AN; If anyone is interested, I imagine Kuon's fairy wings being a little like Cornelius's in Thumbelina just for visual help.

Chapter Three

Kuu looked at the baby in the crib that they had for him at home. He had been looking forward to the birth of his first child, his son, for such a long time. Now that he was here, Kuu was devastated. He still knew that he would always love Kuon but life would be difficult for him in his situation. They hadn't even been able to put him in the nursery with the other newborns because he feared that they would euthanize him or worse.

Kuu gently reached out to touch his son's head and saw his son's eyelids flicker a little. He allowed a few tears to drop down, his eyes getting misty. Kuon didn't know that he was different from everyone else. He didn't even know what the world was or color or letters or anything. He was just two days old. Hopefully he knew that Kuu was his father and Julie was his mother or whatever the most simplified form of that was to a newborn. Hopefully he understood that he was safe and loved and they would both do anything in their powers to protect him.

"Kuu, honey?" Julie asked as she looked at him and saw him crying. She wanted to cry too. They had told her that he was a monster, that he didn't belong on this earth, that he should be killed and they should try again for another child who wasn't a freak.

Kuon didn't understand any of this. He didn't know that they had never known of anyone who had been born with wings before or turned into a mythical horse-cousin when frightened. He was innocent. He didn't look like he was the anti-Christ (could one tell if they were or not). He just…was special. He had something which no one else had but why should that mean he should be killed.

Julie watched as Kuu very gently pulled Kuon into his arms, holding him as if nothing was strange with his body, apart from he had gently placed a hand underneath the tiny wings to protect them. "Kuu. Don't pretend to not be upset. If you don't want to be his father then -"

Kuu looked at her absolutely horrified, he pulled Kuon towards him even closer. "Don't say that I don't want to be his father. He's our son, Juli." Kuu brought Kuon's body to his shoulder so he could gently bounce the tiny boy. "I'm worried for him. The world won't accept him like we do. We do, don't we?" he asked her and Julie nodded. Their son hadn't done anything wrong but it was possible that they were on their own here. Would there even be a doctor willing to touch him. He needed as much medical attention as anyone else but the world often rejected people who were different from themselves.

As he approached them, Ren saw this girl drop down with gloom surrounding her. He paused not knowing what to do about this. He knew that most people were drawn to the shining light of his celebrity but there were some people who had powers that even he didn't understand. A lot of them didn't understand these powers and were put off when he approached due to the fact he was actually considered a fairy and not a human – or would be if anyone knew the truth about him.

However, Sawara-san wouldn't know this. The girl's actions might be seen as erratic and he had to play off of that. Coming out as a fairy was not an option. Squandering the sacrifices of which his parents had made was not an option. He had to remain calm and trust in his acting abilities.

"Why is she so crushed by despair?" Sawara wondered.

Ren coughed a little. Because she's reacting to the abnormal presence of a fairy. Ren thought as he observed the situation. With a set up like this, it was best to act clueless. "Sawara-san, she wants to join our agency?" he asked and Sawara nodded, he didn't seem too struck by the girl's odd behavior.

"Yes, but…" Sawara-san said slowly and Ren continued to watch the girl before him. She started to come out of her despair, maybe becoming accepting of the aura he had around him which was much different than that which a human had but most weren't perceptive of that fact. "She doesn't know what she wants to do other than chase celebrities."

Ren hummed, "I see," he said starting to worry that she was one of those people who went hunting for extraterrestrial life. He had come into contact with a lot of people like that. He never knew what their powers were or even if they had any and felt uncomfortable around them. Maybe if this girl did belong to that group, this was his chance of making sure he would never have to see her ever again.

"I see," he nodded, "She doesn't seem to care that much about showbiz, but she wanted to become a celebrity?" he asked and Sawara nodded. Ren looked at her again. Was that the best coverup that she could think of. Chances were that she really was one of those fairy hunters. Maybe not even fairies specifically but she had sensed a strange aura and come to investigate. Hopefully others would just find her delusional.

He saw Sawara try and move her out of the building and managed to help, he had much more strength than a human but he didn't want to make that known. He definitely didn't want to draw any extra attention to himself.

Once the girl was seated outside, Ren turned around, wanting to shake the experience off of him. He remained quiet as he let Sawara-san vent to him. It was best not to add anything unnecessary to this conversation.

"In any case, usually you audition first to get into this business. For music people demo tapes or CDs, but coming to the agency first to ask to become a celebrity, how absurd. And she has nothing particular she wants to do," Ren looked back at the door, trying not to show either fear or interest in the situation but if she really had sensed something then she wouldn't give in so easily.

"She must have come here on a whim," Ren started, "She'll eventually give up and go home," he said before seeing his manager approach him and gave a nod to Sawara before he left to go to his job. Yes, it would be much better if he never ever saw her again. He bowed his head and continued walking towards his next job. He didn't like to be surrounded by people. The more people around, the more risk of someone finding out his secret there was. He knew that he would never really have a normal life, the type that other people strived for with a wife and kids. No woman would accept these things on his back, his magical abilities, his fear manifesting into an animal form. No. He was better off alone.

Still, a long time ago there had been someone who had accepted him. Someone who had treated him with kindness and had thought that his wings were spectacular. Rick had been understanding and supportive when he had found out and that was why Kuon was willing to expose himself to save Rick's life. He just wished that he could have said goodbye to his friend who refused to talk about his secret even after he was no longer in his life.

Rick was a good friend. He was worth it to Kuon to have been exposed, he just wished that it hadn't cost his parents so much.

"Hello, Kyoko," Kuon said as he watched her. He didn't know whether to run from her as he tried to with most people but she didn't look afraid. It was as if she understood him. She understood why he looked different, how he had transformed, and she was at peace with it. He hadn't ever expected anyone to just calmly accept that he was like this. "I'm Kuon."

"Corn?" she asked and tilted her head to the side, Kuon blinked in surprise but he was wondering whether her opinion on him would change if he were to correct her. People didn't like to be told they were wrong. He wanted to be accepted and if Kuon became Corn then so be it. "Is that your name, Corn?"

"Ye-yes," he nodded and she curtseyed to him. Kuon smiled, she was pretty cute, kind of like a younger sister that he had never had.

"It's a pleasure to meet you Prince Corn," she told him and Kuon nodded.

"I'm glad to meet you too, Kyoko," he said before Kyoko shook her head. Kuon looked at her confused. He knew that it was very rude of him to think this way but this girl was a true oddity to him. She seemed to live her life with beliefs that others didn't have. Did she really think that the world followed those rules of a fairytale world, a wonderland of sorts.

"It's Kyoko-san, Corn," she said and he opened his mouth to correct himself. Weren't honorifics used in Japan as a sense of equalizer, did she think that he was a lower being than himself because of his wings. His parents had often warned him that there might be some who felt that way out of fear of seeing something different. His parents though, they acted just like parents should with their child. They accepted him and he was grateful for that. "Only my future husband can call me without the san."

"Okay, okay," Kuon laughed, "My apologies Kyoko-san," he said and Kyoko nodded.

"Are those your wings?" Kyoko asked as she looked to the golden wings on his back that had shades of green and burnt sienna when the light caught them in certain angles. Still, the main color was as gold as his blond hair. "They're really beautiful," she said before grinning to him excitedly. "I love them."

"You do?" Kuon asked as he put his hand out to touch it gently. Apart from his mother, no one had described them as beautiful before. His dad said they gave him character which was his way of complimenting them…Kuon thought.

"Yeah, I wish that I had wings too," Kyoko grinned and Kuon looked at her nervously.

"You won't tell anyone, right? I don't want to lose my wings, apparently when I was a baby, the doctors wanted to cut them off. They didn't understand fairy wings," he said and Kyoko grinned excitedly.

"You were given to human parents?" she asked and Kuon nodded slowly, that was…sort of right. His parents were humans but he was also genetically linked to them. They were his biological parents but they also were humans. "I promise that I won't tell," Kyoko said with a confident smile. "I wouldn't want to hurt you, Prince Corn."

Kuon watched her nervously before smiling, "Thank you, Kyoko-san."

Ren smiled as he thought about that memory after leaving the meeting. It had only been about a week that he had spent with that girl, Kyoko, in that one summer but he would never forget it. Kyoko had played with him, talked with him, she had allowed him to help her, most of all she had treated him as if he were human. He had always been afraid to have friends but he hadn't even had to hide his defects from her, she accepted him despite them.

Ren passed by the window where he saw the girl from earlier. She looked stubborn as she sat there outside the building. He had to give her a lot of guts but this worried him more. She was just sitting there, staring at the entrance. Was she trying to figure him out? Did she have extremely strong ESP or something?

She made him feel uncomfortable but at the same time, he had felt a strong urge to speak with her. Maybe he was being a bit too defensive. If there were people out there who hated the idea that there were creatures like fairies existing among regular people then maybe there were people who wanted to help, to make a difference.

Yes, Ren knew that the only way that he had been able to be seen by a doctor until he was seven years old was that the doctor wanted to publish their research on him and his parents had hated that but knew that he needed to be seen for checkups and vaccinations like a regular child. Strangely enough, the doctor had committed suicide before any of the papers were published and none of the research of him and a few others was ever discovered.

Then he was able to meet some nice people who, although they weren't the most skilled, honestly wanted to help him with his 'deformity'. He had had experience with people who had been curious about fairies and excited to help him. Maybe this girl wasn't going to be one of those who wanted to lock him in a lab and test him and hurt him, maybe she was a good one.

Or maybe, and most likely, he was being paranoid and this girl had no idea about fairies. Yes, she was here to be a star but without motivation she would leave. It was always better when they left.
