, putting a specially designed seatbelt over him for if this ever happened again in public. Kuu gently pet Kuon's head and crouched down beside the car. "We'll talk at home, okay?" he asked only to get a nod in response.
Kuu got in the driver's seat and started to pull away. He drove them back home and halfway through the drive, he heard a shifting in the back seat and saw Kuon with his wings exposed. He was sobbing extremely painfully and Kuu's expression softened. As he got to a traffic light, he reached a hand out to squeeze one of Kuon's. "It's okay." He told him, "It's going to be okay."
Kuon nodded and Kuu only took his hand back to drive them safely home. He looked out at the street in front of him. He and Julie had actually done some investigation and although they had never heard of any other fairies, there were other people who had been born as mythical creatures. What was worse though were that for many, the parents considered them a freak and even if they weren't thrown out of the house or disowned, there was a very strained way of loving them. Kuu didn't want Kuon to have felt any of that. Yes, Kuon was harder to take care of health wise than if he had been born human but he was still their precious and treasured boy, they still love him from the bottom of their hearts.

Kuon sat by the large lake in the area of Kyoto where his father had taken him. It was very recently that they had learned that through the power of stones and crystals, Kuon could control some of his fairy magic but there was a problem, there were only a limited number of these tools which he could use. Kuon grabbed tight to one of the stones as he heard the sound of footsteps. He didn't have the bondage that his parents told him would hide his wings, he didn't know where he had put it and someone would most likely be able to see his wings.
He was stupid for dropping it somewhere but there hadn't seemed to be anyone else in the area. His father said that because it was a family-owned woods it was private property where he could play but he hadn't expected for someone else to come here. Taking a deep breath in, Kuon turned into his Pegasus form and started to back away and into the bushes.
He saw a young girl come to the area he was and tried to remain incredibly still. He didn't want for her to yell and bring other people to where he was. He didn't want to have the community hunting for him. He didn't want to cause problems for his father at work. He took another deep breath in and saw the girl come to him.
"Hi," she said in a friendly manner. She sniffed although it was obvious that she had been crying earlier. She reached out a nervous hand and Kuon moved forwards, she didn't look like she would cause anyone any harm. He saw her smile excitedly as he approached her and she gently put her hand upon the top of his head. She looked around to Kuon's shoes which he had taken off and she looked at him again. "Are you a fairy?" she asked and Kuon found himself knocked back a little.
It wasn't, are you a Pegasus or a Unicorn with no horn? It was most definitely, are you a fairy?
Kuon accidentally dropped one of the stones and in his panic appeared in his fairy form. He looked at her, knowing that his wings were spread out behind him. He tried to smile but there was a sense of fear behind it. His parents had always told him never to show his wings. They had told him how people would be scared or they'd be jealous because he was a fairy. Now this girl had seen him.
The girl dropped down into a curtsey, "Hello, Mr. Fairy, I'm Kyoko, what is your name?"
"Hello, Kyoko," Kuon said as he watched her. She wasn't reacting to him with fear or confusion, she was just watching him. "I'm Kuon."

As to the question, yes. Fairies in the old time were able to transform themselves into Pegasus in order to hide from others so it's something he'll be able to control when Ren but has always had 😊
