Dreamshipping (Jonouchi Katsuya/Kujaku Mai/Mutou Yugi)
. . .
Yugi was pretty suresomeone here was a third wheel, but he wasn't sure if he could figure out which one of them.
On one hand, this trip to the game shop downtown had been something that he and Jonouchi had planned for a while. On the other hand, running into Mai hadn't been unwelcome at all—and Yugi wasn't quite certain if maybe he should be slipping away?
"Ugh, Mai, I said I was gonna pay for your lunch," Jonouchi said, sounding miffed. "I got my paycheck the other day—tell 'er, Yuge."
"O-oh, right," Yugi said.
"Oh please, I can't ask you to pay for me on the part-time wages you're getting," Mai said, rolling her eyes. "It's fine, Jou, besides, I'm the one that crashed you guy's outing. Right, Yugi?"
"Um, I guess?"
Mai and Jonouchi glared briefly at each other, and Yugi just slid a little farther down in his seat, uncertain if he should be laughing or crying.
At least the coffee shop was nice and quiet, so there wasn't anyone that they could be bothering with Mai and Jonouchi's very flirty bickering. Yugi wondered if either of them even noticed how blatantly they were flirting, he wondered if Jonouchi noticed the way that he kept coming up with excuses to touch Mai's hand on the table or the way that Mai kept pretending to fix Jonouchi's cowlick. It was actually getting a little awkward, and Yugi was starting to think hewas probably the third wheel her.
"Oh!" he said suddenly, sitting up in his seat. "I have an idea! Let's have a duel to see who has to pay for lunch!"
"What? Right here?" Jonouchi said.
"Sure! We can do it right here on the table, there's enough space for a three-way duel," Yugi said. "If Mai wins, she'll pay for her own food, but if Jonouchi wins, he'll pay for it."
Mai and Jonouchi glanced at each other briefly.
"That sounds...fair," Mai said.
"Yeah," said Jonouchi. Then he blinked. "Hey, wait...what if you win, Yuge?"
Yugi was already pulling out his deck and shuffling it, just glad to have an excuse to play a game. Oh...he hadn't thought about that. He tilted his head briefly while shuffling.
"Hmm...if I win, I'll pay for lunch, and you two can use the money you saved to go on a date," he said.
"W-hat?" Jonouchi spluttered. Mai opened her mouth but no sound came out, her cheeks going red.
You're welcome, Jonouchi-kun, Yugi said. And you too, Mai-san.
