Dripshipping (Kajiki Ryota/Mazaki Anzu)
. . .
"Eep!" she squeaked just before her head went under the water—had she just hit someone?
Anzu struggled upwards towards the surface of the water, trying not to flail but feeling as though all of a sudden the water was choking her lungs and daring her to breathe in the lake water. She had—she totally had! She felt her legs hit a body when she jumped off the dock! Oh god, oh god, oh god—
A tumble of horrifying images flew through her brain, each one more terrifying than the last: she had hit a diving swimmer and paralyzed them and they were drowning, or there was a dead body in the water underneath her, or there was a monster in the water and it was going to drown her—
She let out a scream of bubbles as she felt a thick arm wrap around her waist, but then her head was punching back above the water and she spluttered. It was in her eyes, and she couldn't see—had she inhaled any water?
"Hey, it's okay, you're all right—I'm okay too, just calm down, okay? I'm gonna get you to the shore."
She couldn't quite see yet, but she tried to let herself relax as whoever had saved her pulled her quickly through the water. She could hear his arm cutting through the waves, and then her feet found silty ground again and she gasped as he dragged her up to the edge of the water. His hand rested against her back for support while she coughed up the last of the water in her lungs, hugging her stomach.
"Oh god," she mumbled. "Did I—did I jump on someone?"
"Yeah, a little," he said, sounding apologetic with a nervous little laugh. "It's okay, though, it was my fault. I shouldn't have been under the water right by the dock; you can't see through the water very well."
Anzu finally managed to blink her eyes clear, and she squinted at her victim slash rescuer. Oh, wait...didn't she know him...?
"Are you okay?" she asked, waving her hand vaguely through the air towards him. She still hadn't gotten her limbs back under control quite yet.
The tan boy laughed, making his slick, spiky hair bounce and scatter water droplets.
"I've been hit way worse," he said. "I got bit by a shark once, you know—and like I said, this was entirely my fault!"
Anzu remembered all at once where she remembered him for.
"K-Kajiki-san...?" she said, squinting.
The boy blinked once, his smile falling with surprise. Then he grinned widely, flashing his teeth.
"Have we met before? Or are you one of my fans?"
Anzu almost laughed, but she felt like that was probably in poor taste, since he hadsaved her, and she hadlanded on him.
"N-no, we've met before—I'm Mazaki Anzu, I was with Yugi when he dueled you at Duelist Kingdom."
"Oh!" Kajiki's eyes lit up with recognition. "I'm sorry, I didn't recognize you at first!"
Anzu noted with just a little bit of annoyance how his eyes briefly darted down towards her swimsuit, but she let it go.
"I'm really sorry for landing on you," she said. "Thanks for pulling me out of there."
"Like I said, it was my fault for being in the way," Kajiki said. "And what a coincidence that we would bump into each other all the way out here! How are you feeling? Dizzy at all?"
"Uh...a little," she admitted.
"You sit here and collect yourself then," he said, hopping to his feet. "I'll get you something to drink from the stand over there!"
"O-Oh, no, that's not necessary, really, thank you but—"
"It's an apology for being in your way," Kajiki insisted. "I'll be right back!"
Anzu wasn't able to stop him, so she just watched him run off across the beach. She smiled wryly as she cupped her aching head in one hand. Well, at least he was friendly about all of this...but she hadn't really intended for this trip to turn into a date...
